I like Donna Brazile. I think she ran a horrible campaign for Gore in 2000, but recent events suggest that she really didn't have much to work with. She seems to be a straight-shooter. Her new book apparently shows she can whack the donkeys as well as the pachyderms:
"I know I'm not on message," Ms. Brazile, 44, said in her Washington office, filled with books and Bibles and photographs of her expansive political life. "Everyone is, like: `Shhhhh. Don't criticize. We have to beat Bush. It's anyone but Bush.' Hey, I'm part of that. But I'm not helping Bush. I'm helping to inspire a new generation of activists."
..."How do you go back to being a normal, functioning human being after something like the 2000 election?" she said. "I thought I'd died politically. No one wanted Gore people around. I thought, `Why have I given my entire life to this?' and was bitter, bitter, bitter. When I was being kicked to the curb, you know who it was who called me? It was Karl Rove. He'd say, `Donna, you doing O.K.?' "
