A Humanitarian Invasion of Myanmar? Please, Spare Me

Sphere: Related Content

There's been a steady drumbeat from the left about invading Myanmar or Burma if you prefer. It's humorous to an extent because liberals want to help those who need it but aren't willing to pay the price as made very clear by the their hand-wringing over Iraq.

Suppose we act as they suggest and unilaterally "invade" in support of humanitarian efforts. What will they say when the Burmese army kills the first American soldier (start a website tracking the death count is my guess)? What about a roadside bomb a month from now when al-Qaeda realizes they have a new front? The short answer is that the libs will have a new military adventure to label "Bush's folly."

We saved untold tens of thousands from the grip of Saddam's thugs, they haven't stopped bitching about it yet. I envision a Michael Moore film showing that life in Myanmar (Burma) was so much nicer and freer before the evil US military invaded.

Sorry libs, been there (literally with the Navy), done that in Somalia. Let the UN handle it (using our tax dollars of course) and they can face the music. We can supply air assets and food, nothing else.

More here.

Update: Another oppressive regime in Asia is failing in relief efforts, shall we invade China as well?

I don't think the Libs would really have a problem with the deaths related to invading Burma- as long as it happened under a Dem.

The Libs wouldn't have a problem with Iraq if it hadn't happend under Bush.
They had no problem supporting the Kosovo war- which had even less of an American impact than the Iraq terror support network.
