Neil Young, Me and My Brother

Sphere: Related Content

I promised this yesterday.

Back in the late 1970's when this humble blogger was roughly 11 or 12-years old, My Dad decided to take my older brother to an R-rated movie. The problem was he had to watch me and my little brother who was two years younger than I.

My Dad decided that he would send us to what ever other movie was playing and we'd meet up in the lobby after the show. The other movie happened to be Neil Young and Crazy Horse-Rust Never Sleeps. Easily the greatest concert movie ever released.

Well, my Dad and brother went into their movie and my little bro and I waited to get into see ours. This was 1979 and you can imagine the people waiting in line to see Neil Young; long-haired raggedy looking dudes who were definitely enjoying their Saturday night. I recall one guy handing me a Budweiser and asking me to sneak it in for him, and I did.

We eventually went into the theater and when the lights dimmed, the clouds of smoke went up. I didn't know what they were smoking at the time, but it sure made them happy.

The next day, we talked my Mom into buying the Live Rust album and we've been fans of Neil Young ever since. I still think of Neil as one of the most influential musicians of the second half of the 20th century.
