Port Fiasco Over

Dubai says it will transfer port operations to a US firm. Again I'll reiterate, I was not wholly against the port plan as a business deal. It was a smart agreement for P & O.

"Because of the strong relationship between the United Arab Emirates and the United States and to preserve that relationship ... DP World will transfer fully the U.S. operations of P&O Operations North America to a United States entity," Edward H. Bilkey, DP World's chief operating officer, said in a statement.

The announcement did not specify which American company would be involved.

The UAE firm's purchase of P&O, the British company that manages cargo and passenger terminals at ports on the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, has stirred up bipartisan opposition.

I did have major reservations because of the political ramifications and the way the deal played into the hands of the Democrats. The Donks haven't given a damn about security and in fact have actively fought against it. With this deal they all of a sudden claimed the mantle as homeland security zealots.

I respect the UAE for allowing Bush to exit this without having to face down congress.
