Saturday Morning News & Notes

Sphere: Related Content

Snow is paralysing the region from DC to South Jersey. It forced me to cancel a trip north for a holiday party and skiing but once on the road this morning it was evident it was not a good idea to drive anywhere. I'm a good driver in snow as I've been doing it my entire adult life but even I wasn't comfortable with the kids in the car.

Anyway, here's a view from my back door taken about 30 minutes ago and it only started coming down heavily an hour or so ago:

Global warming indeed.

Here's what else is going on:

-The Democrats continue to meltdown. Healthcare has become the third rail of politics. The country hates the idea of Obamacare, the left in this country hates it for different reasons and now we have an intra-party schism that is destroying the coalition. Here we have a liberal slamming another liberal for being lackeys of the insurance companies. Savor the schadenfreude my friends, I know I sure as hell am:

-The vile Florida congressman Alan Grayson (D) is shamefully utilizing government resources to shut down free speech and potentially send a critic to jail. Remember when dissent was considered patriotic?

-That old curmudgeon Herb Denenberg rails against Congress and Obama. Someone definitely pissed in his oatmeal this morning.

-Shocker! The probe against Rep. John Murtha and other Dems ends without any findings. What a sham.

-Ex-Eagle and current Charger John Runyan is going all in and running for the seat in my district as a Republican. Note that the current occupant has been voting like a Republican in every single health care vote thus far as this district is deep red surrounded by a sea of blue. He's pretty good on the issues.

Monday Night News and Notes

My son's team took third in the USSSA World Series. They played ten games with ten kids and flat ran out of pitching. Good job boys.

Here's what's happening in the world:

-The blood on Walter Cronkite's hands.

-The noose is tightening on Rep. Murtha. Pelosi will continue to back him until it's no longer politically expedient and then she'll pull an Obama and throw his old ass under the bus.

-So much for stimulus and TARP transparency.

-Obama is stammering on the $100-million in budget cuts he promised. I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.

-Jimmy Carter cozies up to Muslims who perform clitorectomies and forced marriages involving teenagers but he just can't abide those women-hatin' Baptist's.

Still raining and has been for what seems a week. I'm going to build an ark.

Here's what's new:

-The Most Eloquent President of All Time is not.

-Are the Dems suffering buyers remorse on Specter. Let's hope so.

-DENIED! Living in a world of Obamatons.

-I was wondering when they would deal with particular brand of pond scum. We've all gotten the call.

-Murtha is 10 times more corrupt then any Republican could dream to be. Every day brings a new allegation of how brazen this guy was with our money.

-Ryan Howard (pictured) hit his league-leading second grand slam of the young season and Phillies record tying 7th af his career last night. Some guys never get one in a career, Howard has two in less than two weeks. Nothing like some of Mamas home town cookin'.

Hypocrisy Writ Large: Anti-Military Lefties Now Pro-Military Lefties

Sphere: Related Content

If W had ordered the military to cut down the pirates, the commies liberals would be freaking out yelling that we'll only encourage more violence and other trademark canards. But now that it's been ordered by The One, they just love those guys and gals in camouflage:

Obama signed the order giving the Navy the go-ahead to take these people out when they had the opportunity in February.

But the mighty armchair generals of the right will never acknowledge this, of course.
Amazing; all it takes is a highly trained military to pull your hero's stones out of the fire and all of a sudden he's friggin' Patton. Weren't the guys who executed this plan the same ones you so easily called murderers not too long ago? Remember Haditha and remember that they were exonerated but you didn't apologize? Now they're good because the order was given by Obama but had to be executed by them. As a vet I can only say you're pathetic scum who wouldn't raise a finger to assist the military when they needed it. You hailed your lib leaders when they spit on our men and women in uniform. You even went so far as to support those who were killing my fellow vets.

Crooks and Liars was all over the military for every accusation no matter how insane or ridiculous. John Amato wanted us to be guilty because it fit his preconceived notion of the military and those who serve their country. Worse, he believed and reprinted every single accusation and judged our Marines guilty before they even had their cases heard. They, of all blogs, should be the last to praise our military for anything. They lost that right with posts like this, this, this, this, this.... Fuck you with a dirty stick, Amato, us vets won't stand for the hypocrisy.

A few points to remember here my lefty friends, these guys were trained in a military that was restructured under Donald Rumsfeld that allowed great men like David Petraeus to move up and lead. Also, the president is cutting strategic parts of the military in the midst of two wars and the men who were so finely trained under Bush won't be available to bail out BHO next time.

Happy Monday.

Here's what's new:

-Obama continues to lose the goodwill of his supporters and, well, everyone.

-About that Economic Recovery Advisory Board that Obama touted as being so important--they've yet to meet. The One seems to be really working hard at this recovery.

-John Murtha is shameless, but you knew that. How did the people he labeled "racists" re-elect this clown?

-The Orlando Tea Party rally was 4,000 strong. Something is building, folks.

-The IRS has decreased audits on millionaires. I'm guessing Obama doesn't want to reduce his pool of potential advisers or something.

Election Eve News

Michael Barone on what to expect election night from the first poll closing to last.

The latest battleground polls. McCain leads in FLA and NC. They are tied in OH and MO and Obama leads in VA and CO. No PA numbers. Definitely trending McCain. Cause for hope or just getting our hopes up to be crushed?

The amount of people who are very confident that votes will be counted correctly is roughly the same amount who are very confident in Congress.

Via Ace, Mark Katherine Ham assembled the chameleon-like changes of Obama:

Vet calls Murtha a "fat little bastard". I've called him worse on a good day such as Abscammer, Pelosi lapdog...More anti-Murtha fun here. I viscerally hate the dude for what he did to those Haditha Marines.

Sweet: Murtha Resorts to Begging

Sphere: Related Content

I wouldn't count on much from your "racist" and "redneck" constituents:

Veteran Democratic Rep. John Murtha (Pa.) has sent out a last-minute plea for $1 million to save his hotly contested seat, endangered by his own remarks describing his district as racist.

In an e-mail sent to potential donors, Murtha’s campaign asked his supporters to maximize all campaign contributions.

“We need to raise another $1 million to compete,” his campaign fundraiser Susan O’Neill wrote in the e-mail obtained by The Hill. “We need money immediately.”

O’Neill blamed Republicans from outside Pennsylvania for Murtha’s problems. Polls show Murtha, running for his 18th term, ahead of his GOP opponent by just a few percentage points.
What's amusing is it is Democrats from outside Pennsylvania that Murtha is appealing to for help. GOP supporters outside PA = Bad. Dem supporters outside PA = Good. See, it's easy.

Tuesday Afternoon News

Sphere: Related Content

On this sleety, cold day--the first fireplace day of the year--I bring you the latest buzz from around the Internet:

Vets for Freedom takes it to Murtha who is in a real battle for his Congressional seat. It doesn't pay to accuse US Marines of murder, Congressman.

The Dems are stacking the deck in Ohio. Cheating comes quite naturally to them. Felons, the homeless, the deceased and finally people who don't exist at all are all pulling for Obama.

Rep. Barney Frank is gearing up to spend your money with reckless abandon. perhaps he'll even legalize prostitution clubs in his apartment so he doesn't have to deal with that unfortunate illegality again.

Some of the media have retained their respectability.

When your little-watched news channel gets ridiculed by both Hollywood libs and conservatives, it may be time to hang it up. love the rip at Olbermann.

Murtha Trailing 48-35

Sphere: Related Content

If Obama wins the presidency and the Dems win a veto-proof Congress, the sting will be greatly assuaged by John Murtha losing his race:

A Pennsylvania source has just leaked me brand spanking new poll data showing GOP upstart Bill Russell leading John Murtha among over 800 probable voters by 48-35.

This comes on top of the Susquehanna poll showing Murtha ahead of Russell by 4 points, within the margin of error.

The new poll is from Dane and Associates, which surveyed over 800 probable voters, randomly selected to reflect the district makeup, on Wednesday night.
How friggin' sweet would this be?

Western Pennsylvanian Murtha Calls Western PA Racist

Sphere: Related Content

Yeah, the guy who wrongly called a group of Marines murderers before he saw any evidence and then lied about it has now tarnished a region of his state where his constituency is as racist. The fact that he hasn't called the city of Philadelphia, which will probably never elect another non-African-American Mayor racist says all you need to know about the Democrats and identity politics.

GOP Creams Dems on Bailout

Sphere: Related Content

I would say that House Republicans put the wood to the Dems on this one. Devastating when laid out side by side with the original plan. In essence, the Dems got nothing of what they wanted with regard to union sops, ACORN and compensation.

Another loss for Pelosi, Murtha and their ilk. Their base must be so happy.

News and Notes For Thursday

Sphere: Related Content

It's feeling like fall is coming here in the great state of New Jersey. A beautiful time of year except it means winter is coming as well.

Here's some news from around the web:

-Babalu finds more communist craziness at the official website of The Messiah BH Obama. H/T: LGF.

-Pakistan figures they'd rather battle us than the Taliban/al-Qaeda. Probably not such a wise choice.

-My favorite story of the day concerns the worst congressman:

One of the Marines cleared in the killings of Iraqi civilians in the town of Haditha plans to sue his congressman today for statements he says defamed him and other members of his squad.

Former Marine Lance Cpl. Justin Sharratt, 24, of Canonsburg, will file a civil lawsuit against U.S. Rep. John P. Murtha, D-Johnstown, who was widely quoted two years ago saying that eight Marines carried out a cold-blooded killing of 24 civilians in the Iraqi town on Nov. 19, 2005.

Charges were later dropped against all but one of the Marines, with a military prosecutor calling allegations against Mr. Sharratt "incredible."

Noah Geary, a Washington County lawyer representing Mr. Sharratt, said his client will file suit today in U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh accusing Mr. Murtha of violating his constitutional rights as well as slander for statements about the Haditha incident. A 1:30 p.m. news conference has been planned to announce the suit.
Awesome, I hope he takes every penny that fat, corrupt bastard has.

-McCain is now tied again among registered voters according to Gallup.

-Palin Derangement Syndrome is now a nationwide epidemic and the symptom of blithering idiocy is manifesting itself.

-Leave it to the local press of Chicago who know Obama best to actually vet him and dig into his shady deals of the past. At least the AP is now forced to cover it. Don't expect to see this story in the NY Times tomorrow.

"Mr. Murtha, When Will Your Hypocrisy End?"

Sphere: Related Content

Rep. John Murtha called a group of Marines "cold-blooded murderers" when they stood accused of killing innocent Iraqi's. Almost every Marine has since been cleared in the case, yet Murtha has not only not apologized but rubbed it in when voting on a critical bill.

Murtha is an ex-Marine (I know that Marines never refer to themselves that way but in Mr. Murthas case it's quite fitting) and as such should have given the men--one of whom is a constituent--the benefit of the doubt. Instead, he branded them "murderers" without waiting to hear the facts.

The father of one of the Marines takes Murtha to the woodshed in a video for Murtha's opponent in the November election:

Murtha's Top Aide Buys Gun With Campaign Loot

Sphere: Related Content

Some posts just kind of write themselves:

Rep. John Murtha’s (D-Pa.) top aide spent more than $2,000 of campaign money to buy a rifle and other items for himself at a National Rifle Association (NRA) charity auction, raising questions about whether the transaction violated House ethics rules and campaign finance law.

John Hugya, Murtha’s chief of staff, reimbursed the campaign Friday for the expenses after The Hill inquired about the use of campaign money for personal items.

The Murtha for Congress campaign paid for Hugya, a decorated retired colonel in the Marine Corps, to buy a rifle, knife, NRA blanket and other items at a Friends of the NRA auction in September 2006. Hugya disclosed the $2,151 purchase as a gift from the Murtha campaign in a financial disclosure report that recently became available online through Legistorm, a company that advocates for greater transparency for congressional documents and post many of them online.
No word on what Speaker Pelosi has to say about this issue.

Now Murtha--a former Marine himself--is definitely not your typical liberal when it comes to gun rights. He has repeatedly voted down intrusive gun legislation.

Yet, this can't sit well with a party that has exulted the man to stratospheric heights and who has, by selling out the Marines, established himself as a player in the House. This won't help his status among the more liberal faction of that august body.

I wonder if we'll hear Speaker Pelosi use Murtha as an example of the loopholes we have at gun shows next time the gun wars heat up.

Finally, the falsely accused Haditha Marines are still awaiting that apology Rep. Murtha. I'm sure they really enjoyed being accused of war crimes by you when they hadn't actually been responsible for any.

Bush Pours Salt in Pelosi's Wounds

Sphere: Related Content

Speaker Nancy Pelosi came into Congress in January riding a sweet wave and was exulted by the media. Since that time, she's accomplished nothing except to alienate the Blue Dog Dems, piss off the hard-left anti-warriors and drive down congressional approval rates to record lows. Mission acomplished!

The Congress has had two main goals, investigate (and if possible impeach Bush) and get the troops out of Iraq. She's failed on both and sadly for the Donks the war seems to be shaping up quite nicely. Because of these failures on her part, Pelosi is taking heat on a daily basis and Bush just couldn't resist twisting the knife a full 360 degrees:

“We’re near the end of the year, and there really isn’t much to show for it,” Bush told reporters following a meeting with House GOP leaders.

“The House of Representatives has wasted valuable time on a constant stream of investigations, and the Senate has wasted valuable time on an endless series of failed votes to pull our troops out of Iraq,” the president said.
Pelosi responded of course:

With regard to Bush’s claim that the 110th Congress has little to show for, Pelosi pointed to several major bills that have been signed into law this year, including homeland security legislation, a minimum wage increase, and a tightening of lobbying and ethics rules.
Yeah, that whole ethics reform rhetoric really panned out, didn't it. John Murtha is the same old pork king he's always been and earmarks have increased across the board.

Let's just say that Pelosi is losing her support and the moonbats are getting all hand wringy because a) we seem to have turned the corner in Iraq and b) Pelosi has not been able to stop any meaningful Bush administration moves.

It's been a bad week for San Fran Nan.

Dems Continue Anti-Troop Maneuvers

Sphere: Related Content

The Democrats rode the wave of anti-war feeling to majority status in both houses. Granted, they won that majority by getting wins in southern states by conservative Democrats but on the whole, it was the war in Iraq that turned out the base. They talked of having a plan to end the war with dignity and of President Bush being either too stupid or unwilling to end it.

Now, here we are more than a month after they took office and the farthest they've gotten was to present a non-binding resolution that means absolutely nothing except to tell those serving in our militray that Congress doesn't support them.

They also have this:

Murtha, the powerful chairman of the defense subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee, will seek to attach a provision to an upcoming $93 billion supplemental spending bill for Iraq and Afghanistan. It would restrict the deployment of troops to Iraq unless they meet certain levels adequate manpower, equipment and training to succeed in combat. That’s a standard Murtha believes few of the units Bush intends to use for the surge would be able to meet.

In addition, Murtha, acting with the backing of the House Democratic leadership, will seek to limit the time and number of deployments by soldiers, Marines and National Guard units to Iraq, making it tougher for Pentagon officials to find the troops to replace units that are scheduled to rotate out of the country. Additional funding restrictions are also being considered by Murtha, such as prohibiting the creation of U.S. military bases inside Iraq, dismantling the notorious Abu Ghraib prison and closing the American detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

In essence, the vile Murtha will slowly drain the troops we have there while not supplying replacements. Those who are in Iraq will be fighting an enemy emboldened by our weak Congress and will be fighting them with less forces. In short, Murtha is setting our troops up for nothing more than political gain.

I've said this a million or so times before, if Pelosi's band of idiots had any balls, they'd defund the war effort right now and Bush would have no choice but to bring the troops home. Pretty damn simple. The problem for the donks is that they have no guts, they know full-well that once they make that move and Iraq implodes on itself, they will get the blame.

That leaves them one option, make it tougher for the troops to win, increase the death count and force Bush to make the move to bring them home. That scenario leaves Bush as the fall-guy and it will shore up whoever gains the donk nomination in 2008. That also is a grievous misservice to those who volunteered to wear the uniform and defend our nation. It seems the old Marine Murtha cares more about his party and politics than he does about the oath he made when he joined: Semper Fidelis.
