The EPA is looking to eliminate haze in our national parks:

The Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday approved the first regional plan to reduce polluting haze in national parks and wilderness areas in the western United States.
THE PROGRAM, which still must be adopted by the affected states, would protect scenic vistas in areas such as the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park by setting a declining cap on haze-forming air pollution from power plants and industrial sources.
The pollution cap is based on lowering emissions of sulfur dioxide — the leading contributor to haze — from western power plants by 85 percent. The cap comes at a time when new power plants, producing thousands of megawatts of electricity, are coming on line across the West.
The new proposal is the first regional plan finalized under 1999 federal rules to curb the haze in national parks and wilderness areas due to air pollution that crosses state boundaries and spreads over broad geographic regions.

Even Environmental Defense is backing the action. I have yet to see this in the NY Times.
