Israel is dismantling two settlements to try to kickstart the peace process:
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon on Sunday issued an order to dismantle two West Bank settlement outposts -- one of them populated -- in an initial step toward fulfilling Israel's commitment under the "road map" peace plan.
Under the U.S.-backed plan, Israel must dismantle scores of the unauthorized outposts, but Sharon, a longtime settler ally, has been slow to comply. The government last week ordered the removal of four outposts. Settlers appealed the orders, and none have been removed.
Security sources said Sunday that the army has developed a plan to dismantle six outposts targeted by the government.
The sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said 3,500 soldiers and police officers will participate in the evacuation. Soldiers will guard the perimeter, while the police will take down the structures. The sources said they were waiting for a Supreme Court decision, expected in the next few days, to move forward.
The Palestinians should be disarming and stopping their murderous ways in response. Don't hold you breath.
