Well they did if you ask those surveyed in this poll:
Half of Americans now say Iraq had weapons of mass destruction when the United States invaded the country in 2003 -- up from 36 percent last year, a Harris poll finds. Pollsters deemed the increase both "substantial" and "surprising" in light of persistent press reports to the contrary in recent years.
Perhaps because the persistent press is not deemed reliable anymore. People are getting their news from many sources and their opinions are much more informed than just four years ago.
Saddam had a history of moving his weapons when he knew he was to be attacked (think MiG's during Gulf War I, of which half were flown to Iran) and he most-likely shuttled them to Syria. If that's the case, Hezbollah may have control of them at this point.
