Teddy Kennedy appears to have had himself a little dalliance and now it's coming back to haunt him:
“Caroline announced to the family that she was two months pregnant around May 1984,” blabbed a Bilodeau confidante. “Ted was not happy about the news. He already had three kids with Joan and knew a baby out of wedlock could hurt him politically.”
According to the Enquirer, the scandal-scarred senator begged Bilodeau to have an abortion, but she refused.
“He told her he couldn’t undergo another scandal — not after Chappaquiddick, not so close to his divorce from Joan” said the source. “He was very angry when she defied him and had the child.”
At this point, this all hearsay, yet the fact that the Boston Herald is reporting it makes me believe that it's true. Ten bucks and a six pack of Bass Ale says that the NY Times-owned Boston Globe knew of this story long ago yet held it because they didn't want to cause political harm to the senior senator. Kennedy's spokeswoman called the story “irresponsible fiction.”
Anyway, let's suppose it's true, there's no way that I wouldn't let the world know that I had a child. Your child is your flesh and blood no matter what the circumstances. I hope this isn't true but suspect it is because Kennedy has shown nothing in his career or private life that would make me not believe it.
He's a disgrace to the Senate (and that's saying something) and the people of Massachusetts keep electing him.
