When Did America Become a Land of Pussies?

I was watching a history channel show about the home front during WWII. There was very little of everything because we came together and put all of our resources into beating back national socialism and the rising sun. People didn't bitch and complain, they accepted that it was all for the better and that we would be a stronger nation if we suffered through the war years. I won't even mention the men and women who were in theater and battled the enemy back mile by bloody mile.

How did we go from a nation that could steel its spine for the greater good to a nation of complete pussies?

Just look around you today, you'll see it everywhere: from laws on soft drinks and fattening foods to elimination of dodge ball in gym class, we have taken a nation forged by hard men and women and made it into a latte-sipping, metrosexualized place where the slightest un-PC thing is grounds for a lawsuit.

I'm pretty much the least PC guy I know and still I find myself stopping short of saying what I want to because it would be misconstrued and I'd be labeled a bigot, homophobe, misogynist or other "ist". Example: when I read that Chris Rock said that Obama was the "father of the country", my first thought was written and then erased.


Anyway, we've become a nation that can't even laugh at itself anymore. Racial humor has been around as long as we have and I for one find it humorous when comedians pick on white people. However, I can not, ever do the same when it comes to latinos or blacks. But I digress.


People who are not pussies take the right path even though it's almost always the more difficult one. Pussies take the easy way, all the time. Knock your girlfriend up? Abort the baby or just ignore it. Lose your job because your performance sucked or you just couldn't make it on time? Sue the company and collect unemployment for 100 weeks and when that runs out, sue for disability over some phantom illness. Your kid acts like an asshole and gets his ass kicked because of it? Complain to the school and sue the parents of the kid who whooped your sons ass all over the schoolyard.


The WSJ has a piece today on the "wimpification" of America and notes that Obama would not allow his son to play football if he had one. This is just another example and one that shows we are being led by an administration that personifies the pussification of the US. We have a president that voted "present" on numerous important bills and who didn't have the balls to accept responsibility for the bin-Laden raid until it was over and successful and later allowed four Americans to die in Benghazi while he was out doing something that was evidently more important.


Until we get back the swaggering, bad ass American ethos personified during the Reagan years and post 9/11, we will continue to ebb in the eyes of the world and our enemies are watching us closely to see what direction we are heading.

Obama Has Succeeded in Making Us a Socialist State

Obama promised that he would institute his far left policies and the majority of voters got caught up in his propaganda. Some weren't fooled and wrote about it on a daily basis.

Obama knew exactly how he had to proceed; he knew that once people got wise to his game, they would be appalled. When they showed resistance, he rammed his agenda through. The public is hip to the game and are poised to rectify the huge mistake they made as soon as possible, which means November.

Alas, it's too late. He's succeeded in ways that Carter, Clinton, LBJ and FDR could only have dreamed of. He's made a huge swath of the country dependent on handouts and dependent on The State:

WASHINGTON — Government anti-poverty programs that have grown to meet the needs of recession victims now serve a record one in six Americans and are continuing to expand.

More than 50 million Americans are on Medicaid, the federal-state program aimed principally at the poor, a survey of state data by USA TODAY shows. That's up at least 17% since the recession began in December 2007.

Note the first line, "victims" is how the media phrase it and how Obama implemented it. Liberals thrive on supposed victimhood whether it be "victims" of "big business", those who sell cigarettes and junk food or any other non-government entity. The simple fact that government policies have made these people victims either escapes the reporter or, more likely, is conveniently not commented upon.

We now have one out of every six of our countrymen addicted to government handouts and the rest of us are forced to pay for them.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm all about helping someone when they are down but what we've just seen put into play by Obama is no different then what drug dealers do. They give a taste and then just a little more; pretty soon, you are relying on what they are pushing. Come on man, just a little more, just another 26-weeks of unemployment and I'll get straight and get off the dole. But instead one ends up living life on welfare, unending unemployment, food stamps and government blocks of cheese. You can't have that gravy train end so you vote Democrat so you can keep the trip going.

Note this:

I want to focus here on another dimension of the Obama administration's policies: the expansion of unemployment-insurance eligibility to as much as 99 weeks from the standard 26 weeks.

The unemployment-insurance program involves a balance between compassion—providing for persons temporarily without work—and efficiency. The loss in efficiency results partly because the program subsidizes unemployment, causing insufficient job-search, job-acceptance and levels of employment. A further inefficiency

...These numbers provide a stark contrast with joblessness today. The peak unemployment rate of 10.1% in October 2009 corresponded to a mean duration of unemployment of 27.2 weeks and a share of long-term unemployment of 36%. The duration of unemployment peaked (thus far) at 35.2 weeks in June 2010, when the share of long-term unemployment in the total reached a remarkable 46.2%. These numbers are way above the ceilings of 21 weeks and 25% share applicable to previous post-World War II recessions. The dramatic expansion of unemployment-insurance eligibility to 99 weeks is almost surely the culprit.

To get a rough quantitative estimate of the implications for the unemployment rate, suppose that the expansion of unemployment-insurance coverage to 99 weeks had not occurred and—I assume—the share of long-term unemployment had equaled the peak value of 24.5% observed in July 1983. Then, if the number of unemployed 26 weeks or less in June 2010 had still equaled the observed value of 7.9 million, the total number of unemployed would have been 10.4 million rather than 14.6 million. If the labor force still equaled the observed value (153.7 million), the unemployment rate would have been 6.8% rather than 9.5%.

The evidence is clear, extending unemployment or any benefits results in the reduced will to work and prolongs the economic agony. People have grown used to the "new normal" in which the Obama administration has produced an America where people just stop paying their mortgages, squat in the house they probably couldn't afford in the first place until they get evicted and then rent a place they can handle on their unemployment stipend they know isn't going to run out as long as the Dems rule everything. Why take a job at Home Depot when you get the same from the government.

But then, the government doesn't get money from unemployment checks. Instead, those of us who are working carry the load until more and more people grow comfortable with living off Uncle Sam's largess and then all of a sudden it's half of us paying for the other half. It's a spiral that's not only wrong but inherently un-American...which was Obama's goal anyway.

Rest in Peace Lance Corporal Jeremy Kane

Jeremy Kane lived one town away from me. I never met him but I feel like I knew him. Jeremy Kane is no longer with us but he is one of my heroes:

At 13, Jeremy Kane was deeply affected by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in 2001. The event shaped his life, and led him to a fateful choice.

"He knew he had to do something for his country, and that was join the military," said his mother, Melinda, of Cherry Hill. "He wanted to serve."

To drive home the point, Kane joined the Marine Corps on Sept. 11, 2006, during his freshman year at Rutgers University and served as a reservist.

On Saturday, three months into his deployment in Afghanistan, the 22-year-old lance corporal was killed when a suicide bomber attacked his unit in Helmand Province.

This hits home because my own son is 13. What if 9/11 had occurred today and he had to experience the tension, horror and disbelief we all did that day? Jeremy Kane was affected and that affectation lasted to the point where he joined the Marines. He didn't have to, he wanted to because he thought it was the right thing to do for his country. I did the same and can understand what he felt.

Mr. Kane's father was a pathologist and he went to a good high school and college. He could've have let someone else join and could have rationalized it a million different ways. He chose not to let someone else fight but to do it himself.

I leave you with the words of his mother:

"I want people to know that this was someone from Cherry Hill," she said. "He had options, and this was his choice.

And thank God for people like him. Yes, he's one of thousands who have pay the ultimate price to defend our freedom and they are all heroes. Mr. Kane knew the risks and enlisted anyway because he's a true American who knew what this nation is about and it's about people like him defending people who don't.

Obama: World Loves Us Again Because of Me

America has always been thought of as exceptional. When Europe was ablaze and a dictator was destroying everything in his path, we entered the fray and brought Hitler to his knees and his demise. After the war we fought the Soviet scourge for four decades and eventually toppled the ideology that killed millions and spread misery all over the planet.

Most people admired America for our military, our unstoppable economy and our pride in the Great Melting Pot. They also were jealous of us and worked against our best interests constantly yet, every time they got in trouble the first call they made was to us and we responded.

Many around the world wanted us cut down to size because they hated the fact that we were the sole surviving superpower. American liberals must be ecstatic as they've prayed for us to be taken down a peg since the first Gulf War. Their collective dream has been realized. Even if they don't get socialized medicine and cap and trade, they'll always have the vision of us as a second-class power to look back on in their old age.

They finally got their wish as Obama not only has lowered our standing in the world but is as proud as a two-year old who just took their first dump on the potty:

Beijing, China (CNN) -- A little more than a year after his election, President Obama said his administration has laid the groundwork for success on global and domestic matters.

"I think that we've restored America's standing in the world, and that's confirmed by polls," he told CNN's Ed Henry in a wide-ranging interview this week during his trip to China.

"I think a recent one indicated that around the world, before my election, less than half the people -- maybe less than 40 percent of the people -- thought that you could count on America to do to the right thing. Now it's up to 75 percent."

Yeah us, the world loves us again. Especially Vlad Putin who got Obama to give the finger to ally Poland and remove the missile shield or how about Ahmadinejad who is playing us like a yokel from Cedar Rapids visiting NYC for his first time? Or the Chinese who now not only own us but can lead us around like a puppy dog.

Obama must have missed the day they taught Teddy Roosevelt in history. Instead of walking softly and carrying a big stick, it's more like tip-toeing slowly and bowing to everyone. God, I can't wait until 2012.

Celebrating Independence Day

Tomorrow we celebrate that most American of holidays. It was 233-years ago that forward-thinking men threw off the shackles of tyranny and declared themselves and our new nation free. A few more years of war would settle the deal but this was a shot in the arm for the colonial army at a time it needed it. The Declaration of Independence solidified our reasoning and put us on a path of no return.

It was great men who fought for our freedom; George Washington being the most famous. But other men deserve recognition and I wish to provide that this morning.

Daniel Morgan:
Born in New Jersey and raised in Virginia, Morgan was a frontiersman and lifelong warrior. He gained some measure of renown in the French & Indian War before showing how good of a commander he was during the revolutionary war. He saved "Granny" Gates at the 2nd Battle of Saratoga and forced a surrender by British leader Burgoyne.

He showed his true ability to lead an army at the battle at Cowpens. He implemented a battle strategy so brilliant he beat the hated British Lt. Col. Tarleton. The battle was won and the course of the war was changed forever.

Nathaneal Greene:
Greene was a self-taught military man and effective leader. He knew who to promote, who to trust and how to keep British General Cornwallis chasing shadows throughout the South.

It was a bold move for Washington to promote and give Greene the responsibilities he did. He was repaid with a good General and an even better confidante.

Henry Knox:
Knox, from Boston scored the single-greatest coup in my opinion of the war. He led a group of men to Fort Ticonderoga and slogged through rough weather and tough paths to Boston with an arsenal of British weapons that the continentals had captured. This move forced the Brits to quit Boston and gave the city back to the Americans--a significant victory and one that bolstered early hopes.

I recommend several books if you want to read more about these great men and others who fought for the cause.

-Jeff Shaara's The Glorious Cause is my favorite and well worth your time this summer.


-David McCullough's 1776 id another good read although I was more intrigued by Shaara's character development.

-A Short History of the American Revolution by James Stokebury is an excellent book that covers the important events in a terse yet surprisingly entertaining manner.

Obama Throws America Under the Bus

It's all coming clear now. President Obama truly believe what his wife once said about not being proud of America until now. Liberals scoffed at us when we defended this nation as one of opportunity, freedom and hope versus the idea that America as was a nation that had a great many things to apologize for as espoused by Michelle Obama.

Case in point:

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago -- President Obama endured a 50-minute diatribe from socialist Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega that lashed out at a century of what he called terroristic U.S. aggression in Central America and included a rambling denunciation of the U.S.-imposed isolation of Cuba's Communist government.

Obama sat mostly unmoved during the speech but at times jotted notes. The speech was part of the opening ceremonies at the fifth Summit of the Americas here.

Later, at a photo opportunity with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Obama held his tongue when asked what he thought about Ortega's speech.

...A senior administration official declined to criticize Ortega, saying the president wanted to focus on the future.

And so you have it. A thug socialist leader of a nation that is so poor the citizens leave in droves and trek thousands of miles to sneak into America is telling us that we are terrorists. Nicaragua is a nation that uses torture and violence to sway elections and they are belittling us? Obama sits there and takes it and then doesn't even speak to rebut the slander. Why? Because he agrees with it. America is evil--or was until January 20th of this year.

Obama is on a tour that has taken him from Europe to the Caribbean with the only goal to apologize for America's supposed past misdeeds. The 2009 America Sucks tour is in full-swing and Obama is the star of the show (along with his teleprompter) disparaging a country that allowed him--the son of an African immigrant--to attend an Ivy League university, make millions of dollars and rise to become its most powerful politician.

The shining city upon a hill has always been a ghetto according to Obama and the world is eating it up. They like America as a blubbering, feminized wimp. They are licking their chops to take us down as many pegs as possible and Obama is helping them to do so.

Hope and change my ass.

Update: Gateway Pundit (with a spiffy new look) has some thoughts and notes that Obama did "mildly rebuke" Ortega. If someone slams my country the way Ortega did, they'd receive more than a mild rebuke.

A Small Town Fourth of July

Yesterday was an Independence Day that should be a model for all towns.

For the first time in twenty years, we had a traditional parade down Main St that included representatives from the local sports teams (I walked with my daughter as a coach), marching bands, church groups, cub scouts and others.

More importantly, it included many active-duty military and veterans. Thousands lined the route and it was amazing to see representatives of the four major military branches walk amidst the flags and music. How many young people saw the men in their camouflage or the Marines in their dress uniforms and said that they wanted to wear those uniforms one day (liberals are cringing about this point)?

The new mayor pushed hard to bring the parade back and he deserves a ton of credit for putting it together. For the record, he's a Democrat in a town that had a pseudo-Republican in office for over a decade.

At night, they had a salute to veterans event where parachutist's from the Army dropped into the field where we later watched the best fireworks show I've ever seen.

All in all a great day with much food and Sam Adams' imbibed. A day where the greatness of America was celebrated and veterans were given the kind of cheering reception they deserve. The only irritation was two yahoos wearing Greenpeace shirts with a Stop Global Warming sign but they were essentially ignored. I'd have had a few words with them but, alas, I was marching with my daughter at the time.

What Independence Day Really Means

232 years ago, brave men made a decision to lay their lives on the line for a common cause, a cause so great they risked everything.

Men like John Hancock who was a well-off business owner. He was so despised by the British that a proclamation offering amnesty to those who pledged allegiance to the crowd specifically excluded him and another great patriot Samuel Adams.

Men like Benjamin Franklin who by 1776 was an internationally known celebrity. He signed on to what proved to be his greatest experiment.

Men like a Virginia gentleman named George Washington who left his wife and farm to lead a rag-tag band of volunteers against the greatest army the world had yet seen.

Men like Nathanael Greene who battled British general Cornwallis throughout the South trading temporary losses for ultimate victory.

Men like Henry Knox who was an integral part of Washington's crossing of the Delaware and defeat of the Hessian's at Trenton.

Men like John Glover who led what was to become my beloved US Navy. He gave a schooner to the cause that was used to raid British shipping. Glover saved the war cause on several occasions.

I ask, do we have men like this today? Would Barack Obama sign his name to a document that would effectively put a price on his head and lead to his hanging? Would Lindsey Graham give up a life of luxury and fight for the ideal of freedom? Would Bill Gates defend the nation that has made him one of the wealthiest men in the world? Would Bill Clinton risk his life by supporting a cause greater than anyone?

There are but a few who would sacrifice everything and you can tell who they are because they have already done so. Men and woman who've opted for the meager pay and danger of serving in our military. Men like John McCain who was sentenced to five years of hell in a rancid prison. Men like former Senator Robert Dole and JFK. Men who risked their lives so that we could remain free.

A Brit--Sir Winston Churchill--who had the spirit of America in him said: "We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm."

Those men who gave up everything so that we may celebrate nearly two and a half centuries later deserve to be remembered so hoist a cold one to these great men and women who gave us the ultimate gift...America.
