A Victory For the Constitution

Sphere: Related Content

Every so often we see a political earthquake that changes the landscape for years or even decades. We saw that last week in Colorado.

Angela Giron is not smiling anymore
Sitting Democratic State Senators John Morse and Angela Giron were recalled because of their activities with regard to gun control. Morse seems like he was an all-around a-hole who everyone hated and acted as if he was anointed his seat instead of being an elected representative of the people. According to C. W. Cooke he pretty much irritated everyone from the left, right and center. generally this is a quality that is not conducive to staying ungainfully employed by your state.

But Giron was a different story; she was elected in a district that voted for Obama over Romney by 20%--a blowout in any election. She made the mistake of acting as if her constituents views did not matter when they were not in line with her own. She did the same thing that liberals always do when they are trying to legislate on decisive issues such as abortion or in this case gun control; she shut their voices out...literally. Now on an issue such as drug laws or highway spending, this would have been forgotten quickly and nothing would have come of it. But Giron treated men and women who wanted to discuss her trampling of the US Constitution and wanted to be heard. It turns out, they were heard loud and clear by the voters.

A coalition was formed and some diligent folks got the signatures needed to force a recall election. Money poured in from gun control advocates such s Mayor Michael Bloomberg's misguided organization. The National Rifle Association assisted those on the side of freedom and rights and the fight was on. And it wasn't even close. Giron lost by close to 12%. This in a state that is notoriously liberal on rights such as gay marriage and legalizing weed. The classless Giron, as is to be expected when liberals fail, blamed something that has absolutely nothing to do with her getting ousted.

How monumental was this? this was supposed to be a testing ground for more stringent gun laws in other states that are split ideologically. This occurred in a state that suffered through a recent mass-shooting in a movie theater. This was a slam-dunk if ever there was one in the view of gun-grabbing leftists. Except it wasn't. The governor heard the people loud and clear on this and is living in fear (and denial) right now since the coalition has tasted blood and his head hanging in their proverbial den would be the next logical step.

There's a lesson here for those who run for office and win: don't ignore your constituents when they have a grievance and sure as hell don't mess with their rights. Rural Coloradans are itching to secede and the primary reason is the usurpation of their rights as Americans.

This is a huge victory for 2nd Amendment advocates and advocates of the Constitution in general. politicians who wish to impinge on these freedoms granted us by a power higher then them do so at their own peril. many states are jumping on this band wagon and we will see a revolution sooner rather than later if this continues.

The Unseriousness of Gun Control Advocates

Sphere: Related Content

The gun control debate is burning again as it does every few years or so. Like the abortion debate, both sides dig in and eventually it settles down with no real change but return to stasis.

This time things are different and the outcome now is not as certain as it has been in the past.

This topic has been beaten to death throughout the blogosphere and twitter world but one thing I haven't seen is a liberal stand up and tell us what will happen if they get their dream of a "gun free America". They tout statistics about places that have confiscated weapons like the UK and Australia but they never seem to compare that to what an America free of legal weapons would look like.

It's pretty easy to look at a place, right here in the good old USA that has tried to ban weapons and see what the effects have been: Rahm Emanuel's Chicago. Some intellectually challenged libs like to throw the Chicago card out but then not to seriously debate the topic but to use that final, desperate bit of ammo; the race card. It's funny that liberals have used the race card so much over the last 15 years that it's affect has been blunted to the point of boredom. It's akin to having a bag full of kick-ass fireworks from Ohio and lighting them off. You light all the big ones off first and hear oohs and aahs from everyone. But in the end, you look in the bag and you have nothing but a pack of twenty bottle rockets you got free when you bought the big stuff. You light it off and it whistles and pops but it's kind of anti-climactic.

Anyway, let's imagine the perfect liberal fantasy world where America is transformed into what they want, a place where guns are illegal, illegal aliens are legal and abortions are free. Barack Obama has managed to subvert the Constitution even more than he already has and has managed to confiscate every legal gun in America and ban their sale. His new effort is the much-heralded War on Guns, which is modeled after Nancy Reagan's War on Drugs. If you are caught with a gun, you receive a mandatory minimum of 5-years for each weapon and an additional 2 years for every magazine over five rounds. Will places like Chicago be safer?

Now let's take this further; imagine that weapons are illegally smuggled into the US through Mexico using existing drug tunnels and other distribution means. Imagine hundreds of thousands of weapons flowing north through Juarez and Tecate. Who will buy these weapons? The government has already confiscated the formerly legal weapons using names from lists the government accumulated in the years leading up to the gun laws.

What the hell would America look like then? When only criminal have weapons, they will prey on those who don't. The law would have about as much affect on crime and mass shootings then prohibition and the War on Drugs has had. If you want to see the end result, just look at Mexico or, closer to home Chicago. Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the nation and has seen a huge increase in violent crime caused by guns. Roughly 25% of those crimes are ever solved. Imagine if that were to spread out south east and west. America would soon look like the Australia portrayed in the Mad Max series.

Those very same people who are advocating for repeal of our constitutionally guaranteed right to bear arms would be the very same ones screaming for the government to "do something!!! The problem is that those who could do something will be unable to assist in stopping it.

Fast and Furious Update

Sphere: Related Content

I would say one of the main but many reasons I wanted Obama beaten was to finally see an investigation into the death of Border Patrol officer Brian Terry. Terry was killed by what is believed to be an AK 47 allowed to "walk" or be straw purchased in Arizona and then placed in the hands of drug cartels--all with the direct knowledge of ATF. He was ambushed during a drug raid.

Fast and Furious was designed to subvert the gun lobby and the Second Amendment. If the case could be made that guns from pro-gun states were being funneled into Mexico and fueling the cartel warfare, Obama would have the ammunition he needed to go after guns exactly like he is now in the wake of the Newtown shooting. It failed and the plan blew up in ATF's face.

Now how high would the decision have to be made to green light a plan like this? At least as high as the Attorney General who would have undoubtedly informed the president of some aspects of the plan to avoid embarrassment and questions from the media.

The story is starting to unravel, albeit very slowly:

Attorney General Eric Holder and his Department of Justice haveasked a federal court to indefinitely delay a lawsuit brought by watchdog group Judicial Watch. The lawsuit seeks the enforcement of open records requests relating to Operation Fast and Furious, as required by law.
Judicial Watch had filed, on June 22, 2012, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request seeking all documents relating to Operation Fast and Furious and “specifically [a]ll records subject to the claim of executive privilege invoked by President Barack Obama on or about June 20, 2012.”
The administration has refused to comply with Judicial Watch’s FOIA request, and in mid-September the group filed a lawsuit challenging Holder’s denial. That lawsuit remains ongoing but within the past week President Barack Obama’s administration filed what’s called a “motion to stay” the suit. Such a motion is something that if granted would delay the lawsuit indefinitely.
Now imagine your Brian Terry's family. Imagine your son, brother or nephew gave his life for his country in a battle against drugs on our southern border. Imagine the government who it appears has culpability just ignored the investigation into the case. When a cop, soldier, Marine, airman, sailor or agent decides to take the job, they know there are inherent risks. They also know that the unwritten code says that if you should die or get wounded, you will not be left behind and you will not be forgotten. The expectation is that anything that will help solve the case will be investigated and no lead omitted. In this case, the very men who blessed the plan are the very ones who are pissing on the grave of a man who gave his life for his country.

This story will not go away because some in the right wing media won't allow it to. While the MSM has always steered clear of asking Obama questions about this case, some very bright and diligent people in the new media are on the case.

Perhaps we'll get more answers about his death since a man now in custody from another case has admitted to being the one who murdered Terry.

American Woman Proves to Be Manlier Than Other Nations Men

Sphere: Related Content

You know what the definition of an Arab Islamist's worst nightmare is?

Her name is Kim Rhode:

A woman? Who is allowed to shoot? And can hit 99/100 skeet? Most "men" in Saudi or Iran couldn't hit 10 and the "men" in France probably even less than that. Congrats Ms. Rhode, you are a true American legend.

Obama Claims Executive Privilege For Something He Supposedly Didn't Know About

Sphere: Related Content

Fast and Furious is no longer just being reported on right-wing blogs and Fox News. Obama ensured that a great many more folks will learn about the incident in which ATF, with the knowledge of DOJ allowed guns to be purchased in the US and "walked" across the border in order to track them to drug cartels. At least that's the official story but a more likely scenario is that the Obama administration wanted to use the story of guns getting into the hands of Mexican drug lords to curtail our gun rights at home--but I digress.

So the guns--2000 of them--are transported across the border and FBI, DEA, DOJ and ATF was supposed to track them...they didn't. One of them turns up in a shooting death of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry and another in the death of Agent Jaime Zapata. Many more were used to murder at least 500 Mexicans. In short, the US government was complicit in mass murder in an operation that was flawed in theory and execution. More background here.

Just as an aside, it's not going to look real good that two men who served their country with bravery and honor are killed by guns allowed to be given to drug gangs while their families grief is scorned and they are essentially pissed on by the president.

Rep. Darrel Issa (R-CA) asked AG Holder for emails and other correspondence pertaining to the case that is known as Fast and Furious. Holder turned over very little and what he did was heavily redacted. Issa pressed and Holder denied knowledge and kept refusing to turn over the documents that Issa is entitled to under the Constitution. Holder may also have perjured himself but we'll wait and see on that.

Yesterday--under threat of a committee vote to hold Holder in contempt--Holder tried to make a lame deal. Issa didn't bite and today the house Committee on Government Oversight voted to hold Holder in contempt along party lines. The next step is a full House vote next week according to Speaker Boehner and then it will be referred to a US prosecutor to get an indictment--a man or woman yet to be determined who works for...wait for it...Holder.

But before today's vote, President Obama claimed executive privilege--an executive order generally used to protect information regarding national security, diplomatic security or other sensitive information from being released. This is ironic since the Obama administration has been leaking information such as details of the Osama raid, drone strikes and other info that supposedly makes him look manly and tough.

So now we have a constitutional crisis unlike any before. I heard several liberals today say this is not remotely as bad as Watergate but as I recall, no one died when Liddy and the boys broke into a campaign office while two federal agents and hundreds of Mexicans have been killed in this case.

Obama has said from the beginning that he knew nothing about this, as did Holder. Holder does not work directly for the president but was appointed by him and approved by congress. in my limited law experience, I can't fathom how Obama can claim executive privilege when he claims to have no knowledge and Holder isn't covered under the law. Unless of course he did in fact know and is covering up.

It's further irony that Obamas stonewalling and the media complicity in not reporting the botched operation and subsequent death of agent Terry will now play into the hands of Issa and the GOP. If the media had done their jobs and reported the story in an unbiased fashion and when it occurred it would be nearly the story it's about to become. Giving guns to Mexican drug gangs and then allowing those guns to get lost only to turn up at the scene of a fatal shooting of an American citizen will not look good for this administration and the media will look worse then anyone for not reporting it straight. It's an enormous story now and the MSM are playing catchup.

You'll hear the left scream "Bush did it too" but just laugh at them. No, he didn't.

Trayvon Martin Case Re-ignites Racial Issues

Sphere: Related Content

The facts:

Trayvon Martin, a 17-year old black man, was walking home from a convenience store in Florida with some food and an iced tea. George Zimmerman, a hispanic man (as described by his own family) who served as a leader in a local neighborhood watch group came in contact with Mr. Martin and during an ensuing scuffle, Zimmerman fatally shot Martin. Zimmerman has not been arrested at this point and was within his rights in the state to carry the weapon.

We'll soon find out where the truth lies after the investigation is completed.

Until then, we'll have to deal with the media barrage and the nightly appearances of every single race-monger in the United States led by Al Sharpton. The issue has even drawn Obama in and promises to be a major issue for the next month as the media reports every single detail of this tragic story.

This is a horrific story and one I'm not sure anyone besides Sharpton and his cronies wanted politicized to the point it currently is. Politicizing any issue of this magnitude only hampers the investigation, makes people draw conclusions before examining all the evidence and sends people involved into cover-their -ass mode.

Yes, there are some disconcerting issues here about procedure and policy but time is needed to investigate and get to the facts. Facts are the only goal and the waters are getting so muddied that a proper examination of the facts may never be accomplished.

In the meantime, as a parent with a son nearly the same age as Trayvon, I say to the media and the race army led by Sharpton; let the investigation continue, justice will prevail. I feel for Trayvon's parents and would feel as they do about the inconsistencies. You have two minority men at the heart of the issue and tensions will elevate unless someone with gravitas takes a step back and says "let's wait, let's allow the investigation to proceed and see where it takes us".

Sadly, for a media whore like Al Sharpton, this will never happen because Sharpton is The Authority on All Things African-American.

Professor Jacobsen is thinking along these same lines.

Breitbart's Legacy: 1995 Speech of Holder on Tape About Gun Control

Sphere: Related Content

Eric Holder hates the 2nd Amendment, guns and will do anything to curtail the sale of them. The Breitbart people continue on with the Obama vetting process and deliver the next in what I'm guessing will be a long line of inconvenient videos of Obama and his cronies.

I'll leave the analysis to the pros but did find him calling Marion Barry one of the upstanding citizens of DC a laugh. This is 5 years after Barry got caught in a sting, was smoking crack and uttered the infamous "bitch set me up" line. This is who Holder considers a role model for kids?

Actually, now that I think about it, it makes sense...

The Best Case For the 2nd Amendment Yet

Sphere: Related Content

California is in dire financial straits with a huge deficit and the Governator's apparent distaste for tackling the real problems like illegal aliens and a fat state government. So what does he decide? Setting free 27,000 prison inmates:

Reporting from Sacramento -- The state budget deal negotiated by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and legislative leaders would reduce the population of California prisons by nearly 27,000 inmates in the current fiscal year.

That would be done with a combination of new measures, including allowing some inmates to finish their sentences on home detention, creating new incentives for completion of rehabilitation programs and scaling back parole supervision for the least serious offenders.
So there you go, instead of cutting loose 27,000 state workers who, to be honest, wouldn't be missed. Arnold is cutting loose 27,000 criminals who will--if recidivism rates are to be believed--mostly turn back to crime; especially in this economic climate. Happily for liberals, they won't be returned to prison because there won't be any room. That is until the liberals get mugged and become conservatives.

So we'll get a chance to see just how the repressive gun laws in California jibe with thousands of newly released criminals. It should be quite a spectacle.

Monday Night News & Notes

Sphere: Related Content

A cold spring thus far with temps in the low fifties and a lot of rain lately. i wish it would just get warm and stay warm.

Anyway, waiting for the next episode of 24 and catching up on the daily news of the day. Also, my son bought a bearded dragon like the one pictured at right yesterday. It's a prety cool lizard unless you're a cricket, which he devours with gusto.

Here's what I found interesting today:

-Sweetness and Light takes the NY Times to task for their latest instance of shoddy reporting. Thank God they have good fact-checkers, eh?

-The environmentalists forced the military to stop using lead ammo during practice because of the hazards of lead in the soil. They were required to use a "green" bullet that was made of supposedly less-hazardous constituents. It turns out they are carcinogenic and may cause even more harm to the environment and people. Classic environmental insanity, y'all. I hope i get the contract to clean these sites up.

-Anyone with an iota of sense could have told you that corn-based ethanol was a horrid idea. It's expensive, causes spikes in food prices and doesn't do a damn thing to combat supposed global warming. Congress included it in the last energy bill as a sop to the agriculture industry. Plus it does major damage to engines.

-Spinning the vast increase in ice in the Antarctic. These people will never go away, will they?

-A curse-filled "fisking". I like curse-filled fiskings a lot; especially when it includes sentiments such as : "Well the best part of you trickled down your mothers leg after the fleet left town."

-Hundred of thousands turn out for the Tea Parties and the media says nothing. Less than fifty turn out supporting gun control and it's big news. I feel bad for those who died at Columbine ten years ago but the two killers would have found a way to kill even if they didn't have access to guns.

Friday Night Videos--All Shred Edition

Sphere: Related Content

Tonight we celebrate the great guitarists. Who is great and who is not is arguable but these are guys who full on wail.

Let's start with the man who single-handedly (the left one) changed music for eternity. He was a paratrooper who seemed to do everything--including drugs--with reckless abandon:

Jimi Hendrix doing abbreviated versions of Stone Free, Purple Haze and Hey Joe from May of 1967:

Next we have a guy who died much too young after playing on a stage with Eric Clapton and the excellent Robert Cray at Alpine Meadows in Wisconsin. Stevie Ray Vaughn was a guy I always wanted to see live and it never happened. Here's Little Wing from 1983:

See also SRV and Jeff Beck doing Goin Down.

Now we move on to the possible next president of the NRA. This guy put out an album entitled Double Live Gonzo that me and my bro put on and horrified my mother that included a rap that ended with the immortal "this is a song for all that Nashville pussy". I was ten and my bro was eight, my mom turned 80 on the spot. Here's a live Free For All. Dude is/was insane:

Next we have Clapton doing Pretending from Argentina. Looking at Clapton's career is a trek through rock history: Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominoes and on and on:

To end this post, how about a little Eddie Van Halen from 1986. This dude changed music for the better. Every one after him for the next decade stole his riffs (or tried to). Here's an insane live solo:

Plaxico Burress Shoots Self in Leg

Sphere: Related Content

Nice team you have there, New York North Jersey:

New York Giants star wide receiver Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg Friday, according to multiple media reports.

Burress was hospitalized with gunshot injuries Friday night that were not believed to be life-threatening, FOX Sports.com reported Saturday.

A spokesman for the Giants on Saturday told PA SportsTicker that the team had no comment, although they acknowledged they are aware there was an incident.

Burress has not practice all week due to an ailing hamstring and already had been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins.

Citing sources familiar with the situation, the New York Daily News reported that Burress was shot late Friday night, but no further details of the incident are available.
Something ain't quite making sense here. Burress has had several domestic violence issues and they are acting guarded when discussing this incident. Was the gun registered? Did he own it? Why was it out?

Hey, the Eagles may suck and will probably miss the playoffs but at least we don't have derelicts like Burress under contract for the long term.

H/T: AoSHQ

Update: This report says he was in a club when he was "accidentally" shot.

Black Friday Deaths: It's Bush's Fault

Sphere: Related Content

I guess the lefties are getting their last parting shot at George W. Bush before The One takes office and the seas will lower, the sun will always shine and the world will love us again:

First a temporary maintenance worker died opening the doors of a Wal-Mart to a bargaining-hunting crowd of human wolves. And now two are dead at a Toys "R'' Us.

Lay a little blame at the feet of the government, for exhorting Americans to spend more money and shake off that recession gripping the nation...
Yes, this is on the blog of a major American newspaper. It's the governments fault for encouraging people to shop? It's clear that only increased spending will start repairing what's left of our economy after the Democrat-led mortgage boom went kaput. He does say the media deserves some blame but it appeared to be an afterthought.

But wait, it gets better, there's one last group to blame: gun owners:

And in Palm Desert, California, where police say an argument preceded the shooting at a Toys "R" Us, lay some blame on a gun-happy culture which encourages the resolution of simple domestic disputes with the pulling of a trigger.
In all accounts I've read from the incident, I've not see one that would indicate the guns used were legally purchased. Generally, law-abiding gun owners don't just pull out their guns and start blasting because of a toy dispute, but hey, this idiot hads to make it fit in with his meme that it's the fault of Republicans as a whole and our current government in particular. For the record, both incidents occurred in counties won convincingly by Obama.

And media folks wonder why newspapers are dying.

Update: Yeah, it sure sounds like the two idiots who shot at each other in the toy store were legal, experienced gun owners (emphasis mine:

The other man pulled a gun and pointed it at the first man but forgot to cock it, Scott Barrick said. The first man tried to run but was blocked by the line of people, then ran back toward the store's electronics section as the other man fired his gun, he said.

Friday Faves

How one idiot became a horde of GOP thugs.

The NY Times (yes you read that correctly) reports on some shady donations to Obama. Yeah, they temper it a bit but still reported it.

Screwy Louie Farrakhan has declared that Barack Obama is the Messiah. Sorry Louie, the media beat you to that months ago.

The WSJ calls out Sen. Chris Dodd on Countrywide. If a Republican had been in bed with a mortgage lender as much as Dodd and Franks were, it would be on a non-stop loop on CNN.

Obama camp accused of stealing gun group e-mail list. I would imagine that none of the shooters are going to vote for him anyway. Maybe he's amassing the list so he knows whose guns to take first come January 21, 2009.

2008 will be remembered for two things: it was the year that the media sold it's collective soul and gave up any pretext of impartiality and the year that Democrats corrupted the voting system in ways previously unfathomable.

The Liberal Media is So Ignorant of Weapons

Sphere: Related Content

So Newsweek takes a circa 2002 picture of Sarah Palin holding a shotgun and puts it on the cover. In the pantheon of Newsweek bias, this hardly registers a blip. A woman holding a gun? Gasp!

Whatever.

Anyway, here's the picture and it's fairly innocuous to Americans not living in New York, Boston, San Francisco or LA:

So the LA Times blog posts about it on the awards insider page of all things. Here's the post:

How did Newsweek convince Gov. Sarah Palin to pose with a rifle for its cover?

Simple. It didn't.

Instead, it used an archive (fancy speak for old) stock photo of her taken back in June 2002 and used it for the cover without her knowledge.

However, to the magazine's credit, it did not try to hide the fact that it's a stock photo, even printing circa 2002 on the cover and again referencing the date in editor Jon Meacham's letter entitled "The Palin Problem."
So that makes it OK.

Right? Or maybe not? What do you think?

Hey, is that even the right way to hold a rifle? Can't you shoot your foot off like that?

Just wondering.
And we now see why the media is always wrong on the gun issue. As many commenter's explained in nice and not so nice terms: it's not a rifle, it's a shot gun. And yes, that is a proper way to hold a shotgun that is broken at the breach and also unloaded.

How can one be so uninformed about a subject of which they write? That was rhetorical of course.

Protecting the 2nd Amendment in Heller Decision

Sphere: Related Content

Aside from overturning Roe v. Wade, Conservatives have pined for a clarification of the 2nd Amendment more than any other action from the Supreme Court. Today, we got it:

The U.S. Supreme Court Thursday, in a 5-4 ruling, for the first time in U.S. history declared the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution contains a specific right to individual gun ownership and rejected Washington, D.C., handgun restrictions, which were the strictest in the nation.

"There seems to us no doubt on the basis of both text and history that the Second Amendment conferred an individual right to keep and bear arms," Justice Antonin Scalia wrote in the 64-page majority ruling. "This meaning is strongly confirmed by the historical background of the Second Amendment."
I agree with what Rush said about it being pretty damn scary that four justices interpret the Constitution completely wrong as the 2nd Amendment is about as clear as any of the amendments.

The decision made clear that the right to keep and bear arms is an eternal right as envisioned by the men who wrote it. The Supreme Court (well at least a majority) interpreted the Constitution as is their job under the separation of powers unlike Roe V. Wade where SCOTUS made law and overstepped their bounds into the realm of the legislative branch.

Murtha's Top Aide Buys Gun With Campaign Loot

Sphere: Related Content

Some posts just kind of write themselves:

Rep. John Murtha’s (D-Pa.) top aide spent more than $2,000 of campaign money to buy a rifle and other items for himself at a National Rifle Association (NRA) charity auction, raising questions about whether the transaction violated House ethics rules and campaign finance law.

John Hugya, Murtha’s chief of staff, reimbursed the campaign Friday for the expenses after The Hill inquired about the use of campaign money for personal items.

The Murtha for Congress campaign paid for Hugya, a decorated retired colonel in the Marine Corps, to buy a rifle, knife, NRA blanket and other items at a Friends of the NRA auction in September 2006. Hugya disclosed the $2,151 purchase as a gift from the Murtha campaign in a financial disclosure report that recently became available online through Legistorm, a company that advocates for greater transparency for congressional documents and post many of them online.
No word on what Speaker Pelosi has to say about this issue.

Now Murtha--a former Marine himself--is definitely not your typical liberal when it comes to gun rights. He has repeatedly voted down intrusive gun legislation.

Yet, this can't sit well with a party that has exulted the man to stratospheric heights and who has, by selling out the Marines, established himself as a player in the House. This won't help his status among the more liberal faction of that august body.

I wonder if we'll hear Speaker Pelosi use Murtha as an example of the loopholes we have at gun shows next time the gun wars heat up.

Finally, the falsely accused Haditha Marines are still awaiting that apology Rep. Murtha. I'm sure they really enjoyed being accused of war crimes by you when they hadn't actually been responsible for any.

How Are Those Repressive Anti-Gun Laws Working Out?

Sphere: Related Content

It seems not so well:

Shelagh Fogarty was threatened with a gun while making a programme about crime on Britain's streets BBC Radio Five presenter Shelagh Fogarty today described her terror at having a gun pointed at her face while filming in Liverpool on Saturday night.

The breakfast show host was taking part in a special programme for the ITV1 Tonight programme to find out how safe Britain's streets are, to be aired tonight.

While filming in Norris Green, an area of her home town Liverpool, a car slowed down as it past her, wound down a window and a gun was pointed directly at her.

She believes had it not been for the sound of a police siren nearby and a CCTV van in the road, she may have been killed.
Of course the Brits will spin this saying that their gun laws are not draconian enough, which would of course miss the point completely.

I'll make it a s simple as possible for any Brit readers, if you outlaw guns, the only ones with guns will be outlaws. Or, I I'll make it more British: if you take arms from every chaps, the only wankers with arms will be those wanted by Scotland Yard and who wish to pop you in the arse.

Gun Laws & Mass Murder

Sphere: Related Content

In the wake of yet another mass shooting by a deranged psychopath, it's worth noting that they seem to mainly happen in so-called "gun free zones". This from Fox News:

But despite the massive news coverage, none of the media coverage, at least by 10 a.m. Thursday, mentioned this central fact: Yet another attack occurred in a gun-free zone.

Surely, with all the reporters who appear at these crime scenes and seemingly interview virtually everyone there, why didn’t one simply mention the signs that ban guns from the premises?

Nebraska allows people to carry permitted concealed handguns, but it allows property owners, such as the Westroads Mall, to post signs banning permit holders from legally carrying guns on their property.
What if one person, trained and licensed, had a gun when this turd opened fire? He probably would've been put down in a second and lives could have been saved. It's far past the time that legal gun owners should be banned from carrying weapons when around town. The fact that the mall expressly forbid guns is a farce as anyone with murderous intent is not going to suddenly stop a rampage because of a sign.

As usual, Glenn Reynolds sums it up best:

The pattern of mass shootings in "gun free" zones is well-established at this point, and I don't see why places that take the affirmative step of forcing their law-abiding patrons to go unarmed should get off scot-free.
