Now This is Spin

David Dickerson is a Democratic US Senate candidate from Maryland who has serious issues:

TOWSON, Md. -- Baltimore County police arrested a candidate for the U.S. Senate and charged him with rape and assault on his Latvian wife.

David Dickerson, a Democratic candidate for one of the two Maryland Senate seats, was arrested Saturday after police were called to a hospital where his wife claimed she was raped. Dickerson was charged with second-degree rape, second-degree assault and fourth-degree sex offense.

According to charging documents, the victim said she and her husband met in her home country of Latvia and married last year when she was 18. She told police that shortly after moving back to the United States, she was deprived of food and physically abused -- even after becoming pregnant.

It seems that the police were called after she was at the hospital, which indicates to me that there was medical evidence that something had taken place. I'm a strong believer in the innocent until proven guilty mindset, but this ain't looking good for candidate Dickerson. How does his campaign play it:

Craig Kadish, Dickerson's attorney, responded to the charges on Monday.

"The charges are completely fabricated, completely false and ludicrous. There is no violence between these two," Kadish said. "The wife has disappeared. She may be in New York. She has a history of mental breakdowns. She wants to stay in the country."

Textbook...she's a liar, he's never hit her, she disappears often for no reason and she's mentally unbalanced. That's what womens organizations always say the perpetrators of violence against women say.

Let's see if this is on the front page of NOW's website...er, no it isn't. What about their Violence Against Women page...no, just a story about those Duke kids suspected of raping the stripper. I'm a bit perplexed by this as it seems that this woman is claiming that he has abused her for some time.

Now what if this had been a Republican...

Update: Here's what happens when it's a Republican. Apparently beating ones wife is a bi-partisan phenomenon.

Losers.
