Tony Auth Lies Again

Philly Inquirer political cartoonist Tony Auth has drawn some seriously misguided (and some would say seriously anti-Semitic) cartoons in his day but this one is an outright lie (update, so is this one):

I've written the following letter to the Inquirer today taking Auth to task. The chances of it being printed are slim and none:

Tony Auth has made it a habit to stretch the truth when drawing his political cartoons, that is referred to artistic license. However, when he outright lies, the Inquirer has the duty to correct the lie before printing it.

In the October 17, 2007 cartoon, Auth has a picture of two mammoths (I would assume the metaphor was dinosaur Republicans) arguing who is the "real" Conservative. One of the mammoths says "I didn't believe in the Civil Rights Act!" This is a completely false portrayal of events that led to the passage of that landmark legislation and I believe Mr. Auth has been caught trying to revise history.

Let's set the record straight on which party supported the Civil Rights Act and which didn't. When debate raged on the act, it was Democrats led by Al Gore, Sr. and current Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) who fought passage with all parliamentary means at their disposal. In fact, Gore attempted to weaken the bill substantially by inserting an amendment that said "in defiance of a court desegregation order, federal funds could not be held from any school districts." While 23 Democrats voted for the amendment, including the mentor of Bill Clinton William J. Fullbright, only one Republican did and fortunately it failed.

Note that it was the so-called Dixiecrats (not Dixiepubs) who were responsible for the efforts to quash it. In fact, while only 61% of House Democrats and 69% of Senate Democrats voted for passage, a whopping 80% of House Republicans and 82% of the Senate GOP voted for passage. Most Southern Democrats voted against the bill including Byrd and Gore. Byrd had previously filibustered the bill for greater than fourteen hours until 67 votes were attained and the filibuster ended.

Perhaps someone should offer Tony Auth a lesson in civil rights history and maybe he'll realize that it was the party of Lincoln that passed the Civil Rights Act while the party of Senator Albert Gore, Sr. did everything possible to kill it. Auth's outright lie is just another example of his consistent bias against all things Republican and/or Conservative and the Democrats collective attempts at presenting revisionist history.

My "Tribute" to Tony Auth

Tony Auth has been a political cartoonist for the Philly Inquirer for decades. Today they have two pages showing his work and an article praising him. Strangely, they didn't include this particular drawing that made it past the editors and into the paper one Sunday:

Auth is a hard-core liberal and always has been. We've had more than enough material to make fun of him and his work over the years and it will be sad to see him go. Now the Inquirer's lefty bias will not be as evident and who will they get to portray their veiled anti-Semitism like Auth did above?

Auth has used lies, outright lies, distortions and smears over the years too cement his liberal street cred.

It leaves me to wonder where will the Inquirer go to get another lowlife douchebag on the par of Auth? I'm guessing they could always put an ad in the Inquirer jobs section (about two pages long since Obama took office), but then, no reads the inky anymore.

So, as a blogger and one of the few who actually pays attention to the Op/Ed page of the Inquirer, let me be the first to say "don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out you liberal dick".

Tony Auth has crossed the line (again) with this "cartoon".

I have some comments, but I'll let the good people of the Philly metro area say it for me:

Tony Auth's awful July 31 cartoon shows Arabs fenced in by a giant Star of David. I wonder what Auth's thoughts are on the Gaza Strip fence that has prevented any terror attacks into Israel from that region? Or what does Auth think of the U.S. fence that separates the United States from Mexico for the sole purpose of keeping out illegal immigrants, who, to the best of my knowledge, do not go to Los Angeles for the purpose of blowing themselves up in pizza parlors?

Strange how within the Israeli fence none of Auth's Arabs had bombs strapped to their chests or were making rockets for the sole purpose of killing innocent Jewish civilians.

Reason #345,707 the Inquirer is Failing Miserably

It's a funny thing about liberals; they seem to think that the reason people don't like their opinions or ideology is simply because they don't know enough about it.If they disagree with a particular policy initiative, just explain it over and over again. If they still don't get it, they are ether too stupid to grasp it or are just loser right-wingers.

With that in mind, let's look at the Currents section of today's Inquirer. Everyone reads the Sunday paper and one would think they would have something in the opinion section for everyone. One would be wrong. Considering that the paper's owners have been in bankruptcy, they should have taken a different approach, one that has been shown to work with papers like the Wall Street Journal that always makes a profit.

Here's what we have today in the major Philly broadsheet:

-Uber-liberal and Obama sycophant Cynthia Tucker blaming Wall St. for everything without once mentioning Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac or the Democrats policies that led to the failures.

-A piece on the power of Gaia and her will to do us harm with all the volcanoes and such. At least they didn't pull a CNN and blame earthquakes and volcanoes on global warming.
-Carlos Dews telling us that any policy disagreements we have with Obama are purely because he's black and we're racist. This was front page of the section with a nice drawing of a burning cross on the Whitehouse front lawn in case we were to ignorant to get the gist of his words.

-And finally, our old buddy, the vile Tony Auth. He drew this ridiculous cartoon that is wrong on every single level:

Get it? We're supposed to be bummed that things are looking better for the country and it will hurt us come November. The fact that the bailout loans were paid back with funds that were from the bailout pot seems to have escaped Mr. Auth. It was the equivalent of taking money out of one pocket and putting it into the other and saying you paid something off. Also, the only auto company in the US that is turning a profit is the one that didn't take a government handout.

Home sales did indeed increase by 27%. The truth is that there was only one way to go and that was up because we hit bottom. The percentage increase still leaves us far, far below the 2005 highs. Add to that the fact that the government is pumping money into the system just as they did with the Cash for Clunkers deal so the increase is not steady but is likely people trying to get some "free" money before the program ends. These are people who probably would have waited so expect next months numbers to go down.

As for the stock market, of course the market rebounded and it did so in site of Obama, not because of him. Lately, they got a return on the investment they made in him by getting a bill on the floor that effectively encourages them to take risks with our money because it effectively codifies Too Big to Fail. If they fail, Obama's slush fund will bail them out. AIG, GM and the others should been allowed to topple as the business world needs an ocassional enema. Obama allowed them to live on.

Funny that Auth did this cartoon when he never did one when libs were cheering every death in Iraq, every bad economic report and generally cheering anything bad for the country. Auth could have drawn the same thing with a donkey sitting in a chair and the up arrows labeled SURGE WORKS, HOUSING SALES AT HIGHEST LEVELS EVER, STOCKS HIT RECORD LEVELS & BUSH POLICIES SAVE MILLION OF AID-STRICKEN AFRICANS. But he's a liberal hack so he just invents good news now instead. I guess he couldn't find anything anti-Semitic or racist to draw today.

An Auth Picture Says a Thousand False Words

Tony Auth must've gotten beat up by a few Republicans in his day because the dude has gotten to the point where it's not only acceptable for him to equate Jews and Nazi's, now he has to paint all Republicans as xenophobic zealots:

This is Auth's modus operandi, he draws a cartoon that gets his point across regardless of the fact that the truth is being knotted in a pretzel. He knows that the GOP is only against illegal immigration, not those people who follow the laws of the US and go through the arduous process to become citizens. He knows that Republicans are talking about our southern border and the influx of illegal aliens from Mexico and South America, not those who come into the country legally as they did when they passed through Ellis Island a century ago, but hey, why let facts stand in the way of an idea that came to him while holding his crayons? In the Auth paradigm, protecting our southern border means that we hate all immigrants because we're Republican's--we hate everyone including the homeless, gays, women, the poor and minorities. That's the simplified world that old Tony lives in.

As I alluded to before, he's got no trouble submitting drawings that have no basis in truth but go only for the shock factor. He's like Ted Rall with better sketching ability and a few more brain cells.

Liberals are such angry and bitter people. I always thought it was because they were completely out of power but they now hold the House and Senate for a year (however unproductive it has been) and remain the same pissed off with the world bastards they've always been.

We Survived!

Well, the "day without immigrants" came and went and I didn't notice anything askew. I guess one or two lawns didn't get cut and my neighbor has a deck being installed that wasn't worked on.

I'm not one to say we don't need cheap labor in this country because we certainely do. But we need legal, cheap labor. We, as a nation are paying for the influx of illegals everyday in taxes and at hospitals and other services. I lived in Chula Vista, CA, approximately five miles from the border and knew many who were probably illegal. I'm not sure because it is considered impolite dinner conversation to ask ones immigration status.

Of course, knowing Auth, he probably drew this a week ago and submitted it knowing they'd spin this protest toward the illegal's point of view.

Helping Editorial Cartoonist's Find Something Funny About Obama

Consider it a public service and a help to my friends in the dead-tree, dying media who, gosh darnit, just can't find anything funny to draw about Obama.

Here's the gist:

After poking fun at George W. Bush for eight years — often drawing him with big ears and a severe overbite, or as a gung-ho Joe College type, or simply as a clueless doofus — political cartoonists are finding Barack Obama a more elusive target.

Bush's emotive facial expressions, easy-to-caricature physical features and, most of, all his deeply unpopular political decisions were fodder for liberal-leaning cartoonists. But the cool and detached Obama enters the White House at a time of considerable economic anxiety, bolstered by wishes of goodwill even from some political opponents.

"I had all my villains in place for eight years and they've been taken away," lamented Pulitzer Prize winner Pat Oliphant, one of the most widely syndicated cartoonists. "I don't know that I've ever had this experience before, of a president I maybe like. This is an antagonistic art. We're supposed to concentrate on finding things wrong. There's no point in drawing a cartoon that's favorable."

Oh Pat, don't kid yourself, you found Condi an easy target and didn't even give a damn you were being racist:

Now if Oliphant can conjure up that cartoon of an admirable former provost at Stanford who was the first African-American National Security Advisor and SecState, he sure as hell can come up with something about Obama.

Let's see what he can draw...how about we start with the dudes ears. He's got ears that would make Baby New Year laugh. Take a good look at these wind-catchers:


I mean come on, the guy can hear Nancy Pelosi's face cracking from Nepal with those otic receptacles.

Plus he smokes so that should make it easy. I imagine if Bush smoked, he'd have had a burner in every one of your smirking chimp cartoons.

Perhaps you can call Tony Auth, he can find a way to portray the Jews in a light that shows them as perpetrators of a new Holocaust, I'm sure he can give you some material to use drawing Obama, although he generally only deals in anti-Bush and anti-Semitic motifs. Plus, you can always go after Henry Waxman, if there's anybody who is right out of central casting for an editorial cartoonist, it's him:

So consider this a public service, Pat. You are part of a dying industry that just died a little more thanks to you.

Slick Willy is part of a group seeking to buy the Inquirer:

A private investment group whose board of directors includes President Clinton made a bid yesterday to take over a dozen daily newspapers owned by Knight Ridder, including the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Mr. Clinton serves as a senior adviser to the Yucaipa Companies, a Los Angeles-based investment firm that has joined with a journalists' union, the Newspaper Guild, to seek control of the 12 newspapers and gradually transfer ownership to the news outlets' employees.

As if the Inqy couldn't go any farther left. The reprehensible Tony Auth will now be featured on the front page, above the fold.

A New Low for the Inquirer

Tony Auth keeps meeting the Inquirers low standards with todays editorial cartoon. Background on the incident can be found here.

The Inqy couldn't stop with a cartoon, they needed to print a full editorial:

The fatal heart attack suffered by Philadelphia Police Officer Paris Williams during a scuffle with protesters Tuesday was tragic. But that shouldn't be another excuse for District Attorney Lynne M. Abraham to fire a salvo at Americans' constitutional right to assemble.

Abraham can be relied upon to never miss such an opportunity. Her message - intentional or not - seems to be that the city where America's key freedoms took shape doesn't really believe in that First Amendment stuff.

Let's be clear: Any protester who scuffles with police deserves to be arrested. (That's often their aim.) But Abraham's judgment in lodging felony assault charges against a Canadian man, as well as conspiracy and other lesser charges against four more protesters at the BIO 2005 convention, will be tested by the courts.

Her track record isn't great. When the district attorney took just as tough a line with protesters at earlier events - notably, the 2000 Republican National Convention, and more recently at a small, anti-gay demonstration - the courts knocked down the charges time and again.

A pattern of overcharging protesters who step over the line may be crowd-pleasing. But it gives the city a black eye as a place that squelches dissent.

Whether or not the protesters intended for a cop to die, the fact is that he did indeed die as a result of breaking up a scuffle that the protesters started and the police were forced to attempt to break up.

These are not college kids protesting the Dean because he decided to shut down a frat house. These are trained protesters who travel to every event and they have the goal of creating anarchy. They are worldwide as was evident in Genoa, Italy.

By inciting violence, they had a direct impact on a police officer's death regardless if the man was pumping sludge through his arteries and needed a quadruple bypass. It is not murder and Lynne Abraham is not prosecuting for murder, but they were criminally responsible.

Keep in mind that these "professional" protesters have a goal of forcing the police to act so that they can hurt cops.

Perusing the Inquirer

This is the mindset of Philadelphian's, especially those entrenched in the Democratic machine that is Philly politics:

I am writing in regard to the mayor's box at the sports stadiums. I have never sat in one; however, members of my organization have. Whenever an officer is involved in an extremely noteworthy situation, such as being shot or severely injured, I have been contacted to have these officers go to the next game. I have also been invited to join them.
The mayor also lets the officers invite their police partners.
The reason why the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 5 endorsed - and continues to support - Mayor Street is due directly to how he cares and ensures that our injured officers are treated with respect.

Here's the deal, the mayor of Philly used his taxpayer-funded luxury box to raise funds, or at least take care of potential donors. I find it amazing that the president of a local FOP would have the balls to to say that officer are treated with respect, this is the same mayor who recently awarded French politicians a Liberty Bell award who are going to name a street after infamous cop killer Mumia abu Jamal.

And of course, what good is a morning if you can't start it off with the always despicable Tony Auth.

Tony Auth sinks to an almost new low. The prortrayal of Bush as a puppet for the Israeli's would fit quite well in the pages of Arab News or other anti-US Arabic papers. Despicable.

A couple more things from Philly. Tony Auth actually makes sense for once, and the Eagles sell their soul.

Tony Auth's latest cartoon is giving more credence to the idiots who use the Bush=Hitler line. To Tony however, it's the entire Republican party who are Nazis. Despicable.

Tony Auth has such a hatred of Bush that he seems cunsumed by it.

Tony Auth is so crazy, like the rest of the Dems, that he is almost in Ted Rall land. Look at this cartoon. Hey Tony, W is not offering contracts to everyone. He's allowing countries, who chose to liberate a nation that has seen more death than any should, the opportunity to help rebuild that country. By the way, nice play on "Blacks not apply".

Here's another example of Tony's artistic and editorial genius. Let's put the enemy combatants on the moon. They are associate of the people who flew three planes into buildings and killed thousands. Ah, fuck it. It's not worth my time and I've got a friggin' headache.
