It's always funny when liberals realize that fellow liberals can be extremely mean-spirited. I prefer to think of Rethuglicans such as myself a bit meaner (but in a much more clever way)but the evidence for that is not as plain as it once was.
Anyway, Old Lanny wrote a piece in the WSJ today that has libs hopping mad:
One Sunday morning on C-Span I debated Nation editor Katrina vanden Heuvel on the Lieberman versus Lamont race. Afterwards I received a series of emails--many of them in ALL CAPS (which often suggests the hyper-frenetic state of these extremist haters)--that were of the same stripe as the blog posts, and filled with the same level of personal hate.
But the issue is not just emotional outbursts by these usually anonymous bloggers. A friend of mine just returned from Connecticut, where he had spoken on several occasions on behalf of Joe Lieberman. He happens to be a liberal antiwar Democrat, just as I am. He is also a lawyer. He told me that within a day of a Lamont event--where he asked the candidate some critical questions--some of his clients were blitzed with emails attacking him and threatening boycotts of their products if they did not drop him as their attorney. He has actually decided not to return to Connecticut for the primary today; he is fearful for his physical safety.
First off Lanny, sitting and listening to Katrina vanden Heuvel for more than one syllable should convince you that your party is insane, but I digress. If you had been paying attention, you'd have noticed that your party has been taken over by racist, anti-Semitic loons. It is not the "centrist", DLC party you believed but a party that writes posts like this (which I won't reprint) or the word of the svelte Ollie Willis:
but the ease with which so much of the Dem establishment jumps into the arms of the neo-fascist WSJ editorial pages is pretty indicative of the downward spiral they've put the Democratic party in through their leadership.
Note the headline from the oh so intelligent Mr. Willis:
Wonder Why You Suck? This Is Why. (Continued)
Clever, that.
Let's not forget the Carpetbagger Report:
First, it's hardly groundbreaking news that there are, on occasion, angry liberals who share their thoughts in print.
Second, it's hard to argue with a straight face that someone that no one's ever heard of who left a comment on a Kos thread is the moral and political equivalent of Coulter or Limbaugh.
Third, Davis blasts "liberal bloggers" — but doesn't actually mention any.
In summation, I hope for the good of the country that Lieberman triumphs over "Diversity Ned" (howdy neighbor!), but as a blogger, a Lamont win would give us the opportunity to pick him and the cause he espouses apart on a daily basis. It would be as much fun as when Dean was a supposed front-runner.
Update: Kos on Liebermans website issues:
A smaller site doesn't need that much bandwidth, but if you're paying $15 because your $12 million campaign is too freakin' cheap to pay for quality hosting, then don't go blaming your opponent when your shitty service goes out.
...I'm telling you, it's down because they were too cheap to pay for quality hosting. That's a lesson to all of you campaigns skimping on hosting. $15 won't cut it.
By calling Lieberman cheap (twice), you don't think Kos is trying to perpetuate a stereotype or anything..do you?
