There's been alot of talk about the Bush adminstrations handling of Superfund sites. The general argument is that fewer sites have been added since he took office. Anyone with knowledge of the environmental remediation business realizes that this is mostly because the highly contaminated sites have already been addressed and put on the NPL.

Another reason is that it has become easier to identify the responsible parties, and therefore have them pay for clean-up. I work for a major environmental company that remediates sites from Maine to Maryland, of the enormous amount of work we currently are performing, 10% is at either federal or state listed Superfund sites. The other work is for corporations who inherited contaminated sites, or spill clean-up sites.
