Iranians Getting Froggy Again

Sphere: Related Content

The Iranians are feeling their oats again and reviving a tactic they used back when I transited the Straits of Hormuz in the summer of 1992:

The incident occurred at about 5 a.m. local time Sunday as a U.S. Navy cruiser, destroyer and frigate were on their way into the Persian Gulf and passing through the strait — a major oil shipping route.

Five small boats began charging the U.S. ships, dropping boxes in the water in front of the ships and forcing the U.S. ships to take evasive maneuvers, the Pentagon official said.

There were no injuries but the official said there could have been, because the Iranian boats turned away “literally at the very moment that U.S. forces were preparing to open fire” in self defense.
Again, this is nothing new as the Iranians want nothing more than complete control of the strategic strait and we are keeping them from that goal. They're looking to provoke us as they now know that thanks to the anti-military efforts of the political left in this country, we will not be as apt to act if struck. They saw our tepid response to the USS Cole bombing and know that while they can harass now, in a years time they may be dealing with a Democrat in the Oval Office and they can not just harass but attack and control the majority of the worlds oil supply that passes through the straits.

Iran is a force that we have to dealt with eventually and the candidates on the Dem side have not said word one about the issue. Their collective short-sightedness with be to our long-term detriment and the mad mullahs are just biding their time to make their move.

A Ma duece would have busted the boxes - and given a hint of reality. However, I think our lack of response will bode ill for us in a USS Cole way in the future.

What kind of response should there have been? Blowing them away would have started a war... which Iran is technically already in with us but war with them is the last thing we need right now.

That stunt the other day was almost laughable. I think Iran is too chicken shit to actually attack us. They'd better watch out, though, 'cause a few meters closer and they wouldn't be reporting back to Ahmadinejerk how they made the infidels run away from the mighty Republican Guard. They might be too chicken shit to attack us... but we're not too chicken shit to defend ourselves and if they got closer, they'd know that very well.
