The Council for Islamic Relations practices a little religious bigotry:
(CBN News) - Anti-Muslim hate crimes are on the rise, according to a prominent Muslim civil rights group. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) released a new report Monday to document discrimination against Muslims.
CAIR released its Muslim hate crimes report at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. But when CBN News arrived at the press conference, CAIR officials blocked the door.
CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper said, "It's a private event, and we choose who we allow into the meeting."
We asked Hooper why CAIR excluded our crew from a publicized event.
Hooper responded, "CBN has a very biased attitude towards the Muslim community in America, Islam in general, has made a number of defamatory attacks on Muslims and Islam, and we don't feel it's appropriate to have them in a Muslim news conference."
As the nation's largest Islamic civil rights group, CAIR condemns discrimination against Muslims.
Read this:
It was Asmaa Metwally’s first day of college at Florida Atlantic University.
Like many other new students, she did not know her way around campus. Metwally approached a woman to ask directions, but was answered with silence. The woman was staring at her headscarf.
Metwally asked again, and remembers the woman hurrying away in the opposite direction.
“I saw fear in her eyes,” she said.
A senior and the secretary of the Muslim Student Organization (MSO), Metwally said she has felt the cold stares of classmates who mistakenly assume that she is part of some terrorist organization.
When the officers of the MSO put signs up for events, they’re almost always taken down by the end of the day, Metwally said.
“People generalize and stereotype,” she said. “It’s definitely a disappointment.”
There were 1019 “disappointing” incidents involving anti-Muslim violence, discrimination and harassment in 2003, the highest number of Muslim civil rights cases ever recorded in a single year, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) reported Monday.
Vice President Faisal Rehman and secretary Asmaa Metwally met with several members of the Muslim Student Organization to discuss the surge in incidents of discrimination and plan campus events.
The report indicates that anti-Muslim incidents in the United States increased by almost 70 percent in 2003. Hate crimes alone jumped by an unprecedented 121 percent, according to the report.
121% is a large increase, I suspect the cases must be in the tens or hundreds of thousands. Here are the numbers:
The group said it received 1,019 complaints from Muslims last year concerning discriminatory or violent actions, up from 602 the year before. The biggest number of incidents had to do with employment and the refusal to accommodate religious practices. But there were 93 reported hate crimes, more than double the total in 2002. And there were numerous cases in which Muslims alleged that laws were applied to them more harshly because of their ethnic or religious identity.
93 reported hate crimes. Of those 93, how many were normal muggings or random acts of criminality where the attacker didn't care if the person was a Jew, Christian, Bahai, or Sikh. They were an easy target for crime. Let's go with that number though. 93 acts of violence or other crimes because the person was Muslim. That is an incredibly small number, less than one hundred. Granted, every act of violence against someone because of their color or faith is one too many, but I thought the number would be much higher. As you notice from the report above, they don't even use the number 93 because most people would think it is incredibly low.
Update: How many non-Muslims were killed in the Mideast because they were non-Muslim? How many in Saudi Arabia alone?
