Which Joe Are We Gonna See?

I don't have the faintest clue how to even predict this debate. I mean, we know Ryan will be on his game, the dude has mastered the facts unlike anyone else and knows policy inside and out.

No my friends, the real wildcard here is Joe Biden. He won't be saved by something the media can glom on to like Sarah Palin winking or other such garbage. Old Joe will have to actually perform well and he's got the campaign riding on his shoulders after the Obama meltdown last week.

So what Joe will we see? Perhaps the folksy Joe who's everyones friend? Probably not since that Joe always says something incredibly stupid. How about foreign policy Joe? Possibly since Ryan is smarter and will pummel him on all issues, especially since Obama's in the midst of a self-inflicted wound that has lasted a month today with the embassy debacle in Libya.

I'm really not sure but I'm guessing even if Joe makes about ten mistakes and Ryan destroys him and leaves him slobbering in the corner, the media will call it a draw at least because they know full-well that Obama's campaign can't survive another disaster.

God bless Joe Biden. If anything were to happen to Old Joe, Obama may get smart and get a VP who actually has a clue what the hell he's saying. In the meantime, we still have Biden to say idiotic things whenever he opens his mouth:

Yeah Joe, you are really in touch, buddy. Nearly a cool, half million collected at a fundraiser at $5,000-per-person is the kind of event that Joe Sixpack would be attending right before he went to work on the night shift. These people actually have said this shit for so long they now believe it.

This is easily the most tin-eared administration in history. Bombings in Iraq; Obama goes golfing. Korans accidentally get burned and American military officers get murdered and Obama apologizes inflaming the situation more.

I mean, imagine if Bush had done any of these things.

Biden Is Still the Reigning Gaffe King

So, the word is out that the movie dramatization of Game Change will portray Sarah Palin as a complete idiot and the worst selection for a running mate in campaigning history. But unfortunately, we got stuck with actual worst VP in history:

Vice President Joe Biden had his (5,400,321st--ed) “oops” moment Wednesday speaking in a 49er-crazed San Francisco when he told a crowd at a city political fundraiser that “the Giants are on their way to the Super Bowl.”

Biden spoke at a closed event in the city’s financial District at the Bently Reserve when he made the gaffe, according to a White House pool report released today.

The comment by Biden drew immediate “good-natured” boos from the crowd, according to the report by Josh Richman of the Oakland Tribune, who was the only local print reporter allowed to cover the event.

Generally the VP's job is to stand in for the president, back all his policies and attend overseas funerals. Not all are as active in the administration as, say, Dick Cheney was but he was the exception and not the rule since he was one who was qualified to ascend to the highest office. Generally they are dolts like Al Gore who hope to win the presidency simply by being the sitting VP. It says something about Reagan that he was so well liked, people actually voted GHW Bush in to keep his policies going but I digress.

Anyway, we have dumbass from Delaware trying to play to a crowd by using sports as a crutch and he can't even get that right. i mean, Joe, dude, you might as well go to NYC and say that "the Red Sox are on their way to the World series".

Obama is the most amateurish president in the last 60 years and perhaps even the one with the poorest grasp of policy but Joe Biden will go down as the single lamest VP in history. Yes, that include Agnew and Gore.

What a friggin' embarrassment.

Joe Biden is Insane

I commented earlier how Biden took credit for the biggest success of the Bush presidency but the guy has got to be clinically stupid to think that this wouldn't be broadcast all of the net:



Biden was wrong on every single aspect of Iraq except to vote for authorization, which he then went back on when things didn't go exactly as planned. The GOP has to hammer Biden with this ad nauseum and everywhere they can. Obama is quickly becoming the liar president and old plastic Biden isn't helping. The American people know damn well that it wasn't Obama who had the balls to allow Petraeus to win Iraq. I'm betting Biden gets dropped when the Obama administration goes into full on panic mode in 2012 when they realize that Hope and Change isn't exactly working in the next campaign.

The Weekly Good, Bad and Really Ugly

Haven't posted in a few days so here's a quick review of the week:

THE GOOD

-US, British and Canadian forces are attacking the Taliban in the Helmand Province town of Marjah. This is the largest offensive in years and the first big offensive since Obama took office. Thank you to our great and long-term allies who are helping us. This will be a tough slog but we have the greatest military in the world and the best soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines to get the job done. Two NATO fighters have given the ultimate for the cause.

-NJ Governor Chris Christie was elected to get the Garden State's fiscal house in order. He's living up to that by freezing spending via executive order and pissing off the Democrats in the process. He's making some hard choices and has stuck to his pledge to cut spending and not raise taxes even though the pressure to do so has been intense. Expect to hear some bad things about the guv and expect to read story after story of how people are suffering because of the cold-hearted conservative currently leading the state with the highest taxes in the nation. The Dems/libs will come after him hard led by the left-wing rag the Newark Star-Ledger.

THE BAD:

-A professor whom was denied tenure shot three people in Huntsville, AL. Liberals will paint this as some crazed hillbilly gun nut who clings to religion shooting up a school. They would be lying.

-Obama signs Pay Go--a pay as you go plan-the day after he signs off on a debt ceiling increase of another $1.9-trillion. Yes, with a "t". He's spending us into oblivion.

THE UGLY

-Joe Biden actually had the gall to say the following:

I am very optimistic about Iraq. I think it's going to be one of the great achievements of this administration.

This is the same a-hole who proposed a dumb ass three-state solution and Obama is the one who was vehemently against the surge when President Bush proposed it. The very same surge that cost Bush a ton politically but saved the Iraqi nation and the lives of a great many of our troops. Obama was in the Harry Reid and Murtha camp and didn't trust in our military leaders as capable. After Bush's instincts proved successful and our men and women accomplished the supposed impossible, Biden claims credit for the man who did nothing. The Iraq war wasn't even a campaign issue by the end of the summer in 2008. For the record, the Iraq Victory celebration happened even before Obama was inaugurated.

If I had the ear of prominent Republicans, I would produce ads featuring Obama, Biden, Reid and Pelosi expressing severe doubts about the surge and then add that little claim by Biden at the end. The American people know damn well who won and who will get credit and sure as hell won't be Obama or Biden.

-How much money was redistributed in the name of saving the climate? Trillions and trillions on a claim that has been proven to be hideously wrong. At least we didn't fall for it as much as the Aussie's or Europe did.

Thursday Night News and Notes

Back from Florida. My son continues to play and play well. He threw a kid out stealing second today and his dad is a proud man.

Here's what else is happening:

-Sen. Barbara Boxer played racial politics and then got creamed by the head of the Black Chamber of Commerce for doing so.

-Joe Biden is the gift that keeps on giving. According to Joe, we need to become bankrupt to keep from becoming bankrupt. Gaffetastic:

“We’re going to go bankrupt as a nation,” Biden said.

“Now, people when I say that look at me and say, ‘What are you talking about, Joe? You’re telling me we have to go spend money to keep from going bankrupt?’” Biden said. “The answer is yes, that's what I’m telling you.”

-The One is losing his cool with his core constituency, which would be the media.

-Nancy Pelosi's Congress was supposed to be the most ethical, bi-partisan and open ever. Ethics? Well, Murtha has made Randy Cunningham look like an amateur. Bi-partisan? Er, no.

What's up? Just relaxing and watching a little WBC baseball with Puerto Rico taking on the upstart Netherlands squad that beat the vaunted Dominicans twice in three games.

Here's what's new in the world:

-Dude, no way! Cops confiscate over a million bucks in cash and dope from Phish heads in Hampton, VA. They were way cooler when I saw the Dead there for this epic show in 1988. That's serious harshing of a man's mellow. I'm guessing the state of Virginia may just balance their budget if Phish comes through town in the summer.

-Joe Biden is a buffoon and a hypocrite. But then, you already knew that. So is Obama but you knew that as well.

-Tom Harkin is shameless but you knew that as well.

-95% of professors were shown to be liberals in a survey but denied they let that permeate into the classroom. Uh, okay, I believe that.

-Zo meets Michelle Malkin at CPAC and channels his inner Erkel:

Biden Claims Stimulus $ Reopens Factory

Of course, most of what Biden says is either wrong, a lie or plagiarized so take it for what it's worth:

Just weeks after the economic stimulus package spent billions on what the administration hoped would be massive job gains, Vice President Joe Biden Sunday hailed the re-opening of a Chicago factory as early evidence the stimulus plan is working.

In a statement released by the White House today, Biden commended owners of Republic Windows and Doors, a Chicago company that had closed down late last year, for re-opening the plant and rehiring 250 employees.

Can anyone tell me what new construction project has been awarded that would allow the plant to make and sell any volume of windows? If they were following pay-to-play rules, the contracts would have to be bid openly and probably haven't even been awarded as yet. So either the plant is violating the rules on winning bids or Biden is full of shit. My guess is the latter.

McCain/Palin Making a Move

It's becoming a trend. Drudge is teasing that Obama only has a 3% lead now (update: here's the Rasmussen report) and if the public even believes a little that McCain is still in this, the voters will turn out in droves. polling has seriously suffered the last few cycles, however.

The media rush to support and declare Obama the winner is just not supported by the facts and a final push by McCain/Palin could make this an election where we won't know the winner when we go to bed on Tuesday night. The backlash would make Bush/Gore in 2000 seem tame by comparison.

Rasmussen has the electoral votes (scroll down to map) well within Obama's favor but they also have Pennsylvania and Florida in the Obama column and I'm not so sure that either will be won by Obama. Florida because the large Jewish population may have some trepidation voting for a man who seems comfortable with the Palestinians (and were Hillary supporters by a greater than 2:1 margin) plus the Cuban vote plays large and they've seen what socialist policies can lead to. I mention Pennsylvania because the counties between Philly and Pittsburgh always decide the state and Obama's comments about them--as well as Murtha's for that matter--will not play well. McCain's made serious inroads in the Keystone State of late.

Add to that the fact that people aren't quite sure about Obama. He's an enigma. Although the media has generally made him out to be this genius who has a special connection with voters, even they are saying they know nothing about the man--this after spending a year with him. Also, before you go to the race card, it's not that America won't vote for a Black man, they may not feel comfortable voting for this Black man. There's a huge difference.

Is there a reason to hope? Yes. It all comes down to how they close and as any baseball fan knows, your closer is crucial. Is Obama Brad Lidge or the NY Mets bullpen?

I'm guessing that Joe Biden has been told to stick to the script today in Florida while Sarah Palin has been unleashed and told to go for the jugular in Ohio and Indiana.

A Preview of the Final Week

Here's how each candidate should play it in the closing week:

McCain will continue to pound Obama on his inexperience;
Obama will continue to pound McCain on his age;

Palin will continue to go after Obama in Western PA and Ohio;
Biden will continue to say stupid things unless Obama buttons him up;

The media will continue to withold stories that would harm Obama;
The media will continue to run stories on how bad a candidate Sarah Palin is in their opinion;

Obama will continue to spend obscene amounts of money nationwide;
McCain will target his ads in specific regions;

The media crescendo will continue to get louder about an Obama blowout;
The polls will not show this and continue to get tighter;

The talk the entire week will focus on voter fraud;
The talk will not include the word ACORN and be targeted at the GOP.

That's it in a nutshell, folks. Let's see how it plays out.

The Budding of a Political Star

In the months since Sarah Palin was selected as John McCain's running mate, we've seen her go from one who was very comfortable making a speech and wowed the country when addressing them from the GOP convention but not as sharp with the minutiae of daily politics in interviews to someone who seems very comfortable in her role.

Of late, Palin is the only one talking with the press it seems and on the stump is constantly hammering the Obama/Palin cabal into submission. She jumps on every misstep and slams them the next day with a smile and a twinkle in her eye.

In doing so, she has managed to become the savior of the GOP and the most hated Republican by liberals since George W. Bush actually still mattered. Check out this:



She's as good at speaking with an audience as Bill Clinton in his prime and absolutely blows Obama away when connecting. She leaves Biden and McCain in the dust and has cemented herself as the GOP standard bearer going into 2012.

How ironic it is that the woman to watch in modern politics is a mother from Alaska who was written off as a joke just months ago. Imagine how good she'll be when she actually has time to grasp every nuance of foreign and domestic policy. Obama versus Palin in 2012 is looking like a brutal affair and the future of the GOP has been turned on its head in a matter of weeks.

With less than four weeks to go and coming off a lackluster debate, here's what's going on in the worlds of Obama/Biden & McCain/Palin.

Supposed big news from John McCain's camp today. Update: The big news is the Ayers ad.

Sarah Palin is going to drop the ceremonial first puck at the Flyers/Rangers game on Saturday. I expect to hear a smattering of boos but mostly cheers from the decidedly suburban crowd. A gamble for the campaign for sure but remember, these are fans that stopped a hockey game between these two teams so they could watch President Bush speak in the wake of 9/11. Best comment so far from Philly sports fans who are pissed off on a good day:

Good PR stunt by Snider! An attractive, smart, Vice Presidential candidate can drop the puck here anytime and promote the sport. Afterall, the Democrats have been dropping the ball in this City for decades.

Finding falsehoods in a Biden campaign e-mail. It's like counting hairplugs in a bad hairdo...

The spotlight is on ACORN and it's forcing the cockroaches to scurry. This is another Obama mess the media failed to report that is coming back to bite him. BTW, 105% of Indianapolis residents are registered, I would bet ACORN ensures that it's a full 118% by election day. Chicago politics goes national, baby! A whole nation full of "community activists" await the election of Obama.

Cindy McCain seems the quiet mother and wife. That is until you vote to withhold funding when her child is fighting for our nation in Iraq:

"The day that Senator Obama decided to cast a vote to not fund my son when he was serving sent a cold chill through my body," Cindy McCain told a crowd of several thousand here, speaking in advance of Palin and her husband."I would suggest Senator Obama change shoes with me for just one day and see what it means to have a loved one serving in the armed services."

Biden Not Quite So Charitable

Despite making less than Sen. Biden, the Palins have been more charitable.

But Joe is more charitable with your money so he's got that going for him.

Best Debate Quote

Mark Steyn and I were on the same wavelength but being, well Mark Steyn, he said it in a more eloquent way:

And more than once you pined for a more devastating putdown. If I'd been in charge of "coaching" Palin, I'd take her out back, and set up the various Obama policy platforms as cardboard elk, lurking in the protective undergrowth of the mainstream media but still eminently hittable to a crack shot.

Debate Review. Update: Biden a Slacker?

I tend to be on the side that says Palin did good but not great. She stuck to her talking points entirely too much when she had some great opportunities to hammer Biden hard.

In the first minute of the debate answering the lead-off question, Biden said this with regard to the current financial quagmire:

I think it's neither the best or worst of Washington, but it's evidence of the fact that the economic policies of the last eight years have been the worst economic policies we've ever had. As a consequence, you've seen what's happened on Wall Street.

If you need any more proof positive of how bad the economic theories have been, this excessive deregulation, the failure to oversee what was going on, letting Wall Street run wild, I don't think you needed any more evidence than what you see now.

So the Congress has been put -- Democrats and Republicans have been put in a very difficult spot. But Barack Obama laid out four basic criteria for any kind of rescue plan here.

He, first of all, said there has to be oversight. We're not going to write any check to anybody unless there's oversight for the -- of the secretary of Treasury.

Palin should have said something to this effect: How can Senator Obama be trusted to lay out any plans to get us through this when he took the second most money from Fannie Mae behind only another Democrat; Senator Dodd? Your own party, Senator Biden, said in 2003 that Fannie and Freddie were in good shape while Senator McCain was prescient enough to see this disaster brewing back in 2005 and earlier.

A response like that would have put Biden on the defensive immediately and got the country paying attention more deeply than they did. I was a lost opportunity.

Second she mainly stuck to talking points and canned responses, which was to be expected but c'mon, let's interject something besides McCain talking points. Another lost opportunity was when Biden said this:

Here's what the president said when we said no. He insisted on elections on the West Bank, when I said, and others said, and Barack Obama said, "Big mistake. Hamas will win. You'll legitimize them." What happened? Hamas won.

When we kicked -- along with France, we kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon, I said and Barack said, "Move NATO forces in there. Fill the vacuum, because if you don't know -- if you don't, Hezbollah will control it."

Now what's happened? Hezbollah is a legitimate part of the government in the country immediately to the north of Israel.

This is pure and utter BS and Biden knows it. A group that became Hezbollah attacked the Marine barracks in Beirut in 1983 with backing from Iran. They grew stronger throughout the 1990's and have become the dominant party in Lebanon. When exactly did we kick them out and when exactly did Biden or Obama say to "move NATO forces in there"? Whe they were kicked out, where exactly did Hezbollah go to? Also, I'd like to see one example of Obama's prescience on Hamas winning in "the West Bank" or even Biden mentioning it. The fact that Hamas rules in Gaza and Fatah still controls the West Bank must have escaped Biden. Charles fact checks the hell out of Biden on this one and the proof of his out and out lie is damning. These were such bald-faced lies that it should have been whacked out of the damn park by Palin if she had more insight into the events that shape the world. More on this at Wizbang!

Biden looked old and wasn't especially sharp. He talked like a politician and was good for a lie here and a senior moment there, about what one expects from the Delaware Senator.

Don't get me wrong now, Palin won it but did she do enough to convert Independents? I don't really believe so.

Update: A ratings bonanza! I would bet many who watched say "you betcha" and liked what Palin had to say. We'll see in the next few days.

Update: Joe Biden only lied fourteen times last night. For Biden, that's a slacker effort.

It's Gut Check Time for Sarah Palin

Tonight we can see Sarah Palin redeemed and a new wave of euphoria enter the McCain campaign. The media at first ridiculed Palin and then was gripped by fear when she delivered spectacularly at the convention.

Since then, they've pummeled her daily and her interview appearances have been suspect at best. Her grasp of events that will shape the next presidency has been--I'll be kind here--not reassuring. Granted, there's not many governors who can come onto the world stage and answer every question asked in the manner of someone who has spent every other weekend on the Sunday talk shows.

So tonight, Sarah Palin has one last opportunity to prove she has what it takes. One last chance to say to America that she can do it and do it well. She has to be Sarah Barracuda and not Sarah the Nice Alaskan. Go for the jugular but not in a mean style, address every question head on and put Biden on the defensive, look America in the eye and say that she is not only qualified but the best person for the job.

It's crunch time and the real leaders step up at crunch time. It's the bottom of the ninth, down by one with a runner on second and two outs in Game 7 of the world series with Brad Lidge on the mound. Will she be Willie Wilson or Joe Carter. It's 3-seconds on the clock and she needs to nail a 47-yard field goal in the Superbowl kicking into the wind. Will she be Adam Vinatieri or Scott Norwood? Enough of the sports analogies but you get the point

But hey Sarah, no pressure.
