Free Speech and Sex

Sphere: Related Content

That title ought to get some Google hits. Anyway, Jessica Cutler--immortalized by pro-blogger Ana Marie Cox--known as the Washingtonienne decided to post intimate details of a tryst with an aide to Senator Mike DeWine (R-Ohio).

The man who got busy with the skanky Cutler filed suit against her even though she only used his initials. CNN has more:

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A judge on Wednesday allowed a lawsuit to proceed against Jessica Cutler, the former Senate aide who posted details of her sex life on the Internet.

The case brought by Sen. Mike DeWine's former counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Robert Steinbuch, alleges that Cutler engaged in an invasion of his privacy in 2004 by publishing sexually explicit facts about a relationship with Steinbuch.

Yes Steinbuch fooled around with Cutler and no, he has no case here since she did not identify him. Even if she did, the sex was consensual and she had the right to post it, period.

Cutler got a book deal out of this and it was definitely wrong for her to publicize this as she and the aforementioned (sister skank) Cox did, but the Internet is part of our world now and to allow this case to proceed to me seems ludicrous.

If I was banging a co-worker and she wanted to post it, I'd be pissed. Still, the Constitution does not allow for embarrassment nor scorn. The Internet as a whole and blogs in particular are the frontiers of free speech and I have to abide by that no matter the tawdriness of the case.

And yes, she's a friggin' skank. Anyone who chooses to post details of their sex life on the web is a skank in my book.
