In yet another sign that Obama is just as egotistical as those he dubs "insiders," he couldn't swallow his pride enough to win the election and select Hillary. Instead, he chose the penultimate Washington insider, Senator Joe Biden (D-DE).
He could have opted for Governor Sebelius or another DC outsider but his campaign is such utter disarray that he went with a man who less than a year ago slammed him as too inexperienced and not quite ready for primetime.
I'm sure some will spin this as akin to GWB picking Dick Cheney, a move characterized as giving Bush more gravitas, but this was clearly thrust upon him by party chieftains who see a can't lose campaign plummeting into might not win status. In other words, the Democratic party is very uptight at this point and their leaders know full-well that they were wrong to jump on the Obama bandwagon and leave Hillary at the station.
It's a clear indication that the campaign wasn't exactly excited about Biden as they let it leak late last night and the much-ballyhooed text message to his supporters didn't go out until, as Ed Morrisey put it "After last call in every time zone in the lower 48." Odd to say the least that The One would fail in such a crucial element of his campaign and it shows that his advisers are just as clueless.
As for Hillary, she must be elated. She's acting the team player part but she knows that Obama's pride wouldn't allow him to pick her and her 18-million votes so she was cast out. Come November, she will be looked upon as a sage and her political legacy will be enhanced. She will be looked upon as the savior come 2012 and she will have been proved right that she was the only one who could beat the GOP.
The convention will be epic as Hillary supporters are sure to cause some hate and discontent at the Pepsi Center. Hell, I am actually getting excited about the prospect of mass chaos, warehouse gulags and PUMA spat with Obamakins. With the Olympics coming to an end, the convention will be a nice fill in.
Update: A cursory peek at the lefty blogs shows they are about as underwhelmed as I am. Some seem supportive but tepidly so:
Feministe (Read the comments)
Comments From Left Field (where the delusion is thick about the "good week" Obama had)
MyDD (where they continue the Ron Fournier is in the bag for McCain meme)
Update 2: Biden was selected for his supposed foreign policy expertise. This an example of that "expertise:"

Update 2: Biden was selected for his supposed foreign policy expertise. This an example of that "expertise:"
Biden launches into a stream-of-consciousness monologue about what his [Senate Foreign Relations] committee should be doing, before he finally admits the obvious: "I'm groping here." Then he hits on an idea: America needs to show the Arab world that we're not bent on its destruction. "Seems to me this would be a good time to send, no strings attached, a check for $200 million to Iran," Biden declares. He surveys the table with raised eyebrows, a How do ya like that? look on his face. This is from an October 2001 New Republic essay. America was reeling from the September 11 attacks and we needed leadership on the Democratic side to match the excellent leadership of Bush. Instead we get Biden suggesting we send a state known for sponsoring terror worlwide a $200 million check? Expertise my ass.
Update 3: The McCain folks were ready and delivered this devastating ad in record time:
