Gay Patriot found this hidden gem:

WASHINGTON, Jan 7 (Reuters) - The U.S. government ran a $1 billion budget surplus in December, helped by a rise in corporate tax payments, the Congressional Budget Office said in its latest budget report released on Friday. The surplus, which compared with an $18 billion deficit in the previous December, helped create a smaller fiscal deficit for the first three months of the 2005 fiscal year, than in the same quarter of the prior year.

Great news that most people just don't know because they get their news from the Today Show of other such media outlet. This reminded me of an exchange I heard today, excuse me for a second while I rant:

I was talking to a lady who is a cashier at a store today and she was talking with another employee about "how tough it is to get a good job out there". No, it's not. This is the reality; if you are newly graduated from college, don't come to me and ask for $50K to start. You may have a BS or a MBA but you don't have what I need...experience. If you are worth $50K a year, I'll figure that out quickly enough by observing your work habits, self motivation and interaction with clients and fellow employees. Perhaps you have been told by whatever fine institute of higher learning you attended that you should ask for this amount, but the truth is, you are not worth it...yet.

In the late '90's when the .com bubble was at it's fattest, you could pretty much command any dollar amount if you had the needed skills. That was a once in a lifetime opportunity that you missed and the folks who were fat, dumb and happy then are happy to be working now. The bubble burst and now things are moving at a more healthy, but not as robust and reckless clip. Blame Bush if you must, but it seems that the bubble started losing air when the Clinton administration sued Microsoft.

Update: Forget the rhetoric about the sorry shape of the economy. Read this and learn the facts. Every indicator is up with the exception of the Establishment Survey, but that is not taking into account the self employed.
