Of the many speeches we heard last night, the one that moved me the most was the one given by Mayor Mia Love of Utah. Christie did what was supposed to do and explained about hard choices and financial restraint. Ann Romney humanized her husband as was her role and Artur Davis, Nikki Haley and Ted Cruz were highly effective.

Media Sees Race In Every Corner of RNC
Sphere: Related ContentI just have no idea why we try to hide it anymore my fellow wingnuts. I mean, the jig is up (racist!) and it's as clear as black (racist!) and white. We are racists to the extreme. Oh no, we are too damn smart to do it overtly, we do it covertly so no one can figure it out. Or so we thought!
The geniuses at MSNBC seem to be on to us, especially Lawrence O'Donnell. No, we can't outsmart that guy, he's really on to every little attempt we make at a racial jibe. Check out what Sherlock O'Donnell figured out along with his counterpart Mr. Bashir:
MARTIN BASHIR: We have seen an early draft of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s forthcoming oration. Can I quote something from you? “For four years, Barack Obama has been running from the nation’s problems, he hasn’t been working to earn re-election. He has been working to earn a spot on the PGA Tour.” How about that?
LAWRENCE O’DONNELL: Well, we know exactly what he’s trying to do there. He is trying to align to Tiger Woods and surely, the — lifestyle of Tiger Woods with Barack Obama. Obviously, nothing could be further from the truth. They find every way they possibly can to –
BASHIR: Lawrence — don’t you think — don’t you think that what he’s really trying to do is to suggest that the president is not paying attention to the central issues that come with the responsibility he has? Is he really – Mitch McConnell really making a connection with Tiger Woods who, of course, has become infamous for chasing various cocktail waitresses around Las Vegas and so on?
O’DONNELL: Martin, there are many, many, many rhetorical choices you can make at any point in any speech to make whatever point up want to make. If he wanted to make the point that you just suggested and I think he does want to make that point, they had a menu of a minimum of ten different kinds of images that they could have raised. And I promise you, the speech writers went through, rejecting three or four before they land order that one. That’s the one they want for a very deliberate reason. That — there’s – these people reach for every single possible racial double entendre they can find in every one of these speeches.
BASHIR: You really believe that about Mitch McConnell?
O’DONNELL: I know these people are insensitive. I know the speechwriters are insensitive. I know the way they work. They do not have the same sensitivity level that other speechwriters do. But when you get to the Tiger Woods reference, there were people in the speech writing room, I know this, without a shadow of a doubt, who said wait a minute, do we really want to go there? Do we really want to go to Tiger Woods and the vote in the room was yes, we do. Mitch McConnell agreed to do it.
BASHIR: Wow. Things are getting lower and lower by the day.You see how that works, one liberal asshole looks with his special racism-spotting glasses and sees the minority leader of the Senate comparing Obama to another black man (or in Tiger's case: Cablinasian) so it was super surely, most-definitely racist! Plus, said Senator is from Kentucky and we all know how racist they are down there, right?
Seriously, can anyone look at the discussion above and actually believe that it aired on a national news channel? Granted, about 3 people watch at any given moment but it is solely owned by NBC now and you'd think that they would have some professional integrity, right? I mean, NBC, the peacock. You'd be wrong however because the lefties over at MSNBC decided to talk over all the minority speakers at the convention. Mia Love, Artur Davis, Ted Cruz, why is MSNBC so racist that will not allow black people on their network?
But it doesn't stop at NBC, there are racist finders everywhere if one just has the special Lawrence O'Donnell dog-whistle hearing aid and race glasses. How about this non-racial racist incident.
Making up racist incident out of whole cloth is fun to report on but reporting on actual racist incidents is really not as good.
Damn this is going to be a really long election and one can only hope that people start focusing on the facts and can pick through this garbage the media keeps throwing out there to keep the coverage about anything but Obama's record.
More here.

McCain Rolls
Sphere: Related ContentJohn McCain is not a great public speaker, it's not his forte and he doesn't seem all that comfortable doing it. That said, he did what he had to last night to get his point across to the American people.
Imagine having to take the stage last night with the image and voice of Sarah Palin still in the minds of people all over the country. Palinmania is sweeping the nation and McCain risked sounding anti-climactic on the closing night of a convention that started sow due to Hurricane Gustav but picked up and peaked on Wednesday when the Governor knocked 'em dead at the convention and was heard by 40-million of her closest friends (and no doubt extremely worried enemies) .
Now McCain can get back to his comfort zone, the town hall meeting where he can ad-lib and show his common touch. Interestingly, that is exactly the opposite of Barrack Obama who thrives on the spectacle-type affair and is a mess of "ers" and "ahs" when speaking off the cuff.
The pressure is still on Palin now that the convention is over and the hard core campaigning commences. How is she on the stump, day to day? We'll find out now.
Exit question: do you think the AP found the single worst picture they could from last night to run?

Palin Wowed Them
Sphere: Related ContentExcellent speech. I can't say more than I said in the previous post.
Did she even stutter once?
I'm guessing Conservatives and Republicans are in thrall while libs and Dems are cursing about now. I've actually turned on MSNBC to see the smirk on Olbermann's face.
McCain looks like a genius.
Short summery: She friggin' nailed it.
Long summary to come tomorrow sometime.
I've never been prouder to be a Republican than this moment with the exception of when GWB spoke at Ground Zero..
Olbermann is apoplectic and gave some stupid assed comment. Matthews didn't get a thrill up his leg it seems. I guess only Obama does that. Chris seems a bit scared as does Olby.
Olby calls some of her words "condescension." He's really worried.
David Gregory said "uh" more times before speaking than Palin did the last half-hour.
MSNBC is not giving her the props she so richly deserves.
Man, Olby is incredibly perplexed and was hoping that she would bomb...she didn't. David Gregory keeps comparing her to Biden but says "it's one level of the test."
Yeah, they're incredibly shook up by that speech that shook the core of the media.
Update: Yeah, she was incredibly effective.
Andrea Mitchell looks as if she just had a bug fly in her mouth. She's coming upon the realization that this woman is a nightmare for Obama.
Update: Rachel Maddow called it "sniping," That's the meme, folks.
Update: What the hell did Brian Williams just say? It was fluff to the extreme and he didn't let Brokaw even speak. Jeez, MSNBC is a liberal sewer now that Russert has died. Even Brokaw seems afraid to speak his mind but did give a tepid endorsement to her speech.

The Speech of Her Life
Sphere: Related ContentAnd probably the biggest speech since George W. Bush addressed the nation in the wake of 9/11.
She's going to do what VP candidates do, go for the jugular from what I'm hearing and reading. Most in this situation have a lot of time to dedicate to the speech but Palin has withered a storm in the last week that would make many slink away. I believe she's made of tougher stuff.
I believe this speech will make her career with her clear delivery and body language. She's a natural speaker, even more so than Obama in my opinion (that should garner some comments as the left and media [but I'm redundant] treat Obama as if he invented the concept of effective oratory).
Rudy's speaking now so we're close to the reckoning and Sarah Palin has a great many people pulling for her. He's thrashing Obama pretty good on The One's lack of experience.
Check back to this thread as we go along.
Update: Giuliani has a great line about using the term "Islamic terrorism" and the only people being offended being Islamic terrorists. He mentioned that "Islamic terrorism" wasn't even mentioned at the Dem convention. Now he's creaming Obama on the surge. The crowd seems ready for Rudy to be done and get on to the newest Conservative hero.
Nice smack at Obama flip-flopping though. "If I were Joe Biden, I'd V.P. thing in writing!" Sweet.
Update: Thank goodness Giuliani is on our side. Rudy now has them in a frenzy so I take back the being done thing I said above, jeez.
Update: Rudy's done and it's on. He killed the crowd.
Update: Let her speak, y'all. The crowd showed that they have her back big time.
Update: She's got the eye of the tiger, man. It's definitely on. The next 63 days will be evntful and a bloggers dream.
Update: Bristol's fiance is not looking comfortable. Give the dude credit for coming.
Update: Damn, she's smooth with the delivery. Again, better han Obama.
Update: "A small town mayor is like a community organizer, except you have actual responsibilities". Epic! She's going after Obama hard.
Update: I speak for a living and I would kill to have her delivery and cadence.
Update: Compare and contrast her speaking style with Hillary. It's not even a fair fight.
Update: Out of the mouths of babes. My 9-year old daughter just sat down and said "I like her" not having a clue who she is. I then had to get a moth out of her room (after a comedic chase) because it woke her up and school starts tomorrow.
Update: She's rockin' it folks. Juxtapose her and Biden and see who did better. It wasn't even close.

Palin Watch
Sphere: Related Content
It's day six and Sarah Palin is still the only story the media gives a damn about. Here's the lowdown from today:
Peggy Noonan isn't on board with the Sarah Palin pick evidently. It kind of kills the sentiments she put forth here, doesn't it.
Jim Treacher is back writing at his own blog and tearing it up.
Senator McCain is standing by his pick and he even had this moment where he met Bristol Palin's husband-to-be.
The highly irritating Dr. Laura jumps in the fray and slams McCain. Does anyone still listen to her annoying drivel?
Victor Davis Hanson comes up with a new word that will live on like "swiftboating" has.
Tonight's a most crucial night for Sarah Palin and I for one am pulling hard for her. Many on the left will criticize her for anything and everything regardless but they've managed to lower expectations dramatically so the pressure is reduced somewhat. It doesn't mater, those people will never vote for her and they're not the target anyway. Many others who have not heard her speak will hear her for the first time this evening and she is an eloquent speaker to be sure. She can win over some folks tonight and at the very least make others take notice.
Good luck, Governor.
Update: Credit where it's due. One liberal womens group stands up for Palin. They make it crystal clear they don't like her ideology but can't be called hypocrite neither.
Also, the media didn't report anything about John Edwards because it was in the National Enquirer--a tabloid. Let's see if they can bring themselves to ignore this unsourced garbage. I guarantee they'll use the Edwards wasn't running for anythinga nd Palin is line.

Lefty "Peace" Activists My Ass
Sphere: Related ContentThe anti-warriors, paroled felons and jobless losers who've been causing mayhem in St. Paul ain't all that peaceful and lovable:
What it found, according to an 18-page search warrant application and affidavit, led to weekend raids on two Minneapolis homes and a temporary St. Paul office for the self-described anarchist group.
According to the document, investigation learned:
The self-described anarchist group — whose main goal was to "crash" the Republican National Convention," according to its Web site — traveled to or communicated with affinity groups in 67 cities to recruit members and raise money.
Group members discussed the possibility of kidnapping delegates, blockading bridges, using liquid sprayers filled with urine or chemicals on police and throwing marbles to trip police and their horses.
At an "action camp" held from July 31 to Aug. 3 in Lake Geneva, Minn., one member talked of concealing inside giant puppets "materials" that could be used on the street. Others discussed the need for Molotov cocktails, paint, caltrops (devices used to puncture tires), bricks and lockboxes for protesters to lock themselves together.
Erik Oseland, one of the six group members arrested here, produced a video called "Video Map of the St. Paul Points of Interest." It included such major companies as Travelers Insurance and Qwest, hotels such as the Embassy Suites and the Crowne Plaza. Also included: the Pioneer Press building.
Nice group there. Kidnapping the delegates and throwing marbles are my favorites, I mean what is a little anarchy without hostages and euthanized horses, right?
Anyway, the police have had their hands full and it hasn't been easy for them. Let's hope none of the cops gets injured in the last two days. As for the protesters, a few cracked heads wouldn't even make me cringe as they seem to deserve it right about now.

Convention Notes
Sphere: Related ContentGov. Palin speaks tonight. It may have been said one or one million times that this is the speech of a lifetime whenever some pol has an important speech (like Obama's speech on race, which was an utter failure). This speech is truly a huge moment for Sarah Palin as an individual and the party as a whole. Many of the folks in this country will get to see her and hear her and I would imagine that when she appears on stage and isn't sporting horns, wings and a forked tail, some will be shocked. When she speaks and doesn't sound like Barbie they'll be surprised. When she delivers, they'll be on the bandwagon.
Former Senator Fred Thompson and Sen. Joe Lieberman kicked the convention into high gear last night. Lieberman was not Sen. Zell Miller but he was effective. Thompson defended Palin and spoke well of the man who is McCain. Let's hope that people actually tuned in and watched.
There didn't seem to be much action on the streets with the lefty street gangs waging violence--or maybe they just locked everybody up. That's probably a very pleasant cell to be in.
Not sure if this is good or bad but Pat Buchanan is raving about Palin.

Convention Notes
Sphere: Related ContentNot too much happening inside as the agenda was shortened due to Hurricane Gustav making landfall in Louisiana. The idiots protesters were out in force though.
Some nobody from Democracy Now!--a left wing group of zealots--was arrested and the leftosphere is in high dudgeon over the police state of St. Paul. She was released and whined of course. Perhaps if you all didn't vandalize private property, things would go smoother.
The left-wingers tossed sandbags from overpasses at buses carrying delegates from Minneapolis to St. Paul. A sandbag ways roughly fifteen to twenty pound and could kill someone if dropped from heights. That's not protesting, that's attempted murder.
And yes, these fine, upstanding men and women even went after kids. The Obama nation is in effect, hope (we make it to the arena alive) and change (your shirt because you just got hit by a urine bomb).
The convention continues today.

All Republicans are Racist: TNR
Sphere: Related ContentThis is nice:
All the reporters in Denver were predicting that the GOP convention promises to be boring. I'm not so sure. One reason: There's no way thousands of conservative Republicans are going to hew to a politically-correct message about Barack Obama. Especially with the media goading delegates and activists at every turn--much as they did Hillary's supporters in Denver--I'm guessing we'll have a racial-insensitivity flap every 90 minutes or so. You can almost write the "I found another racist delegate!" blog items right now. It's gospel on the Left that we are all closet racists who hide it well. I would imagine we'll see exactly zero cases of racial insensitivity and that will leave our intrepid little weasel reporter, Mikey, with nothing to do but make shit up.
The McCain campaign should prepare some kind of stock response to this sort of thing, almost like one of those out-of-office emails: "RACIST COMMENT AUTOREPLY: SENATOR MCCAIN DOES NOT CONDONE THAT SORT OF LANGUAGE."
You may see a few anarchists getting the shit kicked out of them by some patriotic Americans including bikers and vets, but racism? Uh, no unless racism applies to smacking around snot-nosed little punks charging rooms and drinks on daddy's Visa.
We've beat them in our selection of VP, we sucked the life out of any buzz Obama had yesterday evening and now they're going to break out the even bigger racism gun.
Good luck with that, dude.

Convention Notes--Final Donk Edition
Sphere: Related ContentObama's speech was soaring and exactly what you'd expect from a candidate accepting the nomination. It was good, not great, but good. In the eyes of Olbermann though, it was magnificent and should be treated as gospel. Anyone who disagrees is not capable of holding their job even if they are a respected reporter:
So Olbermann was outraged that the AP's Babington had written, in his analysis of the speech, just off the wire, that Obama had tried nothing new and that his speech was lacking in specifics. He read the first few paragraphs on the air, lamented that it would be printed in hundred of newspapers on Friday, and concluded, "It is analysis that strikes me as having born no resemblance to the speech you and I just watched. None whatsoever. And for it to be distributed by the lone national news organization in terms of wire copy to newspapers around the country and web sites is a remarkable failure of that news organization. They will brook no dissent from the mostly compliant media. Bonus: Prima donna Olby needs more protection, I'm guessing from his felow employees at MSNBC.
"Charles Babington, find a new line of work."
The GOP may delay their convention if Hurricane Gustav appears about to hit the Gulf Coast on Monday.
Jimmy Carter continues to be the least classy former president in this nations history. I guess his calling Obama a "black boy" will go unchallenged.
Kaus breaks it down without the breathless fawning we see from Olby. You know, kind of how a reporter should report the news. Kaus wasn't so impressed. The best line:
Why the slow, angsty movie-music at the end? I thought someone in the Politburo had died.
Here's to hoping they're too drunk to come up with any tax-sucking legislation.

Is America Now No Longer Racist?
Sphere: Related ContentDemocrats for years have said we should be more politically nuanced like European nations and stop being so racist and...well, American.
Now that we have nominated a Black man for Chief Executive--something no European nation has ever done--can we now agree that America is no longer racist?
Fat chance of that happening as identity politics are the mothers milk of the Democrats but at least now their claims will ring a lot less hollow than before.

A Chaotic Convention Closes
Sphere: Related ContentThe One is set to speak at the ill-conceived Barackopolis and spell out his vision for a better American future that includes oceans ebbing (although they haven't risen), mandatory socialized medicine (although every single previous model has failed), higher taxes on everyone (except the panhandlers and slackers without jobs) and a new standing for America in the world. All that money we waste on stupid things like the military can go toward excellent new entitlement programs and prop up the National Endowment for the Arts who've seen a rough time these last three years and have only been able to afford dropping the Virgin Mary in urine instead of paying for the more expensive Jesus on the cross doll.
I can't wait.
Anyway, Senator McCain is paying for ad time to congratulate Senator Obama in what has to be one of the more shrewder moves and then it will be over. The slime can be hosed into the sewers of Denver (and Golden) and the scum-sucking anarchists can go to wherever they stay while unemployed (my guess is San Francisco or Seattle). Here's to hoping they are too damn stupid (a likely possibility) to read a map that would lead them to St. Paul or that they get busted with large quantities of sinsemilla somewhere between Colorado and Minnesota.
On to the RNCC!

Sphere: Related ContentThe cops roughed up an ABC producer and crew for the unforgivable crime of filming fat cat Democrat elected officials and VIP's on a public sidewalk. In other words, they were arrested for doing exactly what the Constitution penners gave them the right to do. It's not been a great week for the Denver PD and the Democrats ain't looking too good either.
A man everyone hated four years ago is sent out as attack dog against Senator McCain. The Boston Brahman was friends with McCain before he was against him.
Supposed foreign policy genius Joe Biden makes a huge mistake during his speech. Battalions, brigades...what's the dif?
Most of the American public now believes that we are winning the War on Terror. To most right thinking folks, that means the war in Iraq as well. I haven't heard all that much about our victories at this convention, have you. That damn US military robbed the party of The One of his retreat rhetoric.
As of now, Obama has not gotten any significant bounce from this convention. Don't think the Donks aren't a bit nervous about that.

Democrat Party Unity?
Sphere: Related ContentI was under the impression that Bill Clinton was essentially persona non grata in the party now that The One is the standard bearer. If so, explain to me how he brought "unity" to the party by uttering one line:
The division and drama of the first two days of the convention seemed to disappear midevening as former President Bill Clinton told the crowd that Obama "is ready to be president of the United States," a declaration he has resisted making in the past.Hugs all around and free abortions to all who have a convention ticket stub, there's peace and harmony in the party of Jimmy Carter. Bubba is no longer a racist and now he can assume his position as the old sage of the party once again just as long as he doesn't say anything or talk to the press.
Clinton, who was greeted by a long ovation and chants of "Bill, Bill," said it was vital to elect Obama president because "the American dream is under siege at home, and America's leadership in the world has been weakened."
You have to love Slick Willy's line about the American dream and leadership, it's purely rhetoric meant for consumption by the gullible Democrat masses at the convention as judging by the ratings, no one but political junkie is watching anyway. Speaking in platitudes is always done well by the master.
I for one feel that our standing in the world is much better than at this time yesterday, we've now officially nominated a man of color for the presidency so we're in the good graces of all those nuanced European nations who've done the same like...er...uh...I'll get back to you on that.
Perhaps Bill can help bring about unity in the other ongoing liberal war before it leads to casualties, hurt feelings or Armageddon.

Hillary Delivers For Obama For What It's Worth
Sphere: Related ContentHillary Clinton delivered her speech calling for unity and backing Barack Obama last night at the Pepsi Center in Denver. She spoke about as passionately as one could when they've seen a decades-long goal evaporate before their eyes.
The goal was to rally her supporters and she may have just done that with some but overall, I'm not sure it had the intended effect. Hillaryites are pissed and for Barack Obama to snub their girl like he did was just too much for them to take. Not even vetting her for VP was the final slap and I don't think many of them will be going full-bore for Obama.
Some have called her "a good soldier," I for one will never equate a Clinton with those brave men and women in uniform but she was what could be called a team player. She did enough to support the party and that's about all anyone with a "D" behind their name could hope for.
Two exit questions: What was up with the orange pantsuit and will this piece of self-flagellation get Ron Fournier back in the good graces of the angry left?

Convention Notes--Monday Night
Sphere: Related Content
Police arrested some white supremacist's in an alleged plot to assassinate Barack Obama. Details are sketchy but a presser is scheduled for today to provide details.
Sen. Edward Kennedy and I agree on just about nothing. That said, it was nice to see the old liberal lion appear last night at the convention. He looked better than I had expected and spoke of a future of hope. Here's to hoping we see him at the next convention.
Obama just opened himself up to the William Ayers charges and he did it in his own ad. For those a little late to the game, Ayers was a leader of the Weather Underground who bombed the Pentagon and killed policemen. Obama sat with him on boards and went to him to gain favor when starting out in politics. This may be the latest, yet greatest political blunder in a campaign that has seen many. This may have opened him up to even more associations that are, shall we say, sordid?
The PUMA's aren't going away quietly.

Jimmy Carter Doesn't Get Peanuts From Dems
Sphere: Related ContentFour years ago, Zell Miller spoke at the GOP convention and roasted his party.:
Parts two and three are here and here.
Juxtapose that with the ridiculous sight of John Kerry saluting and uttering "reporting for duty".
Well, this year the Dems had a chance to have an elder Southern statesmen speak at their convention as well. The problem is that Jimmy Carter is no Zell Miller and the party sure as hell knows it:
DENVER — Former President Jimmy Carter will not speak to delegates at the Democratic convention but he will be on stage as a recorded presentation is played. But won't be speaking Ms. Wyeth because the Dems know that the guy is a moonbat. They fear what he would say because he is so far out of the mainstream as to be an embarrassment.
Officials at the Democratic convention initially declined to say whether Carter would speak or not, deferring to the published podium schedule, but a spokeswoman said that Democrats wanted to "acknowledge his tremendous efforts to help the [Katrina] hurricane recovery."
But later convention spokeswoman Natalie Wyeth said, "his speech to the delegates will go through that video package."
"He will be on the stage tonight," Wyeth noted.
Sorry Jimmah, you have joined everyone else under the bus.
