Terrorism and Alleged Rape--A Juxtaposition

Mary Katherine Ham looks at the way the UNC terrorism case and the Duke rape case were handled. She's not happy:

He told the press and the judge and anyone who would listen that he was seeking vengeance for the deaths of Muslims at the hands of bigoted Westerners in a post-9/11 world. He told everyone that he had intended to kill, had premeditated the killing. He even told the 911 dispatcher, just minutes after he had used a group of UNC co-eds as jack stands.

He was immediately arrested and charged with nine counts of attempted first-degree murder and nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.

A couple weeks later, just eight miles down the road in the city of Durham, three Duke lacrosse players were accused of brutally assaulting and raping an exotic dancer at a party on March 13.

There were not dozens of witnesses to the crime; there was not an overabundance of physical evidence; the boys did not confess and turn themselves in; they did not announce to 911 dispatchers that the rape was premeditated and that they felt like their "white privilege" entitled them to certain liberties with those of other races and socio-economic classes.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Taheri-azar is still not labeled a terrorist and three Duke lacrosse players are labeled rapists even though Taheri-azar admitted his crime and the lacrosse players look to be innocent:

DURHAM -- Sources close to the defense team in the Duke lacrosse rape case again tried to cast doubt on the accuser's credibility Tuesday, saying evidence collected so far points to problems with her story.

For example, three defense sources, who asked not to be identified, said a forensic examination of the alleged victim found no tearing, bleeding or other injury associated with a sexual assault. Instead, the exam detected only swelling in the accuser's vagina and tenderness in her breasts and lower right body, the sources said.

...Citing nearly 1,300 pages of documents given them last week by the prosecution, the defense sources also said Tuesday that the woman told police she had sex with three men around the time of the alleged rape, which she said occurred at a Duke lacrosse team party at which she had been hired as an exotic dancer. The men were identified as her boyfriend and two drivers for the escort service for which she worked.

Emphasis mine. I know that if a woman dresses sleazily or acts flirtatious, she is not "asking for it". By the same token, she had sex with three men around the time of the rape. Three men.

While this doesn't mean that she wasn't raped, it does make me wonder about her character and people with bad character tend to be liars.
