Friday Night Music--Teen Angst Edition

Sphere: Related Content

Being a teenager ruled, no responsibility and loud music. Pretty cool.

Here's a FNM edition with the bands that rocked my teen years starting with Triumph whose lyrics when I was young were gospel, They were a poor man's Rush but Rik Emmitt rocked despite his questionable choice in clothes:

Next we have Queen and Freddie Mercury with David Bowie, two unusual dudes to say the least. I recall one time I was listening to my Walk Man (any Gen X-ers are saying what the hell is a Walk Man? It's an I-Pod for your parents when they were teens you little friggin' snots, OK?) and I was listening to this song, my Dad came down and thought I was either high or having a seizure because I was singing out loud. It's understandable I guess.

Elvis Costello singing the great Allison. I hated Elvis Costello when I saw my first concert in 1982 when I was twelve--almost thirteen so it fits into the meme. It was Genesis, Elvis, Blondie, A Flock of Seagulls (I know) and Robert Hazard and the Heroes--a local Philly band that almost made it. I grew to respect Costello and his song writing. Video quality is horrible but what the hell:

Finally, a band I banged my head to through my teen years--AC DC. I never saw Bon Scott but he was unbelievable to say the least. Everyone owned Back In Black and knew what shook me all night long meant even if Mom didn't. Here's a great example of what a great band they were with Bon singing a song about, well, big balls.

This song was a song you actually couldn't hide from dear old Mom. It was the first song that you heard and snickered as a teen of that era. Of course with the blatant sex in every song now it's lost a bit of the shock value:

Update: I found Robert Hazard whose daughter I hung out with as a teen. He was the next big thing in Philly who wasn't unfortunately. He made a few bucks for sure. I lived right down the street from the theater this was filmed at:
