More Celebrity Environmental Hypocrisy

Bette Midler is the founder of the New York Restoration project, which is dedicated to helping clean up New York City in ecological ways. In fact, the "Divine Miss M." had this to say on her site:

Is there anything that makes a New Yorker happier than spring? Those first cheery daffodils, the tulips and new grass, and when the trees burst into flower before leafing out. It's a glorious spectacle of health and vibrancy in our parks and other open spaces, and it's the most wonderful time of year to be in New York.
Well, thanks to Bette, 230 trees won't "burst into flower before leafing out" this year:

LIHUE, Hawaii - Bette Midler cut down more than 230 trees around one of her properties on the island of Kauai without a permit, and the state has recommended she be fined.

The staff of the Board of Land and Natural Resources recommended $6,500 in fines for having the trees felled and for building a graded road without permits required for the land zoned for conservation use.
She was clearing the area of non-native species you see? How environmental of her.

I guess the person who removed all the trees didn't know she needed a permit as well.
