Condi Rice For VP?

Sphere: Related Content

Drudge has the scoop:

Late Thursday evening, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign launched a new fundraising drive, 'Meet The VP' -- just as Romney himself has narrowed the field of candidates to a handful, sources reveal.
And a surprise name is now near the top of the list: Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice!
The timing of the announcement is now set for 'coming weeks'.
Not a real big surprise as she is highly intelligent and accomplished, has been vetted and will whoop Biden's ass in the debates.

I wrote about a Condi VP run here.

Condi Rice For VP?

Sphere: Related Content

By all accounts, Condoleezza Rice impressed many at the Romney pow wow (note: ABC focused on the money aspect and the Condi quote is shoe-horned in but this has been reported many places):

Many of those same attendees said the star speaker of the weekend was former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who received and a standing ovation.  Ambassador Charles Cobb, who served as ambassador to Iceland from 1989 to 1992, said Rice was “spectacular” and described her as a “very bright, sophisticated, articulate lady.”
Not unexpected as Rice, the first African-American woman to serve as Sec State, is highly accomplished and has a strong resume. She served the country well as both National Security Advisor and her last governmental position at State.

Impressively, no books have been written talking of her poor leadership as is often seen after a Republican leaves a liberal bastion such as Foggy Bottom and her story is impressive. Serving under Reagan and Bush 43, Provost at Stanford, an accomplished musician and expert on Russian affairs.

I really want her to get the nod so I can watch her destroy a hugely over matched Joe Biden in the debates.

From a strategy standpoint, Rice is attractive, may tear away some of the African-American vote if she can explain to that particular community that has been devastated by the highest unemployment in the nation that it was Obama's policies that left them behind and shores up Romney's foreign policy credentials.

I previously touted others but Condi is getting a second look from me. The fact that she was at this event shows she's still willing to be a player and even if she's not selected would be perfect to help the Romney campaign as an advisor.

Helping Editorial Cartoonist's Find Something Funny About Obama

Sphere: Related Content

Consider it a public service and a help to my friends in the dead-tree, dying media who, gosh darnit, just can't find anything funny to draw about Obama.

Here's the gist:

After poking fun at George W. Bush for eight years — often drawing him with big ears and a severe overbite, or as a gung-ho Joe College type, or simply as a clueless doofus — political cartoonists are finding Barack Obama a more elusive target.

Bush's emotive facial expressions, easy-to-caricature physical features and, most of, all his deeply unpopular political decisions were fodder for liberal-leaning cartoonists. But the cool and detached Obama enters the White House at a time of considerable economic anxiety, bolstered by wishes of goodwill even from some political opponents.

"I had all my villains in place for eight years and they've been taken away," lamented Pulitzer Prize winner Pat Oliphant, one of the most widely syndicated cartoonists. "I don't know that I've ever had this experience before, of a president I maybe like. This is an antagonistic art. We're supposed to concentrate on finding things wrong. There's no point in drawing a cartoon that's favorable."
Oh Pat, don't kid yourself, you found Condi an easy target and didn't even give a damn you were being racist:

Now if Oliphant can conjure up that cartoon of an admirable former provost at Stanford who was the first African-American National Security Advisor and SecState, he sure as hell can come up with something about Obama.

Let's see what he can draw...how about we start with the dudes ears. He's got ears that would make Baby New Year laugh. Take a good look at these wind-catchers:

I mean come on, the guy can hear Nancy Pelosi's face cracking from Nepal with those otic receptacles.

Plus he smokes so that should make it easy. I imagine if Bush smoked, he'd have had a burner in every one of your smirking chimp cartoons.

Perhaps you can call Tony Auth, he can find a way to portray the Jews in a light that shows them as perpetrators of a new Holocaust, I'm sure he can give you some material to use drawing Obama, although he generally only deals in anti-Bush and anti-Semitic motifs. Plus, you can always go after Henry Waxman, if there's anybody who is right out of central casting for an editorial cartoonist, it's him:

So consider this a public service, Pat. You are part of a dying industry that just died a little more thanks to you.

1000-1 Odds Susan Rice Gets Better Press Than Condi Rice

Sphere: Related Content

Condoleeza Rice broke through some serious walls: First Black National Security Advisor and First Black woman to be named Sec State. Add to that Provost at Stanford and the myriad other things she's accomplished, one would have thought she would have been a media darling.

Uh, no. She was ridiculed repeatedly because she is a Republican. Just as Sarah Palin should have been a role model for girls and was incessantly degraded, Condi Rice faced the same thing.

Now with a President-elect who was helped to victory by the media awaiting his inauguration, I will bet that another Rice--Susan Rice--will be the media darling Condi never was:

An ex-National Security Council member and former assistant secretary of state, Susan Rice brings the resume of a Rhodes Scholar-turned-diplomat to the team as she becomes the US face at the United Nations.

The Washington-bred Rice -- no relation to outgoing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice -- served as member of the national security council during the administration of president Bill Clinton.

She worked as a top foreign policy advisor to the campaign of president-elect Barack Obama prior to her latest appointment; indeed despite far-reaching ties to the Clinton administration, she joined Team Obama when Hillary Clinton was widely seen as frontrunner for the Democratic nomination.
Now don't get me wrong, Ms. Rice has excellent credentials and seems like a quality candidate. But you will see adulation of her that will make even liberals blush. Adulation that was not bestowed upon Condi.

Remember these?

And I'm guessing that African-American leaders won't be saying things like this about Ms. Rice like they did about Colin Powell and Condi:

The Newest Obama Non-Scandal

Sphere: Related Content

The Obama camp came out strongly against State Dept. personnel illegally looking into his passport files and Condi Rice took quick action to ensure it doesn't happen again. Just one thing seems to be askew here, not many are reporting the fact that Hillary's and McCain's files were also accessed and the company doing it is owned by...wait for it...an Obama supporter who helps on his campaign.

Shocking, I know.

The article said a focal point of the probe will be an employee who works for The Analysis Corporation and is still with the company. The firm is headed by John O. Brennan, an Obama adviser, FOX News confirms. The Times reported he advises the Democratic presidential candidate on intelligence and foreign policy matters.

The Times reported that the employee at TAC is the only individual who accessed both Obama’s and John McCain’s passport information. TAC decided to honor a State Department request to delay firing the consultant to give investigators time to conduct their investigation, the company said.

Two other contract workers were fired from Stanley Inc. after it was discovered they accessed Obama’s files. It could be challenging for the State Department to force them to answer questions, however. Unless they volunteer to cooperate, they would have to be served with a subpoena compelling them to testify before a grand jury.
I say "investigate away" and take it all the way to the top. What did Brennan know and when did he know it. If I were McCain, I'd make this the biggest campaign issue since Jeremiah Wright. A war hero and sitting Senator had his files illegally accessed by a company headed by one of the top aides of his rivals campaign.

So why will Obama get a pass on this? He's always the victim.
