A few months ago, I'd have bet on the former. Now, I'd say a little of both.
Obama had this to say in Palm Beach, Fla:
In a speech to the crowd, Obama sharpened his rhetoric against some of the most vocal voices against immigrant workers and migrant worker programs. That'll go over real well and is reminiscent of Bill Clinton blaming Rush for Timothy McVeigh's terrorist actions.
“A certain segment has basically been feeding a kind of xenophobia. There’s a reason why hate crimes against Hispanic people doubled last year,” Obama said. “If you have people like Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh ginning things up, it’s not surprising that would happen.”
Obama fails to realize that Dobbs and Limbaugh (and myriad others) do not have any problems with Hispanics immigrants, it's the ones of the illegal variety that bothers them and me. They've broken the law and Obama wants to piss on those who followed the legal route by granting a group of criminals amnesty.
How bright is it to even bring up the illegal immigrant issue when the economy is in a lull and people are losing their jobs, in some cases to the very illegals Obama's protecting?
But hey, he made a cool $500K by uttering Rush's name so it doesn't really matter where he stands when he's pandering.
Eh, maybe it's his advisers who are stupid.
Update: Hey, why should Obama worry when his GOP opponent is even more liberal on the issue? McCain has to tackle this issue right now and come out strongly for the conservative side or we'll all just stay home. I know Hawk will.
