American Public Feeling Better About Iraq War

Sphere: Related Content

In case you haven't noticed, the MSM has not featured Iraq on the front pages in quite some time. It's a subtle move away from coverage because then they'd have to actually cover the good news and they are loathe to do that. The MSM knows that the albatross around the neck of the GOP is the perception that the war in Iraq is lost and by extension the greater War on Terror. If the public believes the war is unwinnable the thinking goes, the democarts will get a veto-proof majority in the Senate and enough seats in the House to ram through every ill-conceived piece of legislation they can dream up and the GOP can't do a damn thing about it.

Reporting the war in Iraq was easy prior to the arrival of General David Petraeus and the addition of more troops. In short order, the so-called surge has shown benefits and effectiveness and the al-Qaeda elements are finding the going a bit tougher now that their former allies and tribal leaders have turned on them.

Today, a poll was released that shows that there is indeed a better nationwide feeling about our war effort:

Whether because of the news from Iraq, or the messages from the White House, Americans are less pessimistic than they were about the future prospects in Iraq. The percentage of those who believe that things are getting better for U.S. troops has increased from 13 percent in March and 20 percent in August to 25 percent now. Those who believe things are getting worse have fallen from 55 percent in January and 51 percent in March to only 32 percent in this new Harris Poll.
Note the pessimistic outlook the author takes because it's just not going according to plan. Don't the stupid American people know that we can't win this thing and that it would be good for the country if we were embarrassed again like we were in Vietnam? That drop from 55% to 32% in folks believing things are getting worse is the most significant portion of the entire poll.

Read the poll and you'll see some good numbers and the feelings are getting better although they are not near majority levels on alot of topics. But it is good news.
