Another NJ GOP Congressman Will Not Run

And so it goes, Representative Mike Ferguson (R-NJ 7th District) will not seek re-election. He is the second Jersey Republican in a week to announce that he will not run again coming on the heels of Rep. Jim Saxton announcing he has cancer and will not seek another term.

The 7th District extends across parts of Middlesex, Somerset and Hunterdon Counties. The Dems would have a serious shot at winning this district next year unless a big name candidate steps up. The scuttlebutt in the state is that Tom Kean, Jr. will try again, but Ferguson only won by 1% in the last election. It's looking darker and darker for the GOP for 2008. The only saving grace is that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have led the worst congressional sessions in recent memory.

The PolitickerNJ site has more and is an indispensable source of political info in a state where politics is as big a sport as the NFL or MLB.

Update: Well, that sure was fast.
