How Did We Become Vladimir Putin's Bitch?

Sphere: Related Content

Let's look at presidential history through the years, shall we? First we had Harry Truman who understood full-well how evil communism and by extension the Soviet leadership was. He stood up to them where he could including sending our troops to fight a war against their proxies in Korea.

Dwight Eisenhower checked them where he could and the Soviets knew the old warhorse was not one to be trifled with.

Kennedy stared down Kruschev during the Cuban missile crisis and reinforced the standing of America in the world. When their East German proxies built a wall in Berlin, he flew food in.

Johnson fought communism in Vietnam as did Nixon, however Nixon didn't quite have the balls call them out as often as he should have. He settled for some amorphous thing called "detente".

Ford was a lame duck from the beginning and doesn't count.

But Carter does and he was one who believed all the hype about Soviet power. He gutted the intelligence services thus leaving us blind to the fragility of the Soviet scheme. However, when pressed, he stood up to them for the most part.

Reagan? Well we all know that Reagan knew all along they were a house of cards. He tricked them into spending untold billions they didn't have (SDI comes to mind), backed the Mujahideen against them, gave them the finger at Reykjavik, called on Gorbachev to "tear down this wall" and generally made a nuisance of himself whenever it concerned issues Soviet.

George H. W. Bush cheered on Lech Walesa when he rose up in Gdansk, celebrated when the wall came down in Berlin and watched with glee as satellite after satellite broke away and the USSR was reduced to the CIS and then just Russia.

Clinton had it kind of easy trying to usher the new Russia into the democratic and capitalistic world. He didn't back down often.

George W. Bush tried to get friendly with Putin and his butt-buddy Medvedev and generally checked Russians power.

But now we have Nobel Peace Prize winner and the Smartest Guy to Ever Become President in office. He of the mis-translated "reset" button and off the record comments about appeasing Putin when he got in his second term dutifully "transmitted" to Vlad by Medvedev. Obama was the man who was going to change the world just by the force of his sparkling intellect and personality. Except for a few things; he was a community organizer in Chicago (and based on the sad state of that city did a pretty fucking shitty job of it), a state senator who voted present a lot, a senator who took a stand on excatly nothing (or anything he now believes) and has completely fucked up our entire foreign policy (with help from Hillary and Kerry).

His latest foreign policy foray has to do with chemical weapons supposedly dropped by Bashar Assad on his own people but there's no definitive proof. Obama went right to the bomb them from long distance card (learned from the master; Slick Willy). But Congress didn't agree and the world didn;t agree and the American people sure as hell didn;t agree. So Obama joined up with...France. The Bestest President For Ever & Ever couldn't even cobble together a coalition that included Nicaragua and Burkina Faso.

So his great foreign policy led us to the point where bombing were threatened including threats of the genius 'constitutional law professor" plowing ahead without congressional approval. But an off-the-cuff remark by that other liberal genius John Kerry was pounced on by the Russians and now they've not only marginalized Obama but have taken over the role of strong nation in the Middle East. Hell, we are at the point that Putin had an open letter to the American people published in the NY Times (about time a fucking Soviet actually got to put their name on the byline instead of having to use pseudonyms). Putin belittled Obama and called out American exceptionalism. In other words, Putin made Obama and by extension all of the US his bitch.

I don't like being Putin's bitch. I like beating Putin at spycraft and watching as his navy rusts on the shoreline. Instead he's gained back a good amount of power Russia lost when the Soviet Union was swept into the dustbin of history. All because Obama is soft and is hell-bent on making America in the glowing image of 1970's France.

Watch this video of Obama when he thinks he's not on mic. What message do you really think Medvedev "transmitted" to Putin? I'm guessing it's something akin to "damn comrade, if this guy was around in the 80's instead of Reagan, we'd still be the Soviet Union and own half of eastern Europe still.

Thoughts on the SOTU

Sphere: Related Content

We needed leadership and got the exact opposite. We needed Barack Obama to stand up there and tell us what he plans to do to get us out of the economic chasm we are trapped in. Instead we got a wonkish 70-minute speech filled with lies and platitudes. It was a stump speech when we needed a rousing fight speech. We needed Reagan in 1983 or even Clinton in 1994 (who was hyper-partisan but at least sounded mostly presidential) but instead got Carter in every year.

I don't really want to discuss the contents of the speech but want to say what you will never hear anyone in the MSM say: Barack Obama is a public speaker. His cadence is irritating while he has no sense of when to break for applause lines. He drones instead of soaring. My son said he watched an interview and stopped counting at 50 "ums". That from a 13-year old.

The SOTU is not supposed to be a political speech per se but one in which the sitting president explains what he's planing and how it will be accomplished. We got none of that. We got business bashing and class warfare rhetoric when the very same people he slandered are the ones who will get us out of this mess.

The Obama administration is one year in and acts as if they arrived last week. They're a group of amateurs who are winging it and have no sense of what the country is feeling and going through. The only substantive thing uttered by The One was the end of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. The Joint Chiefs seemed to love that.

He had the chance to motivate people and instill hope and instead just added to the malaise.

Spitting Venom

Sphere: Related Content

I'm pissed.

I'm pissed that I haven't had the time to post anything.

I'm pissed that the media spun a monumental electoral shift in New Jersey that was directly attributable to Obama and his policies into a story where it wasn't. I am happy I won't have to look at Corzine's fucking face anymore.

I'm pissed that the Stupak amendment was a big friggin' joke to the Dems and one GOP'er actually was cajoled to vote for the healthcare monstrosity that will forever burden us with heavy debt and poor medical choices.

I'm pissed that the FBI and other arms of the government had information that a Muslim soldier was potentially in contact with our enemies and did nothing resulting in numerous innocent people dead. I'm happy that one brave woman--Sgt. Kimberly Munley (pictured with her kids at right)--took down the terrorist scumbag while heroically putting her life on the line.

I'm pissed that the stimulus bill was passed and we now have 10% unemployment while it resulted in no significant job creation; only the padding of union leader's pockets.

I'm pissed that we have a president who is so insecure that he could not even mention Ronald Reagan when discussing the fall of the Berlin Wall.

I'm f-ing pissed.

More posting later if I can find the damn time.

Saturday Morning News & Notes

Sphere: Related Content

Off to Pace, Florida for the USSSA Baseball World Series with my boy. Exciting times for a 13-year old.

Here's what's new.

-Comparing the cowboy code to the left code. I'll take the cowboy code every single time.

-The Russians aren't too happy about the South Park portrayal of Vlad Putin. Lighten up, Vladimir.

-NY Times writer David Brooks says a GOP senator had "his hand on my inner thigh" during a "whole" dinner party. Er, David, why would you let him leave it there unless of course you liked it, which would make the question moot.

-We are if desperate of another Reagan while the Brits could surely use another Thatcher. Unfortunately, on the US side of the pond we are in short supply of Conservatives save Rick Perry and Sarah Palin.

-DHS sneaking toward open borders. Amnesty and decreased regulatory authority are on the way.

-Obama set to give the "rich" a good soaking. Socialism lives in the US.

-Government Motors making life miserable for private, non-government-owned entities. The administration is seeking to destroy all industry in one way or another.

-Update: It seems as though I'm sensing more buyers remorse than previously. Kilroy seems to be experiencing it but more importantly, he joins the numerous Obama supporters who are realizing the stimulus was a bad idea the way it was constructed.

Obama Throws America Under the Bus

Sphere: Related Content

It's all coming clear now. President Obama truly believe what his wife once said about not being proud of America until now. Liberals scoffed at us when we defended this nation as one of opportunity, freedom and hope versus the idea that America as was a nation that had a great many things to apologize for as espoused by Michelle Obama.

Case in point:

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago -- President Obama endured a 50-minute diatribe from socialist Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega that lashed out at a century of what he called terroristic U.S. aggression in Central America and included a rambling denunciation of the U.S.-imposed isolation of Cuba's Communist government.

Obama sat mostly unmoved during the speech but at times jotted notes. The speech was part of the opening ceremonies at the fifth Summit of the Americas here.

Later, at a photo opportunity with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Obama held his tongue when asked what he thought about Ortega's speech.

...A senior administration official declined to criticize Ortega, saying the president wanted to focus on the future.
And so you have it. A thug socialist leader of a nation that is so poor the citizens leave in droves and trek thousands of miles to sneak into America is telling us that we are terrorists. Nicaragua is a nation that uses torture and violence to sway elections and they are belittling us? Obama sits there and takes it and then doesn't even speak to rebut the slander. Why? Because he agrees with it. America is evil--or was until January 20th of this year.

Obama is on a tour that has taken him from Europe to the Caribbean with the only goal to apologize for America's supposed past misdeeds. The 2009 America Sucks tour is in full-swing and Obama is the star of the show (along with his teleprompter) disparaging a country that allowed him--the son of an African immigrant--to attend an Ivy League university, make millions of dollars and rise to become its most powerful politician.

The shining city upon a hill has always been a ghetto according to Obama and the world is eating it up. They like America as a blubbering, feminized wimp. They are licking their chops to take us down as many pegs as possible and Obama is helping them to do so.

Hope and change my ass.

Update: I neglected to post this earlier:

That picture says more than I ever could. A socialist dictator who has fomented terror who has wished nothing but ill-will to our nation is enjoying a nice moment with the new prez. I want to friggin' puke.

Update: Gateway Pundit (with a spiffy new look) has some thoughts and notes that Obama did "mildly rebuke" Ortega. If someone slams my country the way Ortega did, they'd receive more than a mild rebuke.

Thursday Night News and Notes

Sphere: Related Content

I'm feeling pretty good tonight. Finally the GOP stuck together and gave obama the finger on the anti-stimulus bill. Republicans essentially said to Obama: "You now own this bullshit bill and you, Pelosi and Reid will suffer because of it". Plus, by Obama passing this bill, he effectively cut any lifeline he had connecting Bush to the recession. A good day all around.

Here's some news from around the web:

A great take on global warming alarmism from a San Diego meteorologist.

It may well be time for Royal Dutch Shell to do to the steelworkers what Reagan did to the air traffic controllers.

A recent study yielded some shocking results: the majority of commercials shown during NFL games feature alcohol, sex or erectile dysfunction. Shocking. I for one think they don't show enough sex and am now on record as saying so. I think there should be more hot chicks shown on a more regular basis and then the ED ads will not be needed.

Keeping an eye on Google.

Whither Conservatism?

Sphere: Related Content

There's been much in the media written about the end of the Reagan era and the shift of America from a center-right country to a center-left nation. I'll chalk that up to the usual media bias and the feeling of exultation in the media after the last two ass-kickings we dropped on them when Bush won in 2000 and 2004.

But what of the Republican Party?

We have become a party that has strayed far from our roots--roots rediscovered in 1980 and pushed forward in 1994. The Reaganism of smaller government, lower taxes, a strong military and the idea of America as a beacon in the world for all to aspire to has been replaced with a party that voted for a new entitlement program (prescription drugs for seniors), has made many small fiefdoms through earmarks of federal tax dollars (Ted Stevens) and, in essence, became a clone of the Democratic Party. They all fed at the trough and ushered in what we now have--a far left President--elect.

It's hig time for some serious soul searching by our elected men and women of the GOP. Are we a party of bridges to nowhere and greedy lobbyists or a party of smaller government, lower tax rates and freedom? I choose the latter and it was those basic tenets that were the hallmarks of Reaganism.

When George W. Bush was elected the White House, I was leery, just what the hell was "compassionate conservatism"? But then he immediately lowered taxes and we pulled out of a recession. He was brilliant after 9/11 and saw that the War on Terror was not going to be won in Afghanistan but in Karbala and Fallujah and Basra. Freeing a Muslim nation from tyranny sent a message that we were serious.

But then his conservative became what was defined as "compassionate conservatism". Prescription Drugs for Seniors was the largest entitlement program signed into law in decades. Bill Clinton reformed welfare (albeit with a knife at his throat held by Newt Gingrich) and W. gave us an entitlement program guaranteed to cripple us for years. He let the deficit balloon to heretofore unseen heights and got a majority Democratic House and Senate for it. He strayed far off the Reagan ranch and into LBJ territory.

So here we are and what can be done?

For starters, let's continue electing men and women like Sarah Palin and Mitch McConnell and stop electing the likes Don Young, Randy Cunningham and Tom DeLay. Let's elect true conservatives who will hold the line on spending and ensure that freedom is the number one priority. That freedom includes the right to speak, write and say what one wishes, have the right to dictate what you do with your money and not the state and the right to live your life according to how it was envisioned by our Founding Fathers and not by the likes of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

We need to get back to our roots and remake the party into what it was before the greedy, thieving bastards of the last ten years took it over. Conservatism works and it will win again whether it be two, four or ten years out.

Hell, you shouldn't have read me and should've just listened to 'Zo. Amen my brother...er, except for the Huckabee stuff.

Via AP who notes that Fox News should make some space for this guy. He speaks conservative instead of the usual gutter Republican that people like Bill O'Reilly and most of the guests on the channel do:

The NY Post has a few laughs at liberals over their hypocrisy on drilling for domestic oil.

Obama contemplating channeling JFK and Reagan by speaking at the Brandenburg Gate. As soft as Obama is, he might as well say "Mr. Putin, put up this wall!"

The Brits still bringing a knife to what should be a gun fight. But hey, at least dirty little bomb-sniffing mutts will be properly equipped when searching the homes of Muslims.

Dicky Durbin blames the GOP for the failures of the Democrat-led House and Senate. Not that anyone really cares what Durbin says but I wanted to point what absolute whining pussies the Dems are.

Proving once again that pitching is everything in baseball, the Phillies signed closer Brad Lidge to a 3-year $37.5-million contract. happy days for the Lidge family. In other baseball news, the All Star teams will be announced today with Phillies 2nd baseman Chase Utley expected to be the high vote getter and the possible inclusion of Lidge, Cole Hamels and Pat Burrell.

Sarkozy Wins Over Unions

Sphere: Related Content

There was an earthquake earlier this week in Europe. It was not one that shook the ground but one that shook long-established traditions.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy took on the vaunted French unions and won through righteous resolve. He knew that it was a battle that had he lost, he would effectively have lost momentum and credibility. Instead, he stared them down and in doing so may have saved the French economy and their standing as a world power.

The French have been mired in a stagnant economy for quite a while as the rest of Europe, led by Ireland, has flourished. 35-hour work weeks and numerous vacation days had the result of sinking production, efficiency and output thus reducing French economic power in the EU and around the world. Under Chirac, the French lost support of the American citizen and those of the continent. In fact, French credibility was so reduced as to be insignificant as shown by the EU Constitution going down in flames.

Sarkozy has done several things that will benefit his nation long-term: first he reconciled with the US. Years of Chirac had led to diplomatic hostility and harmed relations on all fronts (see the French wine industry as exhibit A). Next, he reiterated his support of NATO. Now he went after the biggest domestic problem for the French, the unions and the firm grip they had on the nation.

Investors Business Daily sums it up thusly:

On Friday, Sarkozy vowed to go ahead with economic reforms that may help end France's long economic slide into irrelevance. "I have no intention to stop the reform movement, no intention to slow it down, no intention to forget my promises," he said. "I made commitments. They will be kept."

Those phrases echo those made by both Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher when they faced similar union-made problems — in Reagan's case, with air traffic controllers; in Thatcher's, with the Marxist-led coal miners. Both stuck to their guns and won. Now Sarko's done the same.

No longer, he told the transport and energy unions, could their members expect to retire on full pensions at age 55 — and in some cases as early as 53. Instead, they must put in a full 40 years.

Contrast that with Sarkozy's predecessor, Jacques Chirac. During his presidency, the unions routinely got their way — especially in 1995, when they virtually shut down the economy with strikes over basically the same pension issues.
Comparisons with Reagan and Thatcher--high praise indeed.

I'm not well-informed on Thatcher and the coal miners, but Reagan changed the way the federal government operates when he booted the air traffic controllers. Bush could have had his Reaganesque moment if he had the nerve to stand up for Social Security reform. He failed miserably in that skirmish.

Let's hope Sarkozy continues to make the necessary changes as we need allies that are not only strong militarily but strong economically as well.
