Detroit Mayor in Perjury and Sex Scandal

Sphere: Related Content

On this tenth anniversary of Hillary labeling us the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy (a group I'm quite comfortably a part of) we have news of a scandal that evokes memories of those heady days when Bill Clinton knew the jig was up and his lying and obfuscation was revealed:

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his chief of staff lied about their relationship last summer at a police whistle-blower trial that has cost the cash-strapped city more than $9 million, according to records obtained by the Free Press.

The false testimony potentially exposes them to felony perjury charges, legal experts say.

Kilpatrick and chief of staff Christine Beatty denied during testimony in August that they had a sexual relationship. But the records, a series of text messages, show them engaged in romantic banter as well as planning and recounting sexual liaisons.

The messages are also at odds with the pair's trial testimony that they did not fire Deputy Police Chief Gary Brown in 2003, an ouster that led him to sue. The text messages show Beatty recalling the "decision that we made to fire Gary Brown."
Hmmm....infidelity, text sex (the new phone sex), lying under oath, it's more Clintonesque than anything we've seen in the last decade.

Get ready for the old, tired canard "it's just sex" or "they're prosecuting him for sex" when it's the same as when Clinton was impeached--he wasn't impeached for getting hummers from Monica, he was impeached because he lied under oath about getting hummers from Monica.

This time the story has a more high tech edge to it as the stained blue dress had been replaced with text messages. DNA is now pixels in other words.

Don't these people ever understand that it's always the cover-up. They think they're smarter than everyone else or have the power to control the evidence and it's just not that easy. Kudos to the Free Press for doggedly breaking a story that's important. This is a great example of why newspapers are still important. Juxtapose their editorial practices with those of Newsweek a decade ago when they spiked the Lewinsky story.

And where, exactly, have you covered the myriad Republican sex/corruption scandals? They appear almost daily, but you are silent on them.

Isn't it nice to have at least ONE Democratic scandal - with a bonus! You - again - get to bring up the name 'Clinton', even though there's no connection.

"Environmental Republican"??

Give me a break.

Hey puppy,

See the search area at the top left of the homepage, type in Larry Craig or any of the myriad other GOP scandals and I slammed every single one of them.

Typical lib, accuse without even taking a second to see what the facts are. I should check my Sitemeter to see if I got a hit from the NY Times building because you'd fit right in there.

Many people will try to compare this to the Lewinsky affair and say it is nobody's business - a private affair. This is not the Lewinsky affair. President Clinton was forced to testify against himself purely for lurid sensationalism. The witch hunt by the radical right was clearly evident for all to see. But President Clinton never told Monica to lie. Never allowed Monica to perjure herself on the witness stand. Never fired a cop. Never faced a $9 million lawsuit by the whistleblower whose life you ruined. It's apples and oranges...
