An Open Letter to the University of Illinois at Chicago

I've sent this to the Chancellor at the University of Chicago at Illinois.

Paula Allen-Meares

Chancellor
University of Illinois at Chicago

Dear Ms. Allen-Meares

As a citizen of the United States, I must address an issue that has not been thoroughly explained by the University. Mr. William Ayers is currently a professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago and has been for some time. Mr. Ayers is an admitted domestic terrorist who targeted public institutions and helped plan acts that did massive amounts of damage. His organization was directly responsible for many bombings and attempted bombings including one aimed at police and soldiers.

He lived as a fugitive for years and never once admitted any remorse. In fact, on the morning of September 11, 2001 an essay written by him appeared in the New York Times and he said that the terror group he helped found "didn't do enough." Richard Reid, known as the "shoe bomber" never killed anyone but the intent was there and he's now serving life behind bars. Mr. Ayers never killed anyone but the intent was there as well.

As you are the Dean of UIC, I feel compelled to tell you that I have serious misgivings about my tax dollars, through tax breaks and federal programs, being given to UIC. According to the Chicago Flame, in 2007 $180-million of federal money--tax money--went to your institution and presumably to help pay the salaries of the staff including William Ayers.

That's unacceptable to me and I would assume to many others.

I'm calling for the expulsion of William Ayers from your university. A man who plotted violence against not only our government but also police and military personnel does not deserve to receive a paycheck paid for by tax dollars from the same government that he fought. He's an unrepentant terrorist who lives off the largess of taxpayers while never acknowledging that his actions caused harm to the nation and it's citizens.

In this age of electronic media, it will not be hard to generate support for this cause. As a veteran, I am personally disgusted that this man was welcomed into the UI system with open arms and given tenure.

Original post changed as I had the wrong woman earlier.
