San Francisco, that liberal bastion of free thought, seeks to regulate bloggers:
Just when you thought the Federal Election Commission had it out for the blogosphere, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors took it up a notch and announced yesterday that it will soon vote on a city ordinance that would require local bloggers to register with the city Ethics Commission and report all blog-related costs that exceed $1,000 in the aggregate.
Blogs that mention candidates for local office that receive more than 500 hits will be forced to pay a registration fee and will be subject to website traffic audits, according to Chad Jacobs, a San Francisco City Attorney.
This is a great lesson in why the liberal ideology is screwed up; libs are for big government and welcome government intrusion. They are for taxing anything and everything, including the free thought of people whom are using a technology that causes neither the local or state government any resources.

All attempts to regulate content on the internet are useless -- I wish people would just GET IT and try to utilize it rather than regulate it.
Regarding the "big government" comment -- while Dems certainly have been the ones for that in the past, I think it's fair to say that at this point it is really hard to tell which political party is for or against "big government".
At this point it looks like they are both for more government intrusion, the only difference is for whose benefit.
While it is useless to try to regulate content that doesn't mean these laws don't have a use.
They can easily be used to create a chilling effect by targeting those with 'undesirable opinions.'
It will be impossible to enforce this law generally, but selective targeting can be dangerously effective.
We should be very concerned about this sort of law.
