Rep. Obey Disses the Troops

You know we've hit the point that the Dems are terrified about our successes in Iraq. When first reports started trickling through that we were seeing improvements, it was scoffed at by the media and the donks. The media dutifully did not report our efforts and if they did, they added silly disclaimers as to the reason or spun it to lessen the good news. Once it was impossible to contain the facts that we are turning a corner and may just win this thing, there talk has gotten shrill like a conniver caught in a huge lie. They snap and get upset and scream that it's not true. In other words, they're delusional and know full-well that when the cards were down, they turned their backs on a military that needed them and now that that same military is making good on their promise, they find themselves out in the cold--one would hope ashamed at their behavior.

Our latest example is David Obey, the, hypocritical anti-warrior (although liberal hater?), House Appropriations Committee Chairman. It is not the plan orchestrated by General Petraeus nor is it the hard work and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform that has changed the tide of war, oh no, Rep. Obey has a different hypothesis:

If violence is decreasing in Iraq, it may be because insurgents “are running out of people to kill,” House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey (D-Wis.) said Monday.

Obey was responding to a question about reports touted by Republicans that security is improving in Iraq and that President Bush’s “surge” strategy is working. He stressed that military success has not led to political reconciliation.

“The issue has never been military,” Obey said. “The issue has always been political improvement.”

“There are fewer targets of opportunity,” Obey said in a speech to the National Press Club.
And there you have it; the military has accomplished nothing, there are just fewer Iraqi's that put themselves in a position to be killed.

Now this is spin of epic proportions--spin that would make "Comical Ali" sit back and applaud the pure chutzpah of it. How Obey reconciles the fact that it is purely because of military operations, planning and co-opting the various sheiks that has reduced the amount of "targets of opportunity" the esteemed Congressman didn't say.

This is a great insight into the anti-war lefts psyche and we'll be hearing less plausible explanations (update: here's a great example of the liberal buzz-kill) in the near future but to have a US Congressman--and leader at that--not credit our troops for a victory shows just how far they've gone over the abyss. This is akin to saying that Washington's 1776 victory over the Hessians in Trenton was not really a victory because the Hessians were hungover and we just lucked out by getting the jump on them.

Get ready folks, it's going to be blogging heaven with what we're going to be hearing from the loony left in coming months as the knowledge of just how successful we've been begins to be known. Every good report is going to be followed by a declaration like that of Obey.

The fact that anyone would disrespect our military in this manner is disheartening (but not unexpected), that it was a sitting US Congressman pisses me off and makes me feel shame for Obey although he seems to feel none for himself.

Update: Yes, the anti-warriors are terrified we're succeeding.
