Fast and Furious Update

I would say one of the main but many reasons I wanted Obama beaten was to finally see an investigation into the death of Border Patrol officer Brian Terry. Terry was killed by what is believed to be an AK 47 allowed to "walk" or be straw purchased in Arizona and then placed in the hands of drug cartels--all with the direct knowledge of ATF. He was ambushed during a drug raid.

Fast and Furious was designed to subvert the gun lobby and the Second Amendment. If the case could be made that guns from pro-gun states were being funneled into Mexico and fueling the cartel warfare, Obama would have the ammunition he needed to go after guns exactly like he is now in the wake of the Newtown shooting. It failed and the plan blew up in ATF's face.

Now how high would the decision have to be made to green light a plan like this? At least as high as the Attorney General who would have undoubtedly informed the president of some aspects of the plan to avoid embarrassment and questions from the media.

The story is starting to unravel, albeit very slowly:

Attorney General Eric Holder and his Department of Justice haveasked a federal court to indefinitely delay a lawsuit brought by watchdog group Judicial Watch. The lawsuit seeks the enforcement of open records requests relating to Operation Fast and Furious, as required by law. 

Judicial Watch had filed, on June 22, 2012, a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request seeking all documents relating to Operation Fast and Furious and “specifically [a]ll records subject to the claim of executive privilege invoked by President Barack Obama on or about June 20, 2012.” 

The administration has refused to comply with Judicial Watch’s FOIA request, and in mid-September the group filed a lawsuit challenging Holder’s denial. That lawsuit remains ongoing but within the past week President Barack Obama’s administration filed what’s called a “motion to stay” the suit. Such a motion is something that if granted would delay the lawsuit indefinitely.

 Now imagine your Brian Terry's family. Imagine your son, brother or nephew gave his life for his country in a battle against drugs on our southern border. Imagine the government who it appears has culpability just ignored the investigation into the case. When a cop, soldier, Marine, airman, sailor or agent decides to take the job, they know there are inherent risks. They also know that the unwritten code says that if you should die or get wounded, you will not be left behind and you will not be forgotten. The expectation is that anything that will help solve the case will be investigated and no lead omitted. In this case, the very men who blessed the plan are the very ones who are pissing on the grave of a man who gave his life for his country.

This story will not go away because some in the right wing media won't allow it to. While the MSM has always steered clear of asking Obama questions about this case, some very bright and diligent people in the new media are on the case.

Perhaps we'll get more answers about his death since a man now in custody from another case has admitted to being the one who murdered Terry.

Univision Unloads on Obama and Fast and Furious

No main stream media element in the US will cover it so leave it to a Spanish-language station to do the definitive documentary on Operation Fast and Furious.

2,000+ weapons were allowed to "walk" into Mexico without the authority or knowledge of the Mexican government. Those guns resulted in hundreds if not thousands of Mexican deaths and at least the deaths of two Americans, one being Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.

This is a scandal worse than we've seen in decades. Watergate was peanuts in comparison and Iran-Contra and the Clinton-Lewinsky scandals were mere side stories when juxtaposed.

I don't really have to offer up the "what if Bush had done it" meme since we all know that it would have been on every news magazine for months and a movie would have already been released starring Selma Hayak as an aggrieved mother whose child was killed by Bush.

There's been a great many cases this election where the media have not just ignored a story but actively protected a sitting president by not even acknowledging the very existence of it. If I were Mitt Romney, I would spell it out and ask the president about it during the debates, During the domestic policy debate I would somehow add into one of the questions something akin to "and to add to our misery, President Obama's Justice Department authorized heavy weapons--as part of Operation Fast and Furious--to be smuggled into Mexico and the result was a dead agent, Brian Terry". In the foreign policy debate, I would insert something like: "Our closest southern neighbor can't even trust us when this president allowed heavy weapons to be 'walked' under Operation Fast and Furious, into their country without the knowledge of their government resulting in the death of hundreds of their citizens and one of our border agents; Brian Terry. That's not treating our neighbors and allies with any type of respect and it just goes to show how disastrous the Obama foreign policy has been".

If the media won't report it to the people, Romney will have to inform them himself. Sure, there will be editorial written about how mean it was of Mitt to bring it up but I guarantee you'll see a massive spike in Google searches for 'Operation Fast and Furious' and 'Brian Terry'.

See below a snippet of the special report and let's make this viral. Let's give the MSM the finger and show them that their time as the sole purveyors of information is past. If they cannot do their job--playing it straight with the American people--we will do it for them.

Dems Win one and Lose One

Obamacare lives, at least for now. Chief Justice John Roberts was the tie-breaker in giving the Obama administration a few breaths of life for his biggest accomplishment and highest tax increase on the middle class in history. He should be so proud. But Roberts said the law was constitutional because it was a tax giving the GOP a lifeline if they can oust The One in November and take back both sides of Congress.

I won't deny that this is a win for Democrats but one wishes they would act like professionals who've been there before not like what we've come to expect they are. I can't fault the Chief Justice either, he voted what he thought was constitutional and that's what we expect from a judge (damn, I hope that's the case). He played both sides but he did it pretty damn brilliantly. Here's to hoping he wasn't trying to cement a legacy.

In other news, for the first time, an Attorney general and sitting member of a presidential cabinet was held in contempt by the full House...twice. Plastic Face Pelosi acted roughly how she did when she held the gavel, like a little baby who cries when she doesn't get what she wants. She's an utter embarrassment to the US.

Here's the story on the second vote that was to hold Holder in contempt in a civil manner:

The vote was 255 to 67. Seventeen Democrats joined the majority of Republicans in voting yes. GOP Rep. Dan Lipinski voted not present, and 65 Democrats left the floor before the vote.

Congratulations Dems (even though you sure didn't get everything you wanted), this now sets up a true battle in November and one in which Obama's already way behind when it comes to the only issue that matters, the economy.

So even though the libs are gloating, the GOP wasn't the real loser, CNN was.

Breitbart's Legacy: 1995 Speech of Holder on Tape About Gun Control

Eric Holder hates the 2nd Amendment, guns and will do anything to curtail the sale of them. The Breitbart people continue on with the Obama vetting process and deliver the next in what I'm guessing will be a long line of inconvenient videos of Obama and his cronies.

I'll leave the analysis to the pros but did find him calling Marion Barry one of the upstanding citizens of DC a laugh. This is 5 years after Barry got caught in a sting, was smoking crack and uttered the infamous "bitch set me up" line. This is who Holder considers a role model for kids?

Actually, now that I think about it, it makes sense...

Things I Meant to Write About But Didn't

Blogging has definitely taken a back seat to work and family. My company recently bought a firm down south and we're trying to get them up speed with our culture and procedures. A northern company and southern company generally change at different speeds it seems.

Here's some things I meant to bring up but didn't.

The Gun Walker/Fast and Furious scandal:
Federal agents with what appears approval all the way up to Attorney General Eric Holder and members of the Obama administration allowed guns to be bought through straw purchases in the US and then were to be tracked into Mexico and the drug cartels. It was a backdoor operation designed to give Obama an edge in the eternal battle over gun control. That is until one of the guns was used to kill a US ICE agent and several other people. If this was under Bush, the widow would be all over 60 Minutes and the Today show but since it's Obama, the man's family gets slapped in the face and the MSM is mum.

I expect Holder to fall because of this if Rep. Issa and Sen. Grassley keep digging like they've been.

The Continued Beclowning of Paul Krugman:

Former Enron advisor and current NY Times blowhard Paul Krugman--he of the Nobel Prize in Economics--continues to prove what a loon he is by constantly driveling on about the stimulus not being big enough and closing his eyes to the fact that Keynesian theories are a failure in practice. He really showed just how much of a laughingstock he has become when he wrote that an alien invasion would be a good stimulus.

Rick Perry

This looks to be the only hope we have short of Chris Christie or Marco Rubio joining the race. I'm not a big of his social conservatism and his mixing of religion into his platform but the guy is a strong candidate on fiscal issues. Any guy that signs strong tort reform legislation is a guy I can agree with. Add to that his proven record on jobs and his realistic views on energy policy and he could be the winner. Again, this is not a social issues election but a fiscal one. In 2010, we made it all about fiscal issues and the economy and kicked ass. No one cares whether or not Jim and John get married when they have spent a year and a half looking for a job to feed their families. Leave the social issues at home.

Obama and Renditions

While keeping his options open on renditions (to the consternation of his supporters), Obama has kept a valuable tool for fighting terror. Just how effectively it will be used is another matter:

Many members of the Obama administration also served in the Clinton administration, which was widely seen as considering all legal ramifications of potential renditions before taking any action. As a former deputy attorney general in the Clinton administration, new Attorney General Eric Holder enjoyed a reputation for deliberating on renditions to the point of inaction — effectively vetoing such operations.

While an appearance of greater attention to the law might come as a relief to many, actors in the field do not have the luxury of endless deliberation and total consensus — they have a narrow window of opportunity in which to act on perishable intelligence. Assuming that Obama’s administration acts with deliberation and pursues consensus building (as he himself has emphasized, and has demonstrated in the bipartisan nature of his Cabinet selections), the legality of renditions might become moot if they are not agreed upon in a timely manner. There is a fine line to walk between efficiency and legality in this field, with extremes on either side being detrimental to national security.

Holder, much like Sandy Berger before him, can hold up an op to the point it can't be undertaken. The fact that Obama even left rendition on the table says that he may pull the trigger under some circumstances even if Holder will not. Another barrier could be Leon Panetta--the single worst choice to run the CIA in decades--who is notorious for being soft.
