The Biggest Loser This Campaign Season: Bill Clinton

Sphere: Related Content

Bill Clinton has always been thought of reverently by the Democratic party. He was the man who stuck it in the eye of us nasty, evil Conservatives. His persuasive mien and wonkish grasp of events showed just how mush smarter he was than anyone else in the room. Well, so much for that:

WASHINGTON — Bill Clinton's been spending a lot of time in small-town Ohio. He's heading to Rhode Island on Thursday. From there, he may head back to some of the lesser-known dots on Ohio's map, probably Marion or Mansfield.

Is this any way for a campaign to use a former president of the United States?

Sure, because it's a way to keep him out of the media spotlight and still be useful to his wife's White House bid.

"The Clinton campaign is sending Bill to safe places, to small cities where a visit by a former president is a really big deal," said Darrell West, a professor of political science at Brown University in Providence, R.I.
"Slick Willy" has been anything but an asset to the Hillary campaign. He's done nothing but launch scuds and torpedoes that have hobbled any pathetic attempts they've made to resurrect what was once a can't-lose road to the Oval Office.

Bill Clinton knows one way to play politics--us vs. them. The problem now is that Obama is not playing by the same rules and the Clinton's are like an ocean liner, they couldn't maneuver and face this new kind of politics. They geared up for a campaign pitting them versus the "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" and instead were faced with a liberal insurgency by a minority candidate. Bill of all people adjusted poorly.

The Clintons are over and the new paradigm is one of Obama and McCain. Hillary can assume her role as the junior senator from New York and pray McCain wins so she has a shot in 2012. We'll miss her for blogging value alone. Bill Clinton wasn't as smart as everyone thought, he was not the greatest politician we've ever seen, he was no Karl Rove even.
