Environmental Movement Losing Steam

Sphere: Related Content

Environmentalist's finally have gotten what they dearly wanted; gas priced so high as to change peoples driving habits. With gas priced north of $4.00 per gallon, people are driving less and in the minds of environmentalist's that is the greatest thing since the Exxon Valdez oil spill or the meltdown at Chernobyl (two events that they could point to and say "see, fossil fuels and nuclear energy harm the planet and are evil).

But as my mom used to say, "be careful for what you wish because you just may get it."

With the high price of fuel, there is a serious push to restart domestic drilling and McCain is starting to get on board. It's a great issue for him because every day Americans are spending $50-$80 to fill up and it's taking a huge chunk of their budgets. In other words, it's an issue that is severely hurting "middle America."

The American people are starting to weigh the two positions:

Continue to import oil from thugs like Chavez, Ahmadinejad and the house of Saud who do everything in their power to counter America and in some cases harm our citizens; or

Drill away and give the finger to those thugs and OPEC. We have the crude on our shores and in ANWR so let's go get it (McCain hasn't yet called for drilling in ANWR but that will change soon enough).

If you asked the average American whether they would rather reduce driving and continue to pay exorbitant prices for 87 octane or would they rather save the environment (at least that's what the junk science says), they'll say screw Mother Nature and give me $2.00 fuel. We love our cars and we will not soon relinquish the freedom to drive anywhere we wish, when we wish.
