Biden Makes For V.P, Says Surge Didn't Work

Delaware Senator Joe Biden, he of a couple of failed presidential bids, says that the surge didn't work:

WASHINGTON - Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. yesterday declared last year's troop buildup in Iraq a failure.

Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said the military push did not succeed because U.S. troops remained committed there in large numbers and political reconciliation had not been achieved.

"The purpose of the surge was to bring violence in Iraq down so that its leaders could come together politically," Biden (D., Del.) said in this week's Democratic radio address. "Violence has come down, but the Iraqis have not come together."

He later added, "There is little evidence the Iraqis will settle their differences peacefully any time soon."
As the piece notes, this is meant as a preliminary to the attacks on General Petraeus when he meets with our esteemed elected officials later in the week. A shot over the bow if you will.

But more than that, this is Biden making a play for the veep slot and no candidate will be considered unless he or she falls in line with the hard-left anti-war view. Biden doesn't even throw the word "Afghanistan" in, which is the tack the Dems will take this week. That says to me he's really going down the end all wars track of Obama, the likely nominee.

Quoth "Plagiarism Joe:"

"I believe the president has no strategy for success in Iraq," Biden said. "His plan is to muddle through, and hand the problem off to his successor."
It already is the problem of the successor. This is a battle in the greater War on Terror and theDemocrats don't want to admit that. When it's brought up, they put their hands to their ears and scream "la,la,la" hoping it will go away.

As is Biden's wont, he stole this line right out of the Obama playbook. Has anyone asked what Neil Kinnock thinks?
