Officer Daniel Faulkner was shot by Mumia Abu Jamal in December, 1981. He was convicted by a jury and sentenced to death. I linked to this story of the despicable actions of the Street administration with regard to visiting french politicians who gleefully told of how they named a street in Jamal's honor.
I feel sick everytime I hear anyone defending this murdering thug. Former celebrity types such as Ed Asner, Tom Morello-- formerly of Rage Against the Machine and currently with Audioslave-- and others have taken the side of Mumia. If it effects me so much to have this dredged up, what must it feel like to his widow, Maureen?
Please take time to research the case against Jamal. It is airtight and has withstood scrutiny from every direction.
I propose that every blogger who reads this post link to this website and read the the details of the case, it will be crystal clear that Mumia Abu Jamal is the man who murdered Daniel Faulkner.
Michelle Malkin has already linked and I hope this gets much wider play in the blogosphere.
Philly radio talkshow host Michael Smerconish has been the hammer against Jamal for a long time. You can read his page here and link at the bottom to Danny Faulkner info.
Update: Maureen Faulkner was interviewed by Michael Smerconish yesterday and she said that Mayor Street apologized and said that he knew Mumia Abu Jamal was guilty of murder. In his official statement however, he was less certain.
Mayor Street’s spokesman, Daniel Fee (sp?) was interviewed by Smerconish this morning and said that the French were given the miniature Liberty Bells because they were giving a gift to the mayor, a crystal or glass object, and were only accorded the honor of being seen in the City Hall anteroom near the mayor’s office because it was a “crowd control” situation.
Later in the program, Pam Africa, of the far left-wing back-to-nature group MOVE, called the show and said the whole affair, including the inclusion of socialist groups, was pre-planned and organized by her. She further said that Mayor Street would never admit that Mumia was guilty. MOVE has supported Jamal for years.
More later when time allows.
Update: For those who want to know more about MOVE, click the link above. They have quite a history in Philly, they were ousted once by Mayor Frank Rizzo in an assault where Officer James Ramp died (sadly, I could not find a website dedicated to his memory). In the city's second confrontation with the group, Mayor W. Wilson Goode dropped an incendiary device on a rooftop bunker that caused the death of MOVE members, including women and children, and the loss of 61 Osage Ave. homes. 2 members of MOVE survived.
Here is the MOVE Commission's report.
This is a ton of information and I went off on a tangent about MOVE because of Pam Africa being on Mike Smerconish's show today. The point of this whole exercise was to explain that this is a wound in Philly and the scab is pulled off repeatedly. We have to get the true story out and stop the egregious assault on the memory of a dead cop and end the suffering of his widow.
Update: Thanks to Jack, Susan, The Watcher, Hubes Cube and Captain Ed ( who was hospiblogging) for linking and doing everything possible to get this story out. The Ombudsgod has a quiz.

Exposing Mumia Abu Jamal
Sphere: Related ContentThe international Left took up the convicted killers cause and made the man a living martyr and fabricated lies to push their anti-capital punishment agenda. Hollywood celebrities supported the man and rock bands played concerts for him. He was asked to speak at graduation ceremonies from behind bars.
Now, the woman who had to absorb the death of her husband of a year and the grief associated with that also had to watch as Mumia Abu Jamal was exulted while her husband was gone.
With the assistance of lawyer and local talk show host Michael Smerconish, Maureen Faulkner is telling her side: the pain, the frustration and the absence of any finality. NBC excerpts a chapter describing the moment she realized she was a now a widow here.
I've yet to read the book as today is the release date but I will buy it today and encourage anyone who is horrified that the French named a street after a convicted cop killer to please buy this book. Let's really and truly finish this and expose Mumia and those slobbering idiots who support his cause as the scandalous low-live's they truly are. The Ed Asner's and Mike Farrell's of the world must be called on the carpet for their actions and I hope with this book they really and truly are.
This book is not a get rich scheme scribbled out to make a buck like the Valerie Plame book. No friends, unlike the aforementioned Plame and her scumbag husband, Maureen Faulkner truly has suffered and it made her stronger. All proceeds from the book will go to scholarships for kids who've lost a parent to violence (Smerconish details the program here.). The only place the proceeds from Plame's inane screed are going is in Joe and Valerie's bank account.
Please, go to Barnes and Noble, Amazon or Borders and buy the book Murdered by Mumia and show that Danny Faulkner did not die in vain. Mumia Abu Jamal aimed his weapon at Officer Faulkner and killed him in cold blood. The trial transcripts bear this out as does the rest of the evidence. This is the time--26 years later--to expose Jamal as the simple, wretched murderer that he really is.

Mumia to Rot In Cell Instead of Hell
Sphere: Related ContentA federal appeals court today refused to reinstate the death sentence of world-famous death row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal, but left intact his murder conviction in the 1981 shooting death of Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner. That's a win, he was never going to be executed anyway so the simple fact is that he will continue to live his fetid little life in a prison cell where he belongs.
A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit ruled that Abu-Jamal must be sentenced to life in prison or get a chance with a new Philadelphia jury, which would decide only whether he should get life in prison or be sentenced - again - to death.
The judges left intact his first-degree murder conviction, rejecting Abu-Jamal's claim that he deserves an entirely new trial and a chance to prove his innocence.
His loser lawyers argued that he was convicted because of a racist jury, a charge that has been debunked numerous times.
Here's me favorite part though:
Other Abu-Jamal supporters were unhappy with the ruling. They said rallies were being planned for as early as tomorrow outside federal courthouses in Philadelphia, New York and San Francisco.Who exactly did Pam Africa associate with? How about a group that killed Officer James Ramp (who died under heroic circumstances) and was at the center of a case in which a Philly Mayor dropped a bomb on his own city destroying scores of homes. She's a zealot and is one step away from a terrorist. She's also a scumbag who has made a living out of the Mumia case and is never too far from scamming funds in support of the vile cop-killer. She's also part of a group that is widely-believed to have murdered one who crossed them.
"This was no victory, in any sense of the word," said Pam Africa, a member of the radical group MOVE.
"Today's decision is a travesty of justice," said Jeff Mackler, of Mobilization to Free Mumia Abu-Jamal. He said he had been hoping that the Third Circuit would order an entirely new trial based on the claim about racial discrimination in jury selection.Sounds like a threat of terror to me. What would be the reactions subsequent to tomorrow Mr. Mackler? It sound even more threatening considering your past, which included running for Senate as a hard-core socialist (the only thing I hate more than a murderer supporter is a socialist murderer supporter) . Maybe you can rally the French populace who are more known for turning on their own country than fighting those who take it over. We can call them the Vichy Jamal Group if you wish.
Mackler said he anticipates worldwide reaction to the disappointing decision. "Tomorrow is just an initial reaction," he said.

Remembering Daniel Faulkner
Sphere: Related Content
25-years ago today, Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner was murdered in cold blood by Mumia Abu Jamal. Jamal was tried and convicted, has had numerous appeals and was given the death sentence. He still sits on death row.
Jamal's case has been a cause celebre for the left-wing of this country and in France. The facts must be made clear so that Officer Faulkner's widow Maureen can get some closure.
I urge you, on this day especially, to go to the Daniel Faulkner website and read the details of this case. Some of the best legal minds in the nation have looked at the evidence and reviewed court documents and no one with a iota of grey matter can believe that Abu Jamal was innocent. Unfortunately, the sick minds of Danny Glover and Ed Asner, as well as the morally bankrupt French will not learn the facts and continue to praise Jamal as a political prisoner.
Please take a few minutes to learn the truth.
Start here with the case facts and move to the map of the scene and the myths surrounding the case. Here is the myth that needs to be busted; that Jamal is a political prisoner:
Mumia Abu-Jamal was sentenced to death by a jury that heard the monumental amount of evidence pointing to his guilt as a remorseless murderer. It was Mumia Abu-Jamal, not the judge or the prosecutor, who openly and frequently chose to proclaim his political ideology before the jury. The record verifies that there
was not a single occasion during the trial in which any reference to Jamal's political ideology was made by the prosecutor or the judge. It was not until the sentencing phase of the trial, after Jamal had already been convicted, that prosecutor Joe McGill addressed, for the first and only time, what Jamal chooses to describe as statements of his "political ideology." In response to character witnesses who said that Jamal was a "peaceful man" and that violence was alien to his nature, the prosecutor asked Jamal if he had written that "All political power grows from the barrel of a gun." The prosecutor's questions went to Jamal's violent nature, not his political ideology.
It is clear to anyone who reads the trial record that the basis for Jamal's sentence was not his politics. Mumia Abu-Jamal was sentenced to death for a violent, cowardly and premeditated act of murder.
Kateys Kafe has an excellent post and she is an adamant supporter of justice for Danny I also shamelessly borrowed the picture below from her site.
The looneys are all joining together today to commemorate the date that their hero murdered a Philly cop. The guest of honor is Ward Churchill and they are also rallying for terrorist abettor Lynne Stewart.
And finally, to this a-hole from Canada, I have two words: fuck you. Stay out of our business.
Update: I neglected to link this video by Michelle Malkin talking about Jamal and Justice for Danny Faulkner.

Reason #467,890,067 To Hate the French
Sphere: Related Content
Just when you start feeling a bit sorry for France (sky-high unemployment, the little Muslim "youth" problem and the fact the people were born into the French culture), they go and do something like this:
As Philadelphians cope with another police slaying, news comes that a suburb of Paris has named a street for Mumia Abu-Jamal, convicted of the 1981 murder of Police Officer Daniel Faulkner.
Hundreds of supporters of Abu-Jamal attended a ceremony on April 29 to dedicate the Rue Mumia-Abu Jamal in the city of St.-Denis.
"In France, they see him as a towering figure," said Suzanne Ross, cochair of the Free Mumia Coalition of New York City, who was part of the ceremony.
Ross said the street is in the town's Human Rights district, which includes Nelson Mandela Stadium.
Richard Costello, past president of the Philadelphia lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, said the street dedication was "deplorable" but "consistent with the offensive position the French have taken in this matter. They've made him into some type of hero."
For the 1,500th time, Mumia Abu Jamal shot Danny Faulkner in cold blood at the age of 25. He was convicted and sent away for life.
Read about Danny Faulkner and Jamal's complicity in the murder here and say another prayer for his wife Maureen as this is more insult to injury:
"This is so unnerving for me to get this news," Faulkner said from Los Angeles, where she lives. "It's insulting to the police officers of Philadelphia that they are naming a street after a murderer."
But, but...Jamal is Mandela-like:
The campaign to free Abu-Jamal has generated international attention, particularly among anti-death-penalty activists in France. At the dedication ceremony, Julia Wright, a translator in Paris and daughter of the late African American author Richard Wright, called Abu-Jamal "our Mandela."
Yeah, maybe Winnie Mandela.

The Inspirational Mumia
Sphere: Related ContentThe indispensible Indymedia Watch e-mailed to alert me to this story of domestic terrorist Jeff Luers. Jeff is a really nice gfuy who decided that it was a good idea to burn 3 SUV's to defend the earth from evil gas guzzlers. He was sentenced to 22-years for his crime.
His supporters call him a political prisoner, the Watcher has other ideas:
Bloggers in Iranian prisons are political prisoners. Dissidents in China are political prisoners. Idiots that set fire to things are not political prisoners and calling them as such is an insult to people who genuinely did nothing wrong except think. Sadly, it was the lack of thinking which got him into prison in the first place. Maybe Luers can think about it now (perhaps in the showerblock).
Well said. This weekend however, "social justice activists from across the world" will mark a special day with special speeches from special people. Among the derelicts will be convicted (and upheld on numerous appeals) cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal. Mumia killed Officer Daniel Faulkner on a darkened street in Center City Philadelphia and has claimed he is a political prisoner ever since.
More background on Danny Faulkner's murder here. Previous posts by me on this subject here, here and here.
In related Philly news, the former Birdie Africa is having a movie made of his life. An amazing story.

Hopefully He Never Sees 52
Sphere: Related ContentIt's a beautiful Spring Sunday in April, where would you expect to see traitor and convicted terrorist enabler Lynne Stewart? At a Mumia Abu Jamal birthday rally, of course.
You gotta love it, look at the list of those appearing; the NAACP, members of the National Lawyers Guild and a rep from the Frisco Board of Supervisors.
To find out what really happened the night Mumia murdered Officer Daniel Faulkner, click here.
Mumia is guilty and his conviction has been upheld numerous times. Please read the story that I've linked to and learn the true facts of the case. A young officer was murdered in cold blood and left to die in the middle of the street.
Major thanks to the Watcher for dredging the sewers that are Indy Media and forwarding this on to me. His site is a daily read and it should be for you also.
If you wish to show your disdain for these pieces of shit, you can send your thoughts to the organizer of this collection of scumbags: jmackler@locrian.com

Mumia Abu-Jamal Still Guilty as Hell
Sphere: Related Content
The Supreme Court has decided not to grant a new trial for the man who murdered Philly police officer Daniel Faulkner in 1981:
The Supreme Court said Monday it will not take up Abu-Jamal's claims that prosecutors improperly excluded blacks from the jury that convicted him of murdering Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner. The French will think us so barbaric as they named a street after the scumbag. Well, maybe Obama can apologize for this too since his whole trip has been putting down America and praising the Europeans anyway.
The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia upheld Abu-Jamal's conviction but held his death sentence invalid. The appeals court said it would not second-guess state court rulings rejecting Abu-Jamal's claims of bias in the composition of the jury.
The high court considered only the conviction. The state has separately asked the court to reinstate the death sentence, but the justices have not acted on that request.
Mumia deserves to fry and the sooner the better. His cold-blooded shooting of Danny Faulkner was cowardly but the international attention and support he has received by lefty idiots like Mike Farrell, Harry Belafonte and Ed Asner has been downright repulsive.
This is a battle that has been going on for far too long and has too end soon. For the sake of Maureen Faulkner--Danny's widow--I hope it does.
Background on the case here. Bio on Danny here. Ed and PJ-Wearing Fool have more.

The New Mumia
Sphere: Related ContentSeitelplasm has a good post on Hollywood's love affair with convicted murderers:
Well, given Jamal’s death sentence commutation and Hollywood’s short attention span, it was only a matter of time before they found another murderer to glorify. This time, his name is Stanley Williams, founder of the Crips (a violent gang in LA). Williams killed four people, including a family of Taiwanese immigrants. After shooting one of his victims, he reportedly laughed at the gurgling sounds said victim was making. He’s never once apologized to the families of his victims. On death row since 1981, his execution is finally scheduled for Dec. 13; a clemency hearing with the Governator is scheduled for Dec. 8.
So why all the fuss? Well, Williams, you see, is a “new man.” He’s used his time in prison to write children’s books and speak out against gangs (while refusing to renounce his own membership). Hell, he’s even been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, as if it has anything to do with “peace” anymore (see recipient Yasser Arafat, father of modern terrorism). All of this, say his supporters (including Snoop Dogg, Tim Robbins, and again, Susan Sarandon), makes it incumbent upon Governor Schwarzenegger to commute his death sentence.
OK, Hollywood, I get it. You and the looney left are outraged about this execution. As usual, however, you have it backwards. This man killed four people, and had the gall to laugh about it. I don’t care how many children’s books you write or Nobel prizes you win, nothing excuses that.
The man murdered immigrants in cold blood, just as Mumia Abu Jamal murdered Officer Danny Faulkner on a cold Philly street. I guess it soothes their "Limousine Liberal" psyche's to aid in the commutation of this scumbag's sentence.
Here's a description of the murders via Wikipedia:
Williams was convicted of murdering Albert Owens, Thsai-Shai Yang, Yen-I Yang, and Yee Chen Lin in 1979 during two separate robberies.
The murder of Albert Owens occurred February 28, 1979 at a 7-11 Market on Whittier Blvd in Pico Rivera, California. According to the prosecution, during the robbery, Williams shot Owens in the back of the head, execution style. According to an accomplice, when asked why he had shot Owens, Williams explained that he didn't want to leave any witnesses. The accomplice also testified that Williams said he killed Owens "because [Owens] was white and [Williams] was killing all white people."
Three members of the Yang family were allegedly murdered by Williams on March 11, 1979. The Yang family, who were immigrants from Taiwan, included husband Yen-Yi Yang, 67 years old. The wife, Tsai-Shen Yang, was 63 years old. One of their children, Ye-Chen Lin, 43, had recently joined them from Taiwan. The family worked together operating and maintaining a motel in South Central Los Angeles.
Owens and the Yang family lost their lives, "Tookie" Williams should too. If it was a white man convicted of a hate crime such as this, Susan Sarandon and her ilk would be screaming for his head.
Finally, if Williams was "killing all white people", why did he murder the Yangs?

Here are two views of Mumia Abu-Jamal case. I know that this is an old case but during every anti-war protest I see a "Free Mumia" sign. As someone who has been exposed to this case through the nightly news, I believe this guy is guilty as hell and that his supporters are the same people who would allow this to happen again.

Open War on Philly Cops
Sphere: Related Content
There's nothing more reprehensible than shooting a cop doing his job. That basic American tenet has been thrown by the wayside in Philadelphia:
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Two Philadelphia police officers were shot Tuesday evening while trying to serve a warrant, the latest in a spate of shootings at police that has left one city officer dead this year.
No arrests were immediately made in Tuesday's shootings in northeast Philadelphia. Both officers were taken to hospitals, one with a gunshot wound to the hip and the other to the leg. Their names were not being released.
Both plainclothes officers, who worked in the narcotics division, were reported to be in stable condition.
This is the city where Mumia Abu Jamal shot officer Danny Faulkner more than a quarter century ago and the left has exulted him as some type of hero instead of the scumbag cop killer he really is. The French named a street in Jamal's honor for crying out loud!
The liberal exultation of Jamal has led to what we are seeing now in Philly; the police are not only hated but hunted. The rule of law is breaking down and the regime of John Street and Chief of Police Sylvester Johnson have done nothing with the exception of Johnson wringing his hands over a "stop and frisk" proposal recently debated. When the police chief won't protect his officers, all law is gone.
This is what we get from 30-years of democrat rule in Philly...you reap what you sow I guess. Philly is lost because of ineffective leadership.
Of course, it's not just Philly, it's a national trend:
"Something has transformed the mentality of these inner-city kids that killing a police officer is just the price to be paid for doing business of dealing drugs or robbing a store," said Hubert Williams, president of the Police Foundation in Washington.
"We're seeing more and more of this kind of thing," said Williams, a former police director in Newark, N.J. "They're deliberately shooting for the head - they know the police wear body armor."
This is a complete societal breakdown in the inner city and will lead to good cops bolting for less stressful jobs or at least for cities where they can trust the Police Chief to have their back.

"Aborted" Baby Born Alive Then Killed
Sphere: Related ContentThese scumbags put a breathing baby in a plastic bag and let her suffocate in the trash:
Eighteen and pregnant, Sycloria Williams went to an abortion clinic outside Miami and paid $1,200 for Dr. Pierre Jean-Jacque Renelique to terminate her 23-week pregnancy.I've tended to stay out of the abortion debate for the most part because people are entrenched in their views but this is indefensible by the pro-abortion groups like NOW and Planned Parenthood. Speaking of the womens groups, they seem to be eerily silent at the national level on this case considering it was a woman who was treated horribly and a very yound woman who was murdered. To their credit, the local NOW affiliate condemned it because they know full-well that abortion is considered vile by the public but this crosses the line and it could hurt their donations.
Three days later, she sat in a reclining chair, medicated to dilate her cervix and otherwise get her ready for the procedure.
Only Renelique didn't arrive in time. According to Williams and the Florida Department of Health, she went into labor and delivered a live baby girl.
What Williams and the Health Department say happened next has shocked people on both sides of the abortion debate: One of the clinic's owners, who has no medical license, cut the infant's umbilical cord. Williams says the woman placed the baby in a plastic biohazard bag and threw it out.
Police recovered the decomposing remains in a cardboard box a week later after getting anonymous tips.
Here's what the mother said happened:
Williams' lawsuit offers a cruder account: She says Gonzalez knocked the baby off the recliner chair where she had given birth, onto the floor. The baby's umbilical cord was not clamped, allowing her to bleed out. Gonzalez scooped the baby, placenta and afterbirth into a red plastic biohazard bag and threw it out.I believe the use of abortion to be abhorrent but it is a federally protected right at this point. However, this case is disgusting beyond words. This is pure and simple infanticide.
Remember, it was Obama who refused to take a stand in this type of situation and who has seemed to change his stand with the changing wind direction.
Liberals will fight to save an evil killer like Mumia Abu Jamal but not the little girl exterminated here.
They sure as hell better charge this guy with murder.

An Open Letter to Tom Morrello
Sphere: Related ContentTom,
I read yesterday that you are not such a fan of the fact that VP candidate Paul Ryan is a fan of your band Rage Against the Machine. I believe the words you used were that Ryan is the "machine you raged against". A clever turn of phrase there, buddy.
Anyway, as you may have learned throughout your career with first Rage and further on with Audioslave, your fans base is made up of a great many people with differing views, some of which would be considered conservative--but listening to you over the years I'm convinced that anyone with a viewpoint to the right of Hillary Clinton is a conservative in your eyes.
You see Tom, us with a conservative world view listen to music and some of what we listen to is harder rocking than gospel. You have to understand that our selections are kind of limited because in the entertainment industry as a whole and the music business in particular, there aren't all that many bands with a similar set of values and principles for us to listen to. I guess the only one that comes to mind quickly would be POD, the rap-rock hybrid band from South San Diego that sings of God and redemption, but I digress.
As much as it may unnerve you, us on the right enjoyed your music but as Paul Ryan noted, we didn't necessarily agree with your lyrics. Your band wrote songs about hard-left issues and thought you were (and I'm using the past tense because the band now is a caricature of what it was) some kind of secular messianic leaders. Newsflash Tom, you weren't. You were a flavor of the month band that gave testosterone-filled teenage boys a chance to feel bigger than they were. You sang of things that an seventeen year old from the suburbs thought were cool and made him seem rebellious.
But overall the lyrics were mundane and pretty basic from an intellectual standpoint. You sang of liberal concepts but just didn't have the intellectual capacity to make a difference and string together phrases and choruses that would equal your heroes such as Springsteen. Saying the same words over and over about how cops are white and mean grows tiresome after the first paragraph.
It seems to bother you as a person that your songs didn't motivate people to take down the "man" and fundamentally change the country. Case in point: you played a benefit concert for convicted cop killer Mumia Abu Jamal and you personally have spoken up for him. Even though every shred of evidence and numerous court appearances have confirmed that the former Black Panther shot Officer Danny Faulkner in cold blood on a Center City Philly street. Jamal should be six-feet under by now but instead is considered an icon in the left-liberal community thanks in no small part to you.
Getting back into it, your music was okay. You are an immensely talented guitar player who thought could change the world. Instead, you played behind lyrics that were shallow and infantile. Zack de la Rocha screaming "fuck you I won't do what you tell me!" repeatedly is not going to change anything except maybe the chances that the idiot teenager screaming them along with you has of getting laid that night. Believe me, that idiot teenager is going to calm down, come down and go back to the suburbs to his comfy basement with X-Box and cable TV. His mind wasn't changed--at least until he gets out of college with his degree in Native-American studies and no chance of a job in Obamanation.
Now granted, you have come out in support of the Occupy movement because they are what you've always hoped for; an angry mob of liberals that have been contaminated with the lefty gene. Years of elementary school, the entertainment industry, marxist college professors--and perhaps small bit of RATM music--have made them what they are today and that is a bunch of unproductive losers whom feel they are entitled to things from the government. This is your dream and it's populated by a group that once melded together raped, murdered and generally made pests out of themselves in the eyes of hard-working Americans. It took about a month after OWS started before people said enough. It's got to make you feel bitter that 20-years of pumping out lefty anthems was destroyed by six months of watching your disciples give the finger to what America stands for while taking a shit in the street. The enemy, the Tea Party lives on while every sensible politician--even those inclined to your world view-- has run away as fast as they can.
So in conclusion, yes, some of us on the right listen to your music or did back when you were somewhat relevant in the mid-nineties. And yes, we admit it and have you in our I-Pods. But don't believe yourself to be any bigger than you are or were. It's got to be balling that your band never had the lyrical talent of your contemporaries such as Tool, Alice in Chains or even Metallica. RATM threw together hard-left phrases but never in such a coherent fashion that it made any difference. Although you did out the fans and the alleged movement by going corporate with Audioslave, made your money, then went back to playing the lefty anarchist again. A typical elitist liberal move but we won't hold it against you.
Thanks for your time Tom and keep on raging against the machine.
Regards,
ER

More on Moussaoui
Sphere: Related ContentThe general feel I get from the right-side blogosphere is that they wanted death for Moussaoui. I for one did not and think that in the future it will actually assist in the war on terror.
The Europeans are always hesitant to extradite a suspect if the chance of capital punishment is on the table. What can they say next time they have an al-Qaeda leader when we the people chose not to put a man who was part of a conspiracy that killed thousands to death? Of course, France excluded.
As for the argument that he will become a living martyr while in prison such as Mumia Abu Jamal is, I tend to think that unlike Jamal--the scumbag that murdered officer Danny Faulkner--the gravity of just what Moussaoui was involved in will be understood and remembered forever.
Anyone who supports him will be shown in the light as an idiot who deserves ridicule. Hell, the morons are already showing themselves and are being exposed for their inanity.
Americans hate being taunted, but what do the taunts mean? Nothing when taken in context. They are the ravings of a terrorist who didn't accomplish his mission. A failed terrorist who sounds like the kid who gets his ass kicked in the schoolyard and screams "wait til next time", except there will be no next time for Moussaoui.
As always, Ed says it much better than I.
Update: Peggy Noonan has her say and it's different than mine.
Update 2: Robert Spencer has a must-read in Front Page today. An excerpt about the claims that Moussaoui was insane because of a deprived childhood:
Moussaoui himself would have none of this, dismissing it as “a lot of American B.S.” Nevertheless, the strategy apparently worked: he was indeed spared the death penalty.
More:
Moussaoui made himself very clear. He identified himself as an adherent of the jihad ideology that fuels Islamic movements around the globe today, who are fighting in part because of the conviction enunciated decades ago by the Pakistani jihad thinker and politician Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi: he declared that non-Muslims have “absolutely no right to seize the reins of power in any part of Allah’s earth nor to direct the collective affairs of human beings according to their own misconceived doctrines.” If they do, “the believers would be under an obligation to do their utmost to dislodge them from political power and to make them live in subservience to the Islamic way of life.”
From this perspective, why should Moussaoui feel any remorse for what he did? As he put it, “There is no regret for justice.” He sees 9/11 as the Muslims doing their utmost to dislodge the infidels from political power. He believes that when he inflicts pain upon those who are at war with Islam, he is doing what pleases Allah. He is working for justice in this world.
Update 3: Scott at POV has a great take:
What we get with this jury's decision is a serious recalculation of what punishment fits which crime. After all, acting as an accomplice in the death of 2,700 Americans is nothing to sneeze at, yet it garners only life in a maximum security Prison. So, what does anything less than the most horrific crime in American history get you?
The Jury's decision has undercut the horrific scope of Moussaoui's crime by substituting childhood development problems shared by millions around the globe for criminal actions that only the most heinous of the world's population could even contemplate. In doing so they have failed to provide justice in favor of considering mitigating circumstances within our legal framework. Some may champion this as reflection of our values and what sets us apart from "them". I agree that this is a positive reflection our values, particularly our desire for a strong and functioning judicial system, but I also see this as a poor reflection of our judgment that does not so much set us apart from "them" but rather helps only to set us up.

Perusing the Inquirer
Sphere: Related ContentThis is the mindset of Philadelphian's, especially those entrenched in the Democratic machine that is Philly politics:
Re: "Make it the people's box," editorial, Feb. 20:
I am writing in regard to the mayor's box at the sports stadiums. I have never sat in one; however, members of my organization have. Whenever an officer is involved in an extremely noteworthy situation, such as being shot or severely injured, I have been contacted to have these officers go to the next game. I have also been invited to join them.
The mayor also lets the officers invite their police partners.
The reason why the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 5 endorsed - and continues to support - Mayor Street is due directly to how he cares and ensures that our injured officers are treated with respect.
Robert Eddis
President, Lodge No. 5
Fraternal Order of Police
Philadelphia
Here's the deal, the mayor of Philly used his taxpayer-funded luxury box to raise funds, or at least take care of potential donors. I find it amazing that the president of a local FOP would have the balls to to say that officer are treated with respect, this is the same mayor who recently awarded French politicians a Liberty Bell award who are going to name a street after infamous cop killer Mumia abu Jamal.
And of course, what good is a morning if you can't start it off with the always despicable Tony Auth.

Good Sunday Reads
Sphere: Related ContentMichael Barone on the Blogosphere:
So what hath the blogosphere wrought? The left blogosphere has moved the Democrats off to the left, and the right blogosphere has undermined the credibility of the Republicans' adversaries in Old Media. Both changes help Bush and the Republicans.
Update: Michael e-mailed Powerline and had more to say.
Another reason to hate the French and Philadelphia Democrats:
French politicians and activists seeking a new trial and freedom for convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal were welcomed in a Friday rally at City Hall and given replicas of the Liberty Bell.
Bush and tort reform.
Mark Steyn on...well, alot.
Andrew Sullivan on the UN.
The BBC is wrong about the Eason Jordan story.

Music Rules
With the advent of the I-pod, it forced people to think of what songs they would want to put on there. I tend to lean toward harder rock or blend music such as Sublime (RIP Bradley) and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. My taste in music also tends to be eclectic; I can listen to the Grateful Dead then segue into 10,000 Maniacs into Triumph into Disturbed into Everclear into Social Distortion...
The one song that gets me singing like a complete idiot in my truck is Plowed by Sponge, it's one of those songs that reaches deep into my soul. Usually after it's over I can't talk above a whisper after imitating that dude's voice. Another is Father of Mine from Everclear, that song was definitely written from the heart. The last is Re-align by Godsmack, that guys voice is unbelievable.
The best albums of the year ten years according to me, who unlike real music critics actually buys and listens to music because I like it, are the following (not in any order):
I will post two tonight and continue this every Friday:
Audioslave-Audioslave
Chris Cornell is the best singer of this generation, kind of like Paul Rodgers of Bad Company was in the 70's/80's. His voice can go from here to here without taking away from the quality of the finished production. Although I don't agree with Tom Morello on anything politically, and still haven't forgiven him for leading Rage Against the Machine in playing the Mumia Abu Jamal benefit, tyhe dude can straight play the guitar. He and Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains are groundbreaking.
Sublime-Sublime
Probably my favorite album ever. Unfortunately Bradley Newell died before he go the opportunity to enjoy success. That's what you get for being a junkie. This album starts with Garden Grove with funky lyrics and many references to Lou Dog into What I Got, which was classic Bradley Newell with lyrical changes that span a huge range. Next is Wrong Way about a guy saving a pre-teen from the underworld of prostitution. April 29, 1992 tells how the band got their furniture and equipment from smashing a few windows during the Rodney King riots. The CD ends with Doin' Time, a bluesy/Ska/Rock song that kind of defies description. I highly recommend this album to anyone who likes music with an edge. What a damn shame the idiot booted heroin until it killed him.

Does anyone get the point of this woman?
Some media coverage of a recent antiwar protest in Washington mistakenly reported that the marchers took a route past the White House. Actually, protesters were prevented from walking along Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House, and were instead relegated to H Street, one block away.
I know because I was there.
Before I left for Washington, I talked to a 20-year-old Temple University student, Evan Hoffman, who is a member of the antiwar group Not in Our Name.
"I think it's really important to protest that this war was based on lies and that we want our troops to come home," he said. "People around the world should know that there are a lot of Americans against this war."
All the usual suspects were in attendance at the Washington Monument - the Free Mumia crowd, the Maoist Internationalist Movement, the Chicago Anti-Bashing Network, and the Falun Gong. Lots of groups like to piggyback their messages to a receptive multitude, and yet other groups feel it dilutes the effect that a mass movement solely united against the war would have.
OK, I thought this was a "these people are all complete idiots diatribe" but, what? She takes no side (I think) that is discernible. Is she for or against the war?
I say the more, the merrier. Heterophony rocks!
Now the Dictionary.Com website gives the following definitions of heterophony:
het·er·oph·o·ny ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ht-rf-n)
n.
The simultaneous playing or singing of two or more versions of a melody
And:
heterophony
\Het`er*oph"o*ny\, n. [Hetero- + Gr. ? voice.] (Med.) An abnormal state of the voice. --Mayne.
I think she means the former, as in diverse groups such as defenders of cop-killers and followers of a communist leader whose legacy is the country that aborts the children of its future before they can even be born.
I believe the latter is the more correct description of these anti-war zealots. Their voice is definitely abnormal.
This article is horrid. I've written better letters to the editor published by the Inquirer which were written at 4:00 A.M. after attending a bachelor party. Why was this published? She gives no evidence of positions people took or offered any balance. She could have written the first paragraph and the last sentence and said the same thing. The Inquirer has got to be able to find better commentary.

There has been so much talk about neo-cons. You know the new Conservatives who will do anything to support Israel and force a new order in the mid-east. Come on, you know, Wolfowitz, Perlman, et al.
But what of neo-Liberals. What are they you ask? Progressives, you know, the new type of Marxist. You see them on the tube whenever the World Trade Organization is meeting. You see them whenever Bush or Rumsfeld speak. They will never cross over and agree with conservatives no matter what. If they agree with neo-cans they form a new opinion farther to the left. You know the type, they believe that we were at fault for being attacked on 9/11. They believe that Osama was a guy who built roads and daycare centers (for what daycare centers would be needed when women can't leave their houses without a close male relative is beyond me). They believe even though Saddam did gas the Kurds and pummeled the Shiites, we still had no business toppling him, and were horrified that we not only offed his treacherous offspring but showed their bodies. They're the ones who protest in support of the cop-killer Mumia Abu Jamal and the death penalty, yet never showed their faces when an abortion doctors murderer was put to death.
As I said in a previous post, they are not Kennedy (Edward maybe, but not John), who lowered taxes to boost the economy, and stood up to the Soviets. They are not Truman, who dropped a nuclear (nucular if your a Bush) on an enemy to save American lives. No, neo-libs are spineless. They believe that even if attacked, response is not just wrong but reprehensible. They believe that the Israelis are as bad as the Palestinian genocide bombers. They believe that globalism and genetically modified foods, which will only serve to pull the impoverished up to a higher standard, are evil (no, not evil, Bush uses that word and it's so simplisme, so black and white).
I won't go as far as saying they are anti-American, however I will say that they believe that the UN should have a greater say in the lives of Americans than the comnstitutional government, and that my friends, is unforgivable.
Some old time Libs get it. Hitchens to a degree is one. I hope that others,as I said with Saletan in an earlier post, eventually get it.
