James Wolcott is Wrong (Again)

James Wolcott:

The death penalty must be abolished. No former movie action hero--or Yale cheerleader with enough psychological baggage to sink the African Queen--should be entrusted with the power of life and death over his fellow citizens. These are essentially frivolous, uninformed men playacting blue-suited roles of grave responsibility. And, no, I don't think Bill Clinton should have executed Ricky Ray Rector either. Capital punishment must be de-politicized, and as long as politicians make the final decision, depoliticization is impossible. So abolish it.

This is wrong on so many levels. First, the electorate entrusted Arnold with the decision of life and death for convicted murderers. That is called democracy, James. The voters knew that going in, the Governator didn't create this power since his election.

Second, Schwarzenegger did not hold Williams' life in his hands, Williams held his own life in his hands and he chose to die the second he pulled the trigger on his sawed-off shotgun and sprayed buckshot through an innocent womans head. He murdered four people, Jimmy. What of them?

I've heard over the last week that Williams was "reformed" and that he was doing good work keeping young people from joining gangs. I believe his execution last night will do more for keeping young people out of the Crips than the books that he had written.

Here's one for you James old buddy. Let's de-politicize abortion. Many people feel that horrific practice is execution in a much more despicable way.

Almost forgot: H/T Liberal Avenger
