Scott Rolen is A Jerk Off

Sphere: Related Content

Thirdbaseman Scott Rolen left the Phillies in 2002 because he didn't get along with manager Larry Bowa and other reasons.

The Phillies fans to this day still remember the way Rolen treated not only the organization but the fans as well. It's not often that the Philly sports fans take to an athlete the way they did to Rolen. In the last decade I can say that Aaron Rowand, Jimmy Rollins, Allen Iverson, Brian Westbrook Brian Dawkins and Ryan Howard are perhaps the only players we've adored like Rolen. He took that and gave us the finger for no other reason than he was not happy with management. Now he's one of the few players people will actually go out of their way (and out of town) to boo. The hate generated by Phillies fans is reserved for only a storied few: Barry Bonds, J.D. Drew and Billy Wagner being the current most hated.

When Rolen left, he gave all the usual platitudes about Phillie management's commitment to winning, he wanted to play for a winner, blah, blah, blah...So Rolen went to Saint Louis and did indeed win a championship and it still wasn't enough for the lumbering infielder who can't hit lefties and can't play an entire season (by comparison; MVP Jimmy Rollins played in every game last season and hasn't missed more than 8 games in any season at a much-more demanding position and led off).

Rolen, now with the Blue Jays because he had troubles with Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa, says he would've taken a trade back to Philly last year. Well guess what scrub, we don't want you. We have a platoon situation at third, our biggest question in the lineup that is currently filled by the clay-footed Wes Helms and others and we still wouldn't take you. Take your whining, fragile, .253-hitting ass up to the Great White North and have a good time getting your ass kicked by the Red Sox and Yanks every three or four weeks. Whine away, Scotty boy, the only time we want to see you is when J.C. Romero is coming in high and tight at your melon and you hitting into a double play in the top of the ninth to end the game.

I love reading this 3 years later. Especially the part about your MVP Jimmy Rollins playing every game one year. That worked out well for him. How many games has played since then, considerably less. Scott Rolen is a couple good years from becoming a Hall of Famer. Why wouldn't you want someone like that on your team? That's just dumb.
