Of Laws and Liberals

Sphere: Related Content

I can't ever seem to wrap my brain around the liberal way of thinking and to be honest, if I do, it will probably scare the hell out of me. Not that I think they are as smart as they themselves seem to believe but deviousness is something that just comes easily to them.

Take the Joe Sestak job offer for instance. Sestak was offered a job--whether non-paying or paying is in doubt but is irrelevant--to drop out of the primary against Snarlin' Arlen Specter--the turncoat RINO. Sestak was quite clear that it was someone in the Obama administration that made the offer and it sounded as if it was an offer that would have set him up quite nicely. This week it came out that the offer was made by no other than Slick Willy Clinton who can't seem to keep his slimy tentacles out of our official business.

So how do leading liberal writers respond? They say ignore the law as Eric Alterman does here:

"The law," you say? Is someone going to arrest Clinton or Emanuel or even Obama for doing this, assuming they did it? Well, it turns out there is a law: "18 USC 600," which makes it illegal "to offer employment, position, compensation, or other benefit made possible by an Act of Congress in exchange for 'political activity,' including support for or opposition to a candidate, including in a primary election," as Columbia Law professor Richard Briffault explained to The Daily Caller.

Thing is, this is not the kind of law to which anyone has ever paid any attention before. And a good thing, too, as nobody would ever get a job. Has anyone noticed that Hillary Clinton stopped saying mean things about Barack Obama and is no longer a threat to his presidency since he appointed her secretary of State? Was that illegal? What about his choice of ex-Utah Governor Jon Huntsman Jr., who looked like a strong contender for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, to be his ambassador to China? Slammer time for that, too? And remember when the Obama administration was in talks with Republican Judd Gregg to make him secretary of Commerce? He was on again, off again, etc., but there was clearly a deal in place.
You see, every one does it so it's not really breaking the law. But this time, the smartest, savviest, most intelligent president ever is busted so it's become a big deal. A sitting president violated the law in a blatant way and got exposed for his efforts so it's not so easy just to forget about it and move along this time.

Liberals have a long history of this type of thinking. A recent example would include the immigration debate whereby they are saying that it's perfectly fine for aliens to sneak into our country, mooch off of our services and then remain here taking jobs from those who need them and generally giving us the finger while doing it. But we must have compassion they say, we'll just ignore the fact that they've broken the law and in fact we'll reward them for doing so.

The rule of law for liberals is great when it's a law they've written and like. They love government intrusion through regulation but turn a blind eye when it affects them.

You can't have it both ways lefties, you either abide by the law or you don't. They aren't deep critical thinkers, they are hypocrites and elixir salesmen who consider themselves above the laws that only apply to us lowly folks. This administration that was supposed to be open and transparent has become one that has not cleaned up the filth and scum in DC but instead has entrenched it.

Name a special prosecutor now, Mr. Holder. A crime has been committed and should be investigated. As with the aforementioned Clinton, it's a crime that people can understand. It's not illegal campaign contributions or a shady real estate transaction; no this is a simple quid pro quo done by a regime that said would change that thinking.

More Liberal Astroturfing

Sphere: Related Content

Since the left has never been able to get grassroots traction like the Tea Party movement, they've gone the direction they always go...astroturfing:

A seemingly grassroots organization that's mounted an online campaign to counter the tea party movement is actually the front end of an elaborate scheme that funnels funds -- including sizable labor union contributions -- through the offices of a prominent Democratic party lawyer.

A Web site popped up in January dedicated to preventing the tea party's "radical" and "dangerous" ideas from "gaining legislative traction," targeting GOP candidates in Illinois for the firing squad.

"This movement is a fad," proclaims TheTeaPartyIsOver.org, which was established by the American Public Policy Center (APPC), a D.C.-based campaign shop that few people have ever heard of.

But a close look reveals the APPC's place in a complex network of money flowing from the mountainous coffers of the country's biggest labor unions into political slush funds for Democratic activists.

...Varoga and Rakis keep a central mailing address in Washington, pulling in soft money contributions from unions and other well-padded sources to engage in what amounts to a legal laundering system. The money -- tens of millions of dollars -- gets circulated around to different states by the 527s, which pay for TV ads, Internet campaigns and lobbyist salaries, all while keeping the hands of the unions clean -- for the most part.

Remember, these are the same people who went ballistic a few weeks ago when SCOTUS shot down McCain-Feingold. They like the status quo because it made it much easier to pilfer hard-earned union workers funds and use them for purposes the local bricklayer or checkout girl never intended them to be used for.

All the players would be indicted under RICO laws if they weren't protected by the campaign finance laws that were overturned. It's a scam and one that will just inflame those who have become intrigued by the Tea Partiers. These people are scared by what happened in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts because they know their money laundering days are numbered if the Tea Partiers gain anymore clout or traction.

The unions have been dying of late and the one way to regain any momentum is to keep their Democrat cronies in power. They saw card check and other Obama policy initiatives as their way to gain back prestige and members. The libertarian/conservative Tea Partiers aim to ensure that doesn't happen.

Too late, losers.

Saturday Morning News & Notes

The Phillies dropped a tough one last night when the always reliable Chase Utley couldn't make a throw on a crucial double play. Utley--in his typical style that endears him to Philly--said there was no excuse, he just made a bad throw. They won one and own home field advantage coming back home so it's all good.

Here's what's happening in the world:

-The communist side of the liberal spectrum is pissed at the socialist side and they are hissing and spitting like feral cats. I for one am enjoying it immensely as it precludes them from pushing their horrid agenda.

-Putting a dress on a pig: The WaPo puts a happy spin on an economy that is on life support:

Still, the figure represents a significant improvement over the darkest deficit projections, which had been as much as $400 billion higher earlier this year, when the economy was wallowing in recession. Since then, the outlook has brightened and a government bailout has successfully stabilized the nation's troubled financial sector. In a report released Friday, Treasury Department officials said the government had spent $132 billion less than expected in August, due primarily to a drop in anticipated spending on the banking bailout.

Er, exactly when was the nation's troubled financial sector "stabilized?"

-Obama threatens to destroy the insurance agency again. It's the "Chicago Way". An industry that has created millions of jobs and only reaps about 3% in profits is overtly being warned by a sitting president and a nation sits on its collective hands.

-California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa takes on the entrenched Democratic establishment.

-Newly minted Nobel Laureate allows our troops to die because he can't make the hard decisions required by the CinC. Obama said this was the right war and since his inauguration has done nothing but hamper the efforts of our brave men and women. They deserve more than that. These heroes and patriots, as well as those of other nations continue to die while their commander doesn't seem to care because dancing with Latina singers and berating the insurance industry is much more important than the lives of men like Specialist Justin Gallegos or the hundreds of others who've died while fighting against al-Qaeda.

-Local firefighter suspended for refusing to remove and American flag sticker from his locker. Can't have any jingoistic patriots in our midst in this new, improved Obamanation, can we?

I leave you with the always good Chip Bok:

So Much For Transparency On Stim $

Sphere: Related Content

We were promised that every single dime would be tracked of the $700+-billion dollars injected into the economy to create a stimulus effect. We were told that this would be the most transparent administration the country had ever seen. We were told that the culture of corruption was a thing of the past and that our money would be watched like a hawk to be sure that it went where it was supposed to go.

We were lied to:

WASHINGTON — Although President Obama has vowed that citizens will be able to track "every dime" of the $787 billion stimulus bill, a government website dedicated to the spending won't have details on contracts and grants until October and may not be complete until next spring — halfway through the program, administration officials said.

Recovery.gov now lists programs being funded by the stimulus money, but provides no details on who received the grants and contracts. Agencies won't report that data until Oct. 10, according to Earl Devaney, chairman of the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board, which manages the website.

Devaney told a House subcommittee Tuesday that it will be a challenge to have the site ready to present spending data in five months. He said after the hearing that the board doesn't have enough data storage capacity, for example.

Here's a novel idea; why didn't we spend some of the stimulus money on more "data storage capacity" instead of funneling it to groups like ACORN? I'm sure we could have reduced the amount we gave to the NEA so that we could upgrade our data storage capacity and allow Americans to see where their money is going. A few less "Piss Christs" and other "art" projects may have been put off but we would at least have some clarity on the stim dollars.

Money for community organizers and Democrat votes is good. Transparency is bad. This was predicted of course.

Hope and change my friends, hope and change.

Still raining and has been for what seems a week. I'm going to build an ark.

Here's what's new:

-The Most Eloquent President of All Time is not.

-Are the Dems suffering buyers remorse on Specter. Let's hope so.

-DENIED! Living in a world of Obamatons.

-I was wondering when they would deal with particular brand of pond scum. We've all gotten the call.

-Murtha is 10 times more corrupt then any Republican could dream to be. Every day brings a new allegation of how brazen this guy was with our money.

-Ryan Howard (pictured) hit his league-leading second grand slam of the young season and Phillies record tying 7th af his career last night. Some guys never get one in a career, Howard has two in less than two weeks. Nothing like some of Mamas home town cookin'.

New Years Day News and Notes

Sphere: Related Content

Happy New Year. While shaking the hangover away and drinking your sixth cup of coffee, peruse the links below.

Microsoft seems to have begun 2009 the way they ended 2008. This is anecdotal but my wife mentioned the Apple store was packed the other day.

What the hell is wrong with the British left? The term "inmates" is considered offensive to those convicted of crimes and serving time in prison. Read it all to see the opposition comments, they are priceless.

And the Enemy of the Year is...

Fifty years of oppression, murder, poverty and backward government...let's celebrate!

The most corrupt politicians of 2008. Alas, 2009 looks to be more of the same.

Finally, here's hoping for a Penn State win over the heavily favored Trojans. Do it for Joe Pa:

News and Notes For Thursday

Sphere: Related Content

It's feeling like fall is coming here in the great state of New Jersey. A beautiful time of year except it means winter is coming as well.

Here's some news from around the web:

-Babalu finds more communist craziness at the official website of The Messiah BH Obama. H/T: LGF.

-Pakistan figures they'd rather battle us than the Taliban/al-Qaeda. Probably not such a wise choice.

-My favorite story of the day concerns the worst congressman:

One of the Marines cleared in the killings of Iraqi civilians in the town of Haditha plans to sue his congressman today for statements he says defamed him and other members of his squad.

Former Marine Lance Cpl. Justin Sharratt, 24, of Canonsburg, will file a civil lawsuit against U.S. Rep. John P. Murtha, D-Johnstown, who was widely quoted two years ago saying that eight Marines carried out a cold-blooded killing of 24 civilians in the Iraqi town on Nov. 19, 2005.

Charges were later dropped against all but one of the Marines, with a military prosecutor calling allegations against Mr. Sharratt "incredible."

Noah Geary, a Washington County lawyer representing Mr. Sharratt, said his client will file suit today in U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh accusing Mr. Murtha of violating his constitutional rights as well as slander for statements about the Haditha incident. A 1:30 p.m. news conference has been planned to announce the suit.
Awesome, I hope he takes every penny that fat, corrupt bastard has.

-McCain is now tied again among registered voters according to Gallup.

-Palin Derangement Syndrome is now a nationwide epidemic and the symptom of blithering idiocy is manifesting itself.

-Leave it to the local press of Chicago who know Obama best to actually vet him and dig into his shady deals of the past. At least the AP is now forced to cover it. Don't expect to see this story in the NY Times tomorrow.

The IOC and China: A Marriage Made in Hell

Sphere: Related Content

Steve Friess takes down the International Olympic Committee and China:

No, the IOC's new wife knew this marriage of convenience would be too great an opportunity, and divorce far too costly, far too humiliating. Even after China's duplicity led to the outbreak of SARS and massive damage to the economies of Asia and Canada in 2003, the IOC held firm. The IOC also shrugged when China's lies led to the 2006 poisoning of a river shared with Russia. And it was much too late for it to matter when illicit manufacturing practices in China led to last year's massive product recalls and the deaths of hundreds of pets worldwide.

The trouble is that the whole world will be watching this month - and will know what it sees. That old trick China has played all this decade - with the IOC's help - of simply saying the opposite of the truth, and having the world believe it, can't work with this sort of withering scrutiny.

That's oddly reassuring. China is not ready for her close-up. This bride is about to be exposed for the lying, cheating gold digger she was all along.
The IOC has been complicit in some shady deals throughout its history including the vile Avery Brundage who refused to allow the 1936 Olympics in Berlin to be moved or canceled when Jewish athletes were excluded and his heartless push to continue the Munich games after Palestinian terrorists killed Israeli athletes and coaches in September 1972.

Spaniard Juan Antonio Samaranch ruled the IOC and while President corruption flourished. His "leadership" encouraged bribery while looking the other way at the indiscretions and human rights abuses of countries hoping to host the games, including the oppressive regime in China.

Current IOC President Belgian Jacques Rogge has been duped repeatedly by the ChiComs who promised clean air, unlimited freedom of access via the Internet and improved human rights. They've delivered on none of the above and once the cameras are gone, the crackdown on Tibet and groups like the Falun Gong will recommence with fervor. The Chinese government did "relax" restrictions on the net yesterday but unfettered access isn't going to happen and the "Great Firewall" will go right back up after the world leaves and looks the other way as we they did when tanks ravaged student at Tienanmen Square.

Read the entire piece as it is a devastating indictment of the IOC and China written by a man who knows the country well.
