Reason #489,063 I Hope There's a Hell

A judge in the state where Howie Dean was once governor passed down an appalling sentence on a convicted child rapist:

There was outrage Wednesday when a Vermont judge handed out a 60-day jail sentence to a man who raped a little girl many, many times over a four-year span starting when she was seven.

The judge said he no longer believes in punishment and is more concerned about rehabilitation.

Prosecutors argued that confessed child-rapist Mark Hulett, 34, of Williston deserved at least eight years behind bars for repeatedly raping a littler girl countless times starting when she was seven.

But Judge Edward Cashman disagreed explaining that he no longer believes that punishment works.

"The one message I want to get through is that anger doesn't solve anything. It just corrodes your soul," said Judge Edward Cashman speaking to a packed Burlington courtroom. Most of the on-lookers were related to a young girl who was repeatedly raped by Mark Hulett who was in court to be sentenced.

Judge Cashman is an embarassment to the bench, although I doubt the liberals in Vermont will see it that way. More:

"I discovered it accomplishes nothing of value; it doesn't make anything better; it costs us a lot of money; we create a lot of expectation, and we feed on anger, "Cashman explained to the people in the court.

It accomplishes nothing of value? He's right because you can never put an adequate price on putting away a serial pedophile. What of the value of the next girl he rapes and the next...I presume in Cashman's eyes they also have no value. How about the next sentence "we create a lot of expectation"; I expect that a man who repeatedly raped a 7-year old girl will be dealt with in the harshest lawful measures and I further expect that while in jail he will receive counseling behind bars for ten years or more, not after release. I sure hope that a hell truly exists for this pedophile and he goes sooner rather than later.

Rulings like this despicable one by Judge Cashman make me no longer wonder why events such as that of Ellie Nessler occur.
