Why Yesterday's Revelations Matter

Sphere: Related Content

Yesterday was a memorable day for Americans who value openness and honesty in their government.

Story number one is the Benghazi disaster where a terror attack was ignored and the initial and subsequent press releases from the administration were fudged for political gain.

UN Ambassador Susan Rice went on no less than 5 Sunday shows in the immediate aftermath and reiterated that the attack by what she knew were a well organized group possibly affiliated with al-Qaeda was in fact a protest that escalated. There was never any report of a "protest" from those who were murdered and those who had on-the-ground knowledge of what was happening. Still, the administration blamed it on a You Tube video that to that point had been viewed by very few people. They eventually arrested the director and he currently still resides in jail. This was bullshit from the beginning but shows just how eager the Obama folks were in keeping the false narrative that Obama killed bin-Laden and thus al-Qaeda was on the run alive. Remember, this was in the midst of a presidential election, one that Obama played the "I killed bin-Laden" card shamefully.

In the aftermath, the media decided to play along with the Obama charade and reported nothing on what it found or in many cases even refused to look into the matter. That is, except Fox News, CBS News' Sharyl Attkison and the new media led by the premiere conservative web sites. Until yesterday when ABC reported that the Obama State Dept. changed the press release at least twelve times from the original version written by the CIA that said pretty clearly that it was in fact a terror attack.

The original read:

“The Agency has produced numerous pieces on the threat of extremists linked to al-Qa’ida in Benghazi and eastern Libya.  These noted that, since April, there have been at least five other attacks against foreign interests in Benghazi by unidentified assailants, including the June attack against the British Ambassador’s convoy. We cannot rule out the individuals has previously surveilled the U.S. facilities, also contributing to the efficacy of the attacks.”
That was entirely deleted by Foggy Bottom spokeswoman Victoria Nuland. She did it purely for political reasons because admitting what was actually the case would have given ammunition to the enemies of the president. Let me emphasize that point: Hillary Clinton's spokesperson changed the assessment by the CIA that it was a terror attack in the interest of helping the president win an election and at the cost of openness and transparency. She knowingly and purposely lied to the American people about the deaths of those who work for our government to win another term for Obama and preserve the reputation of her boss.

Remember this the next time some liberal idiot tells you that the right always politicizes everything: An administration supporter changed a CIA assessment to make her buddy look better during a tumultuous election and blamed the entire event on a moronic documentary film maker who rots in jail to this day.

Kudos to ABC for digging into this; all I have to say is it's about fucking time assholes. They decided to investigate only because they knew the Obama administration promised them marriage and instead bent them over and used them repeatedly then left a five on the nightstand. The walk of shame after that one was too much I'm guessing.

And what did the Obama communications department do after the release of this info by ABC? They called a secret meeting of reporters and then went out and tried to spin it during a torturous press conference by the vile Jay Carney. Transparency my ass. This may not be impeachable but there should be a lot of people fired.

Secondly and easier to understand is the story that also broke yesterday that the IRS systematically and purposely targeted the Tea Party and other right of center group for scrutiny. They specifically looked for groups with "Tea Party" and "Patriot" in their names. They subjected them to interrogations and inflicted financial damage for no other reason then to eliminate these groups. Think about that: a non-profit group set up to support what they believe is a just cause and that went against the administration aims was targeted by the federal government in an attempt to cause harm. This is scary shit here y'all.

Not since the ugly days of Kennedy doing the same to groups that opposed him have we seen this type of government oppression in what can only be described as the squashing of free speech. Put another way, the Obama administration made it policy to dig into its enemies tax returns and, in some cases, attempt to embarrass them publicly.

Let's take that to its logical conclusion: people who legally opposed the policies of a sitting president were systematically audited to shut them up. This is by far one of the more chilling examples of crushing free speech I've heard of in my lifetime.

What's to stop the IRS from auditing me based on what I write here or you when you share a Tea Party Facebook post? Think about it, let's say you share the content of this site on FB. The IRS (using someone getting paid from our tax dollars) finds this site and notes all who have "liked" or shared the content. They target those specific people for scrutiny and before you know it you have a letter saying you are being audited for the years 2007-2012 inclusive. There's no difference in what was done here.

I guess my favorite part is we're expected to believe it was a few low level people who were doing this. I'm sorry, but if a couple of GS-7's can target specific people for scrutiny and disrupt their operations, we have a huge problem. And if that didn't increase your trust in government, perhaps the fact that no one will be disciplined and the spokesperson for the IRS (the nation's accounting agency) said "I'm not good at math" will.

All in all it was a bad day for the Obama administration but a great day for freedom-loving people. The promised "most transparent administration ever" has proven to be Nixonian in tactics and Chicago-like in execution. They make the Bush White House look like the boy in the bubble.

The media belatedly got on board and--at least for one day--did their jobs. It's up to us to keep up the fight and now really take it to them on other issues they've covered up like Fast and Furious that led to the death of Brian Terry.

Here's a link-filled roundup from the Prof.
