It Won't Match The First
Bono is attempting to organize Live Aid II to raise awareeness of relief of third worl debt. I kind of like the idea on its face, however, this event will become so politicized that the net effect will be to turn a large portion of the population off. It eill be supported by Moveon.org and other anti-war types and will be looney-left festival.
I know Bono is passionate about aiding Africa, too bad it will end badly.
Perhaps Bob Geldof understands this:
LONDON (Reuters) - Irish rock star Bob Geldof denied on Monday that he had teamed up with fellow rocker Bono for a repeat of the 1985 Live Aid concerts to raise money to help ease third world debt.
The Sun newspaper had earlier run a front page story saying Prime Minister Tony Blair was backing "Live Aid II," which would be fronted by British rockers Robbie Williams, Oasis, Radiohead and Coldplay.
Geldof, the brains behind the original concert to relieve famine in Ethiopia, said in a statement: "I told the Sun this afternoon it was not true. This only serves to undermine the concerted efforts of those concerned with the tragedy of poverty in Africa."
"However, if the Prime Minister wants to organize a Live Aid II, then good luck to him," Geldof added.
The 1985 event raised 60 million pounds ($110.2 million) with simultaneous concerts in Britain and the United States.
I was at the JFK Stadium Live Aid show. It had some political elements to it, but not overly so. Let's keep an eye on this.
