What the Hell are "Moderate" Taliban?

Sphere: Related Content

Tim Blair brings us this opinion piece from the Vancouver Sun:

Richard Holbrooke, United States President Barack Obama's special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan, was urged Tuesday to reach out to reconcilable factions among the Taliban insurgents as an essential move towards bringing peace to the region.

Holbrooke received the advice from Pakistan's foreign minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, during a meeting that also included President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.
Note the advertisement accompanying the piece (update: the ad is a rotating ad, I'll try to get a screenshot) which portrays a man and a woman in a bikini luxuriating in Scottsdale, AZ. I'm guessing according to the Pakistani's, a "moderate" member of the Taliban is one who would only stone the woman in the picture to death (after lashing her forty or so times) were she in a bikini in Kabul next to a man who is not her brother instead of beheading her.

The Glory of Shariah Law

The Archbishop of Canterbury, a man who forced my own church to distance themselves from the Church of England, said the other day that they should allow some parts of Shariah Law in England to be implemented. The backlash was exceptional but the words said by that idiot are still reverberating. An influential imam agrees with the Archbishop:

The recent and controversial call by Dr. Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury, primate (fitting, huh?--ed) of the Church of England and spiritual leader of 80 million Anglicans, for incorporation of Sharia law into British law will not be the last utterance in favor of Islamic law. Nor should it be. The addition of Sharia law to “the law of the land”, in this case British law, complements, rather than undermines, existing legal frameworks. The Archbishop was right. It is time for Britain to integrate aspects of Islamic law.
Is this what Williams wants?

Tehran, 19 Feb.(AKI) - A 70-year-old man has been sentenced by an Iranian judge to four months in jail and 30 lashes for going out on the street with his dog.

The incident took place in Shahr Rey, a suburb of Tehran when the owner of the dog was caught by a police who quickly handcuffed the man. He was later charged by an Islamic judge for "disturbing the public order".
Or perhaps the good Archbishop wants the whole kit and kaboodle including stoning woman who are raped or pushing over walls onto homosexuals to kill them. Believe me, many Islamic leaders would be extremely happy to see the western world go full-bore for Shariah so they don't have to actually fight to make it happen. I can also say without reservation, if the Archbishop were to go to Saudi Arabia and call for the cohabitation of Shariah and liberal law, he'd be beheaded within a week.
