Creeping GOP Racism and Code Words: Sebelius

Kansas Guv Kathleen Sebelius warns the nation about the creeping, covert Republican racism scheme:

WASHINGTON — Echoing comments by Barack Obama, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius predicted that Republicans would undertake "a major effort to try and frighten people about him" because of his race.

"That has been the Republican playbook for the last eight years," said Sebelius, an Obama ally. " 'He’s not qualified, he's somebody who should scare you. He's too liberaI.' "

The Kansas Democrat, often mentioned as a possible running mate for Obama, said those were all "code words" to try to make voters "uncomfortable."

"I don’t think anybody's going to go directly at the race issue, but that’s going to be an underlying theme," she said in an interview this week.
We won't go "directly at the race" issue but use "code words". Uh, OK. So essentially, Gov. Sebelius is saying that every single word can be interpreted as racist, just in code.

To all my GOP brethren, please send me the special Racial Code Word Decoder Ring, I seem to have lost mine. I've included my $1.00 check made out to the RNC plus $2.50 shipping and handling costs.

I'm not quite positive of the demographics of Gov. Sebelius' state but it seems to me that she's on the verge of alienating her own, largely white, constituency. Is she going to call them racists if they use these unknown "code words?"

Exit thought: If America is diminished in the eyes of the world because of Iraq, etc. and the only hope for us to redeem ourselves is to elect Obama, isn't Gov. Sebelius and others screaming racism where there is none actually tempering the message of inclusiveness that Obama's nomination has sent?

I say again to any who charge racism when it doesn't exist: Remember what happened to the boy who cried wolf.
