Spitzer Out Monday

Sphere: Related Content

Adios Eliot.

After a decade, the guy got careless and was brought down by his arrogance.
The people of New York deserve better than that and are now stuck with a guy they didn't elect who is so liberal he makes Obama look like a Republican. Call it Spitzer's last smack while heading out the door.

Exit question: Worth $4,300, the end of your career and the shame you've brought down on your wife and kids

I guess in Spitzer's eyes that would be a yes.

Spitzer's Woes are Obama's Gain

Sphere: Related Content

According to the NY Post:

March 11, 2008 -- Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been soliciting high-priced hookers for at least six years and possibly for more than a decade, sources tell The Post.

The revelation yesterday that the crusading governor was in fact "Client 9" named in a federal prostitution indictment did not shock insiders in the city's sex industry.

Sources tell The Post that Spitzer had frequented high-priced hookers as far back as 2002 and possibly earlier.
That would mean he was gettin' busy while he was Attorney General and busting pimps, pros and johns. The height of hypocrisy one might say but Democrats can't be hypocrites, only Republicans, right?

The Times broke the story but the Post and the Daily News are the ones that are going to dig up the real dirt, the dirt that will show just what a scumbag this dude really is. The only way to tamp it down even a little bit is by resigning tomorrow. The more he stays, the more he gets pummeled by the tabloids.

That said, I have a few questions:

So who would you say is benefitting from the saturation coverage of Spitzer? Try Obama with the Rezko trial happening as we speak.

I question the timing.

If the NY Governor and former AG was cavorting with prostitutes for the better part of the last five years, how did no reporters know about it? Why did The Times wait until yesterday to release it when they could have done what they've historically done when any other Democrat was found in a compromising situation--released it on a Friday or Saturday when the news cycle was slow?

Yes, the police were looking into the case and yes, they knew it was Spitzer but they don't seem willing to charge him as of yet and they haven't commented on the case at all. I don't think the government wanted this story to be revealed--at least not yet. That says to me that The Times may have weighed the effect of Rezko on Obama and the kinky exploits of a failing governor on the other. They chose to protect the man who could be the Dem presidential nominee and by featuring the story as explosively as they did, all eyes are off the Rezko trial.

Update: Can't you just hear Hillary seethe? She was hoping to pound home the Rezko connection and she was denied by this story.

update: An epic Iowahawk.

Update: I'm so proud, I'm now number five on a Google search for the search terms "republicans banging hookers". Sweet, I'm going to call my Mom and let her know that I've actually amounted to something.

Update: Damn, $80,000. That should put the out of work people in Buffalo and Newburgh in his corner.

The Times Writes Spitzer Obit While Libs Defend

Sphere: Related Content

The NY Times owns the Spitzer story. They had it first and have run with this in a way that makes one remember that The Times actually was a very good newspaper at one time, and can be again. Today, they bury Spitzer unless he can rise, Phoenix-like from the ashes.

Spitzer stands accused of a crime and was busted in a criminal conspiracy. He previously investigated the exact same crimes for which he now is accused and people were incarcerated because of his efforts.

Of course, we have the heathen left led by the shameless Greenwald questioning not only why Spitzer is facing scandal but why hiring a prostitute is illegal in the first place. Well Glenn, whether it should be illegal or not is a question for another day, some with a decidedly libertarian bent would say the same thing about drugs. Yet it is illegal today and was last month when Spitzer stands accused of arranging the tryst so Spitzer has broken the law plain and simple. It's not "just about sex" as we'll hear umpteen times over the next month ala the Lewinsky affair, it's about a sitting governor doing things that he has previously arrested people for. To break it down in terms you may understand, Glenn: It's like the hypocrisy you cried about with Ted Haggard and Vitter, all they did was have sex with consenting adults but you raked them over the coals, which makes you a filthy hypocrite.

Yes, there has been some really big GOP sex scandals of late but no one can top the Dems in this department--Clinton and Lewinsky (and Flowers...), McGreevey getting hummers from anonymous truckers and now Spitzer. They own the front page sex scandals.

Note that very few liberal bloggers even mentioned Spitzer's wife and family. If it makes you happy, do it. That is the liberal mantra and Spitzer lived by it. He's now dying by it. The fact that the man broke the single greatest promise one will ever make in life--the marriage vow--is beyond the comprehension of these people. They see it as something everyone does and it's just another in a long series of broken pledges.

Believe me, there's a great many people enjoying watching Spitzer squirm and he brought it all on himself.

Update: Hamsher has donned her tinfoil hat for the occasion. It's funny that people defend this, the guy may have been caught and it may well have been a politically-motivated investigation, the simple fact is that Spitzer broke the law of his own volition. The government didn't force him to spend $4,300 on a hooker. The whole conspiracy theory idea is ludicrous on its face.

Also, when Spitzer was going after Wall St, it was 100% political. Grasso, Greenberg and the rest were quite simply caught in a web of political intrigue. It didn't bother Spitzer that he ruined lives and careers and to now defend him when these same libs cheered him while taking down capitalists shows exactly the level of shame these people have--none.

Here's another one who doesn't see the hypocrisy in his position.

NY Guv Spitzer is Really Screwed

Sphere: Related Content

This is the type of story that sets a political bloggers heart aflutter:

ALBANY - Gov. Eliot Spitzer has been caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel last month, according to a person briefed on the federal investigation.

An affidavit in the federal investigation into a prostitution ring said that a wiretap recording captured a man identified as Client 9 on a telephone call confirming plans to have a woman travel from New York to Washington, where he had reserved a hotel room. The person briefed on the case identified Mr. Spitzer as Client 9.

Mr. Spitzer today made a brief public appearance during which he apologized for his behavior, and described it as a “private matter.”

“I have acted in a way that violates my obligation to my family and violates my or any sense of right or wrong,” said Mr. Spitzer, who appeared with his wife Silda at his Manhattan office. “I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public to whom I promised better.”
Now this is just too damn awesome. Spitzer was the muckraking Attorney general who had his nose in everyones business and preached morality and the righteousness of the law. He is the same man who sicced police on his main GOP adversary as soon as he could after taking the oath for governor. Now he's busted partaking in a little of that high end action with girls named Shantel and Amber. Jeez, what the hell do you get for $1,300 $4,300...er, never mind, just thinking about that gnome-looking dude gettin' busy is too much.

I heard on the Hannity show people talking about whether or not he could survive this, they mentioned that Clinton did when he was caught. The difference is that Clinton had a vast sea of allies and those who owed him favors. Clinton may have been a liar and a cheat but people liked him and were loyal (added: despite the fact that loyalty only went one way. see update below--ed). Besides, Clinton's sex wasn't illegal, just immoral.

Spitzer on the other hand is a liar and a cheat as well but no one likes him. He's arrogant in the extreme and made far too many enemies to survive this. Hell, Clinton even had some on the GOP side backing him while Spitzer has used his position like a hammer and clubbed the GOP and his own party every time he got the chance.

Look at the picture, the guy drug his wife up on stage just to heighten her embarrassment. Everyone look she must have been thinking, the woman whose husband was banging expensive hookers is now acting the supportive wife next to him. What a scumbag Spitzer is, I hope she takes him for every damn penny he has just for dragging her through this.

No, Spitzer doesn't survive this and New York will be looking at a new Governor in short order.

Update: Video from MSNBC

Update: It didn't take Shrillary but and hour to scrub her website of all references to the philandering guv. There's some good old fashioned Clinton loyalty for you.

Update: There are very few stories that get bloggers attention like this one. Sex and politics sells.

Update: I'm getting a few hits from idiots using the search term "is eliot spitzer a republican". Can't you just imagine that these morons are all ready to slam the GOP and when they find out that he's a donk they do the old Emily Litella "never mind" bit?

Eliot Spitzer is the GOP's Best friend

Sphere: Related Content

Eliot Spitzer is in the news again for saying something that could hurt the Dems chances next November. Licenses for illegals: couldn't take the heat from his own party and withdrew it. Taxing the Internet in NY: The public freaked and Spitzer tabled it.

Now Spitzer is advocating for gay marriage in NY, a position that is undoubtedly supported by every Democratic candidate but one they sure wouldn't want to have to go on record as agreeing to:

November 16, 2007 -- ALBANY - Gov. Spitzer said at a private fund-raiser that he wants a Democratic-controlled state Senate to legalize gay marriage - a highly divisive and controversial issue - as one of its first priorities in 2009, a witness to the remarks told The Post.

Spitzer, a gay-marriage proponent, pledged to help Democrats next November win the three Senate seats they need to gain the majority.

"One of the first things we're going to do when [Senate Minority Leader] Malcolm Smith is [majority] leader is gay marriage," the witness recounted Spitzer as telling some 60 people who paid up to $10,000 each to attend the event in Greenwich Village Wednesday night.

The Dems need the South and Midwest to win, gay marriage is an issue that will not help them a bit I would suspect, thus the Democratic party will now be put on the defensive once again because Eliot Spitzer has Chuck Schumer disease, he can't keep himself from saying dumb shit when in front of a camera or audience.

Eventually the Democrat party will realize that nearly every issue they support is not supported by the general population, illegal aliens getting amnesty, abortion, national defense and gay marriage are the first to come to mind. I'm sure Hillary's on the line with Spitzer today telling him to keep his damn pie hole shut for awhile.

Spitzer Makes Nixon Look Sane

Sphere: Related Content

Eliot Spitzer evidently had some serious scores to settle and he started right after taking office by going hard after Republican leader Joe Bruno. He is paying for his vengeance-seeking big time now:

November 12, 2007 -- Gov. Spitzer's former communications director, Darren Dopp, asked another Spitzer aide to lie about the origins of the Dirty Tricks Scandal - including the governor's own allegedly extensive knowledge of the plot to smear the Senate's GOP leader, a well-placed source told The Post yesterday.

Dopp wanted now-demoted Spitzer homeland-security aide William Howard to join him in denying there was anything unusual in their months-long effort to use the State Police to gather evidence purporting to show Majority Leader Joseph Bruno (R-Rensselaer) misused state aircraft for political purposes, said the source, who knows many of those involved in the scandal.
It's not the initial deed, it's always the cover up and it appears that Spitzer knew full-well what was happening and allowed his staff to lie about his knowledge. It will be interesting to see if Andrew Cuomo will have the huevos to actually pursue charges of perjury or expand the investigation out. My sense is no but with Fred Dicker on the story, it isn't going away anytime soon.

Spitzer is hurting Hillary in New York with this issue and with regard to the drivers licenses for illegals--nationally. How soon until the DNC starts leaning on Spitzer to make this go away any way he can?
