The "Surge" Seems to Be Showing Dividends

The gloves are off and US and Iraqi forces are doing what should've been done a year ago:

About 600 fighters and 16 leaders of the radical Shia militia, the Mehdi Army, have been captured by security forces in Iraq, the US military says.

The statement said 52 operations had been conducted in 45 days targeting the militia, which is loyal to Najaf-based cleric Moqtada Sadr.

Events in the country are still bad as scores of people were killed in sectarian violence Monday.

Moqtada al-Sadr is fighting for vengeance only, yet after the recent crack-down will have no chioce but to seek a political solution. His followers are not infinite and the Iranian assistance will be shut down in the very near future. With al-Maliki forced to act against his Shiite brethren and not act as protector, we may indeed see progress.
