Bad News Puts Iraq War on Front Pages Again

Sphere: Related Content

No, not because we're winning but because of an unfortunate incident in Baghdad. In the last month, the Iraq war has not been featured on the front page because, quite simply, nothing bad has happened and that just doesn't fit into the Inquirer's paradigm. Small victories? Put it on page A17. Shooting on civilians in a sad incident where mistakes were made? Front page.

With all the gains we've made of late and of course the Obama world tour, the Inqy was bumming, how can they get that defeat mentality back? Bam! Troops firing on civilians possibly upsetting the carefully constructed surge and increasing the calls for us to leave. They must have been giddy when they wrote this one.

Gen. Petraeus crafts an excellent strategy to win the hearts, minds and leaders in Iraq and he gets no Inqy ink. One small group gets an itchy trigger finger and they can't place it prominently enough. How about the Inqy just says what they want: our unlikely defeat in Iraq and a humiliation for President Bush.
